Abstract:The blue colour of the petals of the blue marguerite daisy, Felicia amelloides, has been found to arise from copigmentation between a novel malonylated delphinidin triglycoside, delphinidin 3-O-neohesperidoside 7-O- (6-O-malonyl-glucoside), and a new flavone C-glycoside, swertisin 2″-O-rhamnoside-4′-O-glucoside. Recombination, in vitro, of these two petal components at pH 6 recreates the blue petal colour.
