Abstract: | As infants, bats emit non-sonar calls that are species typical.Five different species of Hipposideros have contrasting neonatalcalls. The calling rates increase and then wane with age inthe same general pattern as seen in rodents. Infant bat callsshow greater frequency sweep and higher repetition rates thanthose of rodents. In contrast to microchiropterans, infantsof a megachiropteran, Eonycteris, emit calls with a lower repetitionrate; the calls show no increase in frequency with age. |
