Cytoplasmic continuity between embryonic cells and the primitive yolk sac during early gastrulation in Drosophila melanogaster

A morphological study of the embryo of Drosophila has revealed that cytoplasmic connections persist between the embryonic cells and the primitive yolk sac during early gastrulation. A band of microfilaments is present adjacent to the plasma membrane in the connections and in the yolk sac area between the connections. Possible roles these structures may play are discussed.
