Abstract: | Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a peptide-derived redox cofactor produced by prokaryotes that also plays beneficial roles in organisms from other kingdoms. We review recent developments on the pathway of PQQ biogenesis, focusing on the mechanisms of PqqE, PqqF/G, and PqqB. These advances may shed light on other, uncharacterized biosynthetic pathways. |
