Abstract: | The relationships between withdrawal of myoblasts from the cell cycle, myosin synthesis, and myoblast fusion have been examined in cultures of skeletal muscle derived from the regenerating tail of the lizard Anolis carolinensis. Utilizing both immunocytochemistry and transmission electron microscopy, we have demonstrated the presence of myosin in mononucleated lizard myoblasts which have entered a prefusion G0 period. A model is presented summarizing our current view of lizard myogenesis in vitro. |
