A single intraperitoneal injection of DL-methionine (500 mg/kg body wt.) to adult male Wistar rats was shown to significantly induce all the components of the hepatic microsomal mixed function oxidase system such as NADPH cytochrome C reductase activity, cytochromes P-450 and b5, as well as activities of drug metabolizing enzymes such as aminopyrine demethylase and uridine 5′ -diphosphate-glucuronosyltransferase. Combined administration of nicotinamide (250 mg/kg body wt.) and DL-methionine (500 mg/kg body wt.) was shown to bring about an additional increase (25-30%) in the activities of these enzymes as compared to their induction on independent administration of the two endobiotics. In rats bearing Yoshida sarcoma (ascites) tumour as well as in normal rats injected with serum from tumour bearing animals, the decreased activities of hepatic mixed function oxidases could be restored to their normal levels by administration of DL-methionine (500 mg/kg body wt.) to these rats. Whereas actinomycin D (1 mg/kg body wt.) had no effect on the increased incorporation of [14C] labelled leucine into microsomal proteins following administration of nicotinamide, the enhanced incorporation of the label following DL-methionine administration was completely inhibited by the same dose of actinomycin D. Administration of cycloheximide (0·5 mg/kg body wt.) to rats could completely inhibit the increased incorporation of [14C] leucine into hepatic microsomal proteins following independent administration of nicotinamide and DL-methionine. Similar inhibitory pattern with actinomycin D and cycloheximide was also demonstrated in case of induction of NADPH cytochromeC reductase activity by both these endobiotics.  相似文献

Maize (Zea mays L.) and ricebean (Vigna umbellata [Thumb.] Ohwi and Ohashi) were grown in intercrop and monoculture on Tropaqualf soils under rainfed conditions in Northern Thailand yearly from 1983 to 1986. De Wit's replacement design was used to compare intercrops and monocultures with a constant plant density equivalent to 80 000 maize or 160 000 ricebean plants ha−1. Combined nitrogen was applied at varying levels to 200 kg N ha−1. In the final two seasons the intercrop ratio of maize: ricebean was also varied. At the time of maize maturity intercrops yielded upt 49 kg ha−1 more N in the above ground plant parts than the best monoculture. Dry matter, grain and nitrogen yield of maize and ricebean in intercrop relative to their monoculture yields (RY, relative yield) were significantly greater than their respective share of the plant population. Relative yield totals (RYT) for grain, dry matter and nitrogen were always greater than 1. Nitrogen uptake per maize plant increased with progressive replacement of maize by ricebean plants. This increase was similar to that obtained by applying combined N. Available soil nitrogen tended to decrease with increasing maize:ricebean ratio. Increasing the maize:ricebean ratio increased the % of nitrogen derived from fixation in ricebean, the increase being equivalent to that obtained by decreasing combined nitrogen application. Approximately the same amount of fertilizer and soil nitrogen was taken up by maize plus ricebean in intercrop as the maize monoculture. The results suggest that the improved nitrogen economy of the intercrop resulted from the strong competitiveness of maize in the use of mineral nitrogen and the enhancement of nitrogen fixation in intercropped ricebean which made it less dependent on the depleted pool of soil nitrogen.  相似文献

Summary Staphylococcus aureus was used to assess the bactericidal efficacy of aqueous solutions of the organicN-chloramine compound 3-chloro-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolidinone (agent I) formed in situ. The rate of in situ formation, accomplished by reacting free chlorine with the amine precursor, was a function of pH. When the reagents were combined under acidic conditions (pH5.5) and allowed to react for 22 h, sufficient residual free chlorine was present to inactivate the bacteria in less than 5 min. When combined under less acidic conditions (pH6.0), comparable bacterial inactivation required 30–60 min due to the extensive reaction of the free chlorine to form agent I. The kill rates present under less acidic and neutral conditions are equivalent to those for pre-formed agent I. In water disinfection applications for pH6.0, in situ formation of agent I would provide a combination of rapid initial and slower long-term disinfection.  相似文献

本文对吸附精制百白破混合制剂的不同配方进行了实验,结果表明,新一代吸附精制百白破混合制剂最佳配方为:精制百日咳菌苗18μgPN/ml、精制白喉类毒素为30Lf/ml、精制破伤风类毒素为10Lf/ml。由该配方组成的吸附精制百白破混合制剂,其中百日咳菌苗的毒性试验BWDU/ml、LPU/ml、HSU/ml三种指标均符合制检规程要求。其效力单位(IU/ml)超过规程要求一倍以上,精制白喉和破伤风类毒素的安全试验均符合规程要求,白类效力试验≥80-100%,破类效力试验≥0.5-4.5IU/ml。上述结果说明本文提出的配方作为新一代精制百白破混合制剂的配方是适宜和实用的。  相似文献

High concentrations of adenosine (Ado), when added to L1210 lymphocytic leukemia cells, resulted in apoptosis or programmed cell death. The apoptotic process was accompanied by distinct morphological changes including chromatin condensation and blebbing of plasma membranes. Extensive DNA fragmentation was correlated with Ado concentrations. Furthermore, apoptosis in these cells was preceded by an early but transient expression of c-myc proto-oncogene, and was not influenced by homocysteine thiolactone added to the cells. Since severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is associated with a deficiency of adenosine deaminase, leading to defects in both cellular and humoral immunity, Ado-induced apoptosis may thus be a contributing factor in the pathology of SCID.  相似文献

The effects of salinity on the reproduction of coastal submerged macrophyte species were studied on samples of communities from six seasonal marshes in two outdoor experiments performed in autumn and in spring. The submerged macrophyte communities were submitted to five different salinity levels (0, 1, 2, 4 and 6 g/1 Cl?1). In a companion paper (Grillas, van Wijck & Bonis 1993) three groups of species were distinguished on the basis of their biomass production over the salinity range 0 to 6 g/1 Cl?1: (1) glycophytes (non-salt-tolerant species), (2) salt-tolerant species and (3) halo-phytes. This part of the study describes the impact of salinity on the reproduction of the individual species during the two experiments. The species differ in their capacity to reproduce in the autumn; only Zannichelliapedunculata and Tolypella hispánica were able to produce fruits in that season. For all species reproduction was greater in spring and strongly correlated with biomass, except for Chara canescens. Differences in reproductive effort over the salinity range amplified the halophytic nature of Ruppia marítima and Chara canescens and the intolerance of Callitriche truncata and Chara contraria. For the other species, reproductive effort did not differ significantly over the salinity range. Regarding the effect of salinity on biomass and reproductive effort of individual species, there were large differences in the total weight of propagules produced at the community level and in the relative contribution of individual species. The resulting quantitative changes in the species composition of the seed bank could affect the structure of the communities by their effects on the establishment and survival of species populations.  相似文献
