Feces therapy and Fecal Microecology

Abstract: In the long history of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), feces as a kind of Chinese traditional drugs had been continuously studied, and a large number of experiences had been accumulated especially in the past hundreds of years, which constituted a part of the extremely precious wealth of TCM. Application of feces therapy used to be one of the characteristics of TCM in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Numerous extensive information on clinical treatment, expecially fecal transplantation, also provided a large number of evidences and insights for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Researches on fecal transplantation nowadays espanded the concept of feces therapy, revealed its mechanism of efficacy and laid a foundation for the research and development of new drugs. The development of modern microecology has brought new opportunities and prospects for the study of TCM.
