The guava weevil, Conotrachelus psidii is an aggressive pest of guava (Psidium guajava L.) that causes irreparable damages inside the fruit. The volatile compounds of male and female insects were separately collected by headspace solid-phase microextraction or with dynamic headspace collection on a polymer sorbent, and comparatively analyzed by GC–MS. (1R,2S,6R)-2-Hydroxymethyl-2,6-dimethyl-3-oxabicyclo[4.2.0]octane (papayanol), and (1R,2S,6R)-2,6-dimethyl-3-oxabicyclo[4.2.0]octane-2-carbaldehyde (papayanal) were identified (ratio of 9:1, respectively) as male-specific guava weevil volatiles. Papayanal structure was confirmed by comparison of spectroscopic (EIMS) and chromatographic (retention time) data with those of the synthetic pure compound. The behavioral response of the above-mentioned compounds was studied in a Y-tube olfactometer bioassay, and their role as aggregation pheromone candidate components was suggested in this species.  相似文献

Abstract 1. Colonies of the social caterpillar Eutachyptera psidii (Sallé) (Hymenoptera: Lasiocampidae) occurring on oak (Quercus) in upland forests of Mexico endure periods as long as 6 weeks, with little or no food or water between the time host trees shed their leaves in April and produce new leaves in June. 2. By monitoring the activity of both field and laboratory colonies with infrared activity monitors and data loggers, it was found that although colonies remain active during the period of deprivation, their foraging activity shifts from once nightly when food is available to once every second night when food‐deprived. 3. Over a period of absolute food and water deprivation of 18 days, caterpillars lost an average of 36% of their initial mass but none perished. On average, the caterpillars regained their pre‐starvation mass within a few days after food was provided and continued to grow thereafter. During the period of starvation, caterpillars were observed to chew on dead and dried leaves in the field and on sheets of paper in the laboratory. 4. To the authors’ knowledge, there is no other documented instance of a species of caterpillar that exhibits the physiological capacity to engage in a similar level of persistent activity when forced to endure a prolonged period with neither food nor water.  相似文献

Wilt of Psidium guajava L., incited by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. psidii and Fusarium solani is a serious soil borne disease of guava in India. Forty-two isolates, each of F. oxysporum f. sp. psidii (Fop) and F. solani (Fs), collected from different agro climatic zones of India showing pathogenicity were subjected to estimate their virulence factor in terms of analysis using virulent gene-related microsatellite loci. The erratic spread and occurrence of guava wilt in different areas may be due to variable aggressiveness or virulence of different pathogenic isolates in the soil. Out of 10 virulent gene locus related microsatellite markers ofFusarium spp., only six marker viz. Xyl, KHS1, PelA1, PG6/7, CHS1/2 and FMK1/MAPK1 were successfully amplified. This indicates that all the tested Fusarium sp. isolates of guava are having virulence gene in their genome. Microsatellite marker for virulence factor genes of Xyl loci was amplified in both Fop and Fs isolates. Product size of 281 bps was exactly amplified with a single banding pattern in all the isolates of Fop and Fs. It has been observed that other five microsatellite marker for virulence factor genes such as KHS1, PelA1, PG6/7, CHS1/2 and FMK1/MAPK1 were amplified with specific band pattern. PG6/7, CHS1/2 and FMK1/MAPK1 were only amplified in Fop isolates with a product size of 765 bps, 1566 bps; 1010 bps and 1244 bps. PelA1 and KHS1were amplified only in Fs isolates with the product size of 586 bps; 1359 bps, respectively. The results indicate that virulence factor genes are in response to produce wilt disease like symptoms in guava plants and also having pathogenic gene-related locus.  相似文献

Wilt is the most destructive disease of guava in India. Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. psidii and Fusarium solani are reported as most commonly isolated pathogens and are considered to be associated singly or in combination with roots of wilt affected plants of guava (Psidium guajava L.). Histopathological observations were made of the roots of wilt affected guava plants in the present investigation. The observations of wilted guava root showed disintegration/necrosis of the epidermal tissue, cortex tissue and vascular bundle cells. In T.S. of root of wilted plant the normal shape of the epidermis was disrupted and there was breaking and opening in the epidermis through which pathogen may enter in the host tissue. Necrosis of the internal tissue and vascular bundle restricts the movement of water and nutrient and thus results wilting.  相似文献

To assess the impact of non-host crops intercropping, bioagents and oil cakes, on population dynamics of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. psidii (Fop) and wilt of guava. Lowest population of Fop was recorded in garlic followed by intercropping with marigold with reduction of 84.9 and 83.9%, respectively. Bioagents viz; Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum reduced the Fop population significantly, with the lowest in T. harzianum followed by A. niger. Garlic bulb extract exhibited maximum inhibition of Fop growth (2.7 cm) followed by marigold (2.4 cm), respectively, over control. Neem cake significantly reduced population of Fop, closely followed by mahua cake, over control. Integration of neem cake + T. harzianum + garlic reduced the Fop population significantly, over control, followed by neem cake + T. harzianum + marigold but neem cake + T. harzianum + marigold reduced wilt disease significantly in comparison to neem cake + T. harzianum + garlic inter-cropping.  相似文献

近年来,以枝条萎蔫、枝干干枯直至整株枯死为典型症状的番石榴枯萎病在广州南沙区严重发生。为明确该病害的病因,我们进行了病害调查、标本采集、病原菌分离和致病性测定;通过病原菌的显微形态比较和基于多基因系统发育分析,鉴定了病原菌种类;通过对寄主不同部位接种,测定了病原菌对寄主根、茎干和果的侵染能力。结果表明,引起广州南沙番石榴枯萎病的病原菌为番石榴纳氏霉Nalanthamala psidii,该菌不仅能从有伤的枝条侵染造成整株枯死,还能从根部侵染,使植株生长明显减缓,最终造成植株枯死,此外还可以侵染果实造成腐烂症状。本研究明确了广州南沙发生的番石榴枯萎病与中国台湾、马来西亚和南非报道的番石榴立枯病是一种病害,均是由番石榴纳氏霉侵染引起,为该病害的侵染特性及防控技术研究提供理论依据。  相似文献

Out of eight microsatellite markers, only four microsatellite markers, viz. MB 13, MB 17, RE 102 and AY212027 were amplified with single band pattern showing the character of identical marker for molecular characterisation and genetic identification. Microsatellite marker MB 13 was amplified in F. oxysporum f. sp. psidii and F. solani isolates. Product size of 296 bps and 1018 bps were exactly amplified with a single banding pattern in all the isolates of F. oxysporum f. sp. psidii and F. solani, respectively. Microsatellite markers, viz. MB 17, RE 102 and AY212027 were also exactly amplified with a single banding pattern. MB 17 was amplified in F. oxysporum f. sp. psidii isolates with a product size of 300 bp. RE 102 and AY212027 were amplified in F. solani isolates with the product size of 153 bp and 300 bp, respectively. Therefore, amplified microsatellite marker may be used as identifying DNA marker.  相似文献

Resistance genes (R genes) in plants mediate a highly specific response to microbial pathogens, often culminating in localized cell death. Such resistance is generally pathogen race specific and believed to be the result of evolutionary selection pressure. Where a host and pathogen do not share an evolutionary history, specific resistance is expected to be absent or rare. Puccinia psidii, the causal agent of myrtle rust, was recently introduced to Australia, a continent rich in myrtaceous taxa. Responses within species to this new pathogen range from full susceptibility to resistance. Using the myrtle rust case study, we examine models to account for the presence of resistance to new encounter pathogens, such as the retention of ancient R genes through prolonged ‘trench warfare’, pairing of resistance gene products and the guarding of host integrity.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of temperature and wetness duration in vitro and in vivo as well as the effects of fruit age on germination and appressoria formation by conidia of Guignardia psidii , the causal agent of black spot disease in guava fruit. The temperatures tested for in vitro and in vivo experiments were 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40°C. The wetness periods studied were 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h in vitro and 6, 12 and 24 h in vivo . Fruit 10, 35, 60, 85 and 110-days old were inoculated and maintained at 25°C, with a wetness period of 24 h. Temperature and wetness duration affected the variables evaluated in vitro and in vivo . All variables reached their maximum values at between 25 and 30°C with a wetness duration of 24 h in vivo and 48 h in vitro . These conditions resulted in 31.3% conidia germination, 33.6% appressoria formation and 32.5% appressoria melanization in vitro , and 50.4% conidia germination and 9.5% appressoria formation in vivo . Fruit age also influenced these factors. As fruit age increased, conidia germination and appressoria formation gradually increased. Conidia germination and appressoria formation were 10.8% and 2.3%, respectively, in 10-day-old fruits. In 110-day-old fruits, conidia germination and appressoria formation were 42.5% and 23.2% respectively.  相似文献

We developed and characterized 15 polymorphic microsatellite markers present in the genome of the guava rust fungus, Puccinia psidii. The primers for these microsatellite markers were designed by sequencing clones from a genomic DNA library enriched for a simple sequence repeat (SSR) motif of (AG). All these 15 primer pairs successfully amplified DNA fragments from a sample of 22 P. psidii isolates, revealing a total of 71 alleles. The observed heterozygosity at the 15 loci ranged from 0.05 to 1.00. The SSR markers developed would be useful for population genetics study of the rust fungus.  相似文献
