Effects of tidal manipulation, resulting in prolonged periods of emersion and submersion or in protracted tidal cycles, on estuarine benthic animals are reviewed.Prolonged submersion periods did not show effects on mortality of most benthic animals tested, with the exception of the crumb-of-bread sponge Halichondrea panicea, which, at low water-flow rates, was covered with a layer of bacteria and subsequently died.Protracted low-water periods of 18 hours during several weeks hardly caused any mortality. However, protracted low-water periods of 30 hours during some weeks or emersion during several days caused a strong increase in mortality, depending on: the duration of emersion, temperature, condition of the animals, species and age. At temperatures below –1 °C and above 24 °C mortality was generally high. Animals with a low glycogen content were more sensitive to emersion than those with a high content. Species with a shell and those that are relatively big were less sensitive than those without a shell or of small size.The reproductive cycle of benthic animals could be delayed or accelerated by both emersion and submersion.  相似文献

经济海洋褐藻羊栖菜(Hizikia fusiforme(Harv.)Okamura)低潮时常常周期性地暴露于空气中。为了认识这种海藻在潮汐循环背景下的光合特征,对其在高潮沉水和低潮干出不同条件下的光合作用碳素获得机制进行了比较。沉水时,羊栖菜主要利用海水中HCO_3~-作为外源无机碳源驱动光合作用;而在干出条件下,其光合作用的主要碳源为空气中的CO_2。在这两种不同环境条件下,光合作用与pH值的关系不同:沉水状态时,羊栖菜在高pH值(10.0)下光合活性很弱;而在干出条件下,羊栖菜在高pH值时仍有较高的光合活性。然而,光合作用无论是在沉水还是在干出条件下,对外源碳源的获得都表现出对胞外碳酸酐酶(CA)强烈的依赖性,并且其光合速率都受周围环境中无机碳源水平的限制。此外,在沉水和干出两种环境条件下,羊栖菜光合作用都表现出对氧气的敏感性。这表明,在羊栖菜中,依赖胞外CA的碳源获得机制不能使细胞内CO_2浓度提高到阻碍其光呼吸的程度。增加空气中或海水中无机碳的浓度,能促进羊栖菜的光合作用,进而增加这种海藻的水产养殖产量。  相似文献

长江三峡淹没区与移民安置区植物多样性及其保护策略   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
随着三峡大坝的修建,三峡地区淹没区和移民安置区的植物多样性调查与保护工作相继展开。从多年考察采集到的标本及历史资料补充确定,两区高等植物为170科,762属,1784种。分别占到三峡地区高等植物科、属、种数的85.85%,75.30%和59.19%。其中特有植物27种。而三峡地区的灌木和草丛群落基本分布在沿江两岸的低海拔地区,受水库蓄水影响较大。对两区内21个马尾松(Pinus massoniana)群落物种多样性进行的Shannon-Wiener指数及Pielou均匀度指数的测定结果表明,马尾松群落的多样性变化总体趋势为:灌木层>草本层>乔木层;对该地区具有代表性的11种灌丛类型进行的物种多样性指数的测定结果表明:盐肤木(Rhus chinensis)、毛黄栌(Cotinus coggygriavar.pubescens)、荆条(Vitex negundo)、马桑(Coriaria sinic)等4种群落的灌木层丰富度较高,分别为16,26,20和15。多样性指数分别为1.791,3.427,2.949和1.718;对沿江分布的9种主要草丛群落进行的物种多样性指数的测定结果表明:芒萁(Dicranopteris dichotoma)、五节芒(Miscanthus floridutus)、白茅(Imperatacylindricavar.major)、荩草(Arthraxon hispidus)等4种海拔分布较高的群落物种多样性指数较高,分别达到1.697,1.354,1.144和1.018。另外,对淹没区及移民安置区的物种调查结果显示:受淹的自然植被类型共有22种。其中木本群落4种,灌丛9种,草丛9种。小鞍叶羊蹄甲(Bauhinia brachycarpavar.microphylla)、中华蚊母树(Distylium chinensis)、水杨梅(Geum aleppicum)、小叶黄杨(Buxus sinica var.parvifolia)、铁仔(Myrsine africana)、疏花水柏枝(Myricaria laxiflora)等灌丛被全部淹没;巫溪叶底珠(Securinega wuxiensis)、宜昌黄杨(Buxus ichangensis)和荷叶铁线蕨(Adiantum reniformevar.sinense)大部分被淹没。目前,已建立了库区植物物种保护站及监测站,200多种植物已得到迁地保护,包括已列入中国植物红皮书的37种珍濒物种和11种三峡库区建群种。  相似文献

Some small diving beetles can survive submerged through weeks and months, because they can extract oxygen, dissolved in the water, through respiratory pores in their integument. An air flux from the outside to the inside through the respiratory pores has been demonstrated. All diving beetles capable of such pore respiration are small, but not all small diving beetles have pore respiration. With increasing size, more and more of the surface must be covered by respiratory pores to meet the increasing demand of oxygen. In running water species the pore-respiration mode is regarded as an adaptation to life in current exposed substrates, thus they avoid the risk of being swept away during frequent surface visits. In stagnant water species the pore respiration mode reduces the risk of falling victim to pelagic predators. The submersion tolerant species can switch to surface respiration, e.g. during low oxygen content. The pore respiratory mechanism is believed to be a specialised plastron. The oxygen flux through the scattered, small respiratory pore area may be enhanced by a functional thinning of the boundary layer.  相似文献

The effects of climate change on coastal risk factors are increasing due to both rising sea levels and increasingly intense coastal floodings. However, these changes are only just beginning to be incorporated into planning strategies for coastal economies and land use in France. Recent coastal storms marked the turning point, and public authorities have now started to revise coastal management legislation, stating that the managed retreat of settlements and infrastructure is the preferred strategy to adapt to climate change. To date, this managed retreat has almost exclusively been discussed in relation to the current political, social, and economic obstacles that make it difficult to relocate equipment and houses inland. Here, we add to this discussion by depicting how the careful ecological restoration of dunes and salt marshes on land made available by managed retreat could overcome some of these obstacles. First, we describe three possible strategies to adapt to sea‐level rise as well as the maladaptation of the current strategy. Then, we focus on the limitations and advantages of ecological restoration in terms of managed retreat and vice versa. Finally, we depict how a new kind of land lease, introduced in draft legislation, can help tackle the multitemporal and multispatial issues that currently hinder managed retreat.  相似文献

The survival and oxygen uptake of the supralittoral amphipod Chroestia lota Marsden & Fenwick were investigated in humid air and sea water between 15 and 35°C. Seven-day exposure experiments were made on three size groups of amphipods at 6 constant temperatures (15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 °C) and three cyclic temperatures (15–25, 20–30, 25–35°C) in air and in sea water at 34 and 17%. salinity. Neither size, treatment nor temperature affected survival between 15 and 30°C. Mortality increased > 30°C with large individuals being consistently less tolerant than medium and small amphipods. While amphipods exposed to cyclic temperatures during submersion had reduced survival compared with constant temperatures, those individuals exposed to cyclic conditions in humid air showed the greatest resistance. Oxygen uptake of Chroestia increased with dry body wt and, over the range 15–35°C, this semi-terrestrial beach flea could maintain its aerial VO2 following submersion. Oxygen uptake increased directly in proportion to gill area and the weight specific gill area was low, consistent with the need to reduce desiccation. It is suggested that total gill area does not limit oxygen uptake in Chroestia and that cutaneous respiration may be important especially in aquatic conditions.  相似文献

Arthropods inhabiting floodplains have to cope with regular cycles of wet and dry conditions. Allocosa senex and Allocosa marindia are two sympatric and synchronic sand-dwelling wolf spiders that construct burrows along South American coasts and are subject to periodic floods. Our objective was to study tolerance to immersion and describe the behavioral responses to that event in Asenex and Amarindia. We placed each spider in a terrarium with sand as substrate to allow burrow construction. Then, we gradually increased water levels and recorded the behavioral responses for 30 min. None of the individuals died during the artificial flood. More adults of A. senex performed “dives” and “floats” compared to Amarindia. Also, Asenex showed higher occurrences of “floats,” “swims,” and swam for longer than Amarindia. Finally, females of both species swam more frequently than males. Our findings indicate that both Allocosa are able to withstand floods, showing differential tactics according to the life histories of each sex and species.  相似文献
