Abstract: | Upon exposure to atmospheric oxygen photosynthesizing cellsof Chromatium synthesize glycolic acid and excrete it extracellularly.Under anaerobic conditions, glycolic acid is not detectableas a photoassimilation product. We found that the lower thelevel of NaHCO3 in the culture medium the greater the amountof glycolic acid produced oxidatively by the bacterial cells. 1Structure and Function of Chloroplast Proteins, Part XXV.
