Comparisons of replacement to silent divergence have been used in a variety of studies aimed at detecting selection. Here, such comparisons are shown to be very sensitive to the pattern of rate variation in replacement sites. Saturation may play an important role even at surprisingly low levels of divergence if the substitution rate varies across replacement sites. For example, saturation in replacement sites may be of importance in the evolution of the HIV-1 envelope gene. However, the pattern of saturation in replacement and silent sites may, in itself, provide valuable insight into the causes of DNA evolution. 210 DNA sequences from 15 different loci/systematic groups are analyzed, and evidence for positive selection is demonstrated in at least one of these data sets, through an analysis of the distribution of substitution rates along the sequence.  相似文献

A mathematical model for interaction of algae with light is presented. This model consists of a couple of nonlinear integro-differential equations dealing with the evolution of algae concentration due to absorption of light and the evolution of light intensity due to absorption and scattering by algae and water. The model is formulated as a nonlinear abstract Cauchy problem in a Banach space suited to describe the physical features of the problem. By using techniques and results of semigroups theory, it is proved that the system has a unique global strict solution.Work performed under the auspices of G.N.F.M. In this study, a novel three-compartmented electrochemical bioreactor (3-CEB) was designed in an effort to overcome the disadvantages of the two-compartmented electrochemical bioreactor (2-CEB) separated with a cation-selective membrane for enrichment of strict anaerobes. The 3-CEB was comprised of an anode, outlet, and a cathode compartment. The outlet compartment was positioned between the anode and cathode compartment, and it was separated with the anode side by a rubber plate and with the cathode side by a porous glass membrane. A platinum wire bridging the anode and outlet compartment operated as a redox passage, however, through which no material could permeate. Butyrate fermentation bacteria were enriched on the basis of the metabolite production. Butyrate generated by strict anaerobes was significantly more abundant in the 3-CEB than in the 2-CEB. Acetic acid and lactic acid generated by facultative anaerobes was relatively higher in the 2-CEB than in the 3-CEB. Meanwhile, butyrate was not generated in the bioreactor utilized for the control test, to which the electrochemical potential was not charged. In a continuous culture using the 3-CEB, the majority of the glucose was fermented to butyrate, and the acetate additionally supplied to the bacterial culture was metabolically reduced to butyrate. More lactate than butyrate was generated from glucose in the 2-CEB.  相似文献

国家公园是我国自然保护地最重要的类型之一, 属于全国主体功能区规划中的禁止开发区域, 纳入全国生态保护红线区域管控范围, 实行最严格保护。对国家公园实行最严格保护具有重要意义, 但在国家公园理论研究和具体管理实践中, 严格保护并未被准确理解。作为一种新型自然保护地类型的国家公园, 其功能定位、保护管理理念和方式区别于其他自然保护地, 对国家公园实行严格保护也要与国家公园这些特殊的功能定位和特别的保护管理理念、管理方式相结合。本文系统分析了国家公园最严格保护的提出背景和过程, 探讨了如何全面准确理解最严格保护及其重要意义, 在此基础上, 提出对国家公园实行最严格保护的实现路径, 包括理顺管理体制、健全法制保障、强化监督管理、强化协同管理、规范特许经营、完善社会参与、加强教育培训等七个方面, 包含实行中央直管、明确央地事权、落实资金保障、完善法律法规、实行综合执法等23项具体策略。  相似文献

1. Information on the guild structure of foliage‐associated tropical insects is scarce, especially as caterpillars are mostly considered only as herbivores feeding on living leaves. However, many caterpillar species display alternative trophic associations, feeding on dead or withered leaves or epiphylls (‘non‐herbivores’). 2. To determine the contribution of these non‐herbivores, caterpillar communities associated with Chusquea Kunth (Poaceae) in the Andes of southern Ecuador were investigated. Caterpillars were collected at two elevation levels (montane rainforest ~2000 m and elfin forest at ~3000 m a.s.l.) and assigned to three feeding guilds (strict herbivores, non‐herbivores, and switchers) based on feeding trials. Foliage quality and leaf area were recorded to test for their influence on guild composition and caterpillar density. 3. Three hundred and eighty‐nine individuals belonging to 175 Lepidoptera species associated with Chusquea bamboos were found. The species richness of caterpillars was similarly high at both elevation levels but varied between feeding guilds. Approximately half (46.5%) displayed an alternative feeding association, i.e. were non‐herbivores (31.1%) or switchers (15.4%). 4. Caterpillar density was nearly two‐fold higher in the elfin forest, but only strict herbivores and switchers increased significantly with elevation. Leaf area positively influenced the density of strict herbivores and switchers; foliage quality only affected strict herbivores. The density of non‐herbivores did not differ significantly between the forest types and was not related to leaf area or foliage quality. 5. The present study underpins that non‐herbivores make up a considerable fraction of caterpillar communities in tropical mountain ecosystems and demonstrates that elevation, foliage quality and available plant biomass further shape feeding guild composition.  相似文献

The present study used wobbegong sharks (genus Orectolobus) to assess the threshold value proposed by previous research to categorize strict lecithotrophic from incipient histotrophic species. Totals of 236 and 135 ornate wobbegong Orectolobus ornatus and spotted wobbegong Orectolobus maculatus, respectively, were collected from the New South Wales commercial fishery between June 2003 and May 2006. Eight pregnant gulf wobbegong Orectolobus halei were also recorded outside the sampling period for the first time. The three species were reproductively synchronous with a gestation of c. 10-11 months. Embryos started to be macroscopically visible during January and external yolk sacs were fully absorbed by June to July when embryos were c. 200 mm total length (L(T) ). Internal yolk sacs were first observed during April to May when embryos were c. 160 mm L(T) , reached a peak during June and persisted in embryos immediately prior to parturition. The total wet mass from uterine egg to full-term embryos increased by 44-89% and 45-62%, whereas the total organic mass decreased by 32-33% and 26%, for O. ornatus and O. maculatus, respectively, suggesting that these species are strict lecithotrophic yolk-sac viviparous sharks with no maternal nutrient input. A review of the literature identified various issues and suggested that the previously proposed organic mass loss threshold value separating strict lecithotrophic species from incipient histotrophic species might not be appropriate. Instead, it is recommended that a combination of methods (e.g. estimation of organic mass gain or loss between ovarian egg and developed embryo, histology and electron microscopy of the uterus, radio-tracer assay and uterine fluid analysis throughout gestation) is used to discern between strict lecithotrophic and incipient histotrophic species.  相似文献

Oscillibacter valericigenes is a mesophilic, strictly anaerobic bacterium belonging to the clostridial cluster IV. Strain Sjm18-20T (=NBRC 101213T =DSM 18026T) is the type strain of the species and represents the genus Oscillibacter Iino et al. 2007. It was isolated from the alimentary canal of a Japanese corbicula clam (Corbicula japonica) collected on a seacoast in Shimane Prefecture in Japan. Phylogenetically, strain Sjm18-20T is closest to uncultured bacteria in digestive tracts, including the enriched cells thought to represent Oscillospira guilliermondii Chatton and Perard 1913. The isolated phylogenetic position and some distinct characteristics prompted us to determine the complete genome sequence. The 4,410,036 bp chromosome and the 60,586 bp plasmid were predicted to encode a total of 4,723 protein-coding genes.  相似文献
