Catechin, a yellow colored molecule obtained from the wood of Acacia catechu was analyzed for its interaction with synthetic DNA duplexes using spectroscopic analysis. UV-Visible spectroscopic analysis revealed the non-intercalative binding mode. Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis expose chemical shift indicated by various vibrational stretches and an increase in the intensity of base stacking was observed by Circular Dichroism (CD), respectively. This inference was further confirmed through nuclear staining technique and also in electrophoretic technique; the dye quenches the fluorescent intensity of ethidium bromide. The result of fluorescence spectroscopy was in concordance with the electrophoretic technique. In addition, the spectroscopic results were in accordance with the molecular docking studies of specific catechin compound from the catechu dye with CT-DNA. This kind of site specificity is a gain in the medicinal field as the drug can be DNA targeted for cancer therapeutics. The present work reveals that catechu dye has a noteworthy application in the field of medical bioscience. 相似文献

花椒(Zanthoxylum bungeamun)种植对喀斯特山区土壤水稳性团聚体分布及有机碳周转的影响 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
以贵州西南部喀斯特山区35年生和14年生花椒林为研究对象,并以未退耕旱地为对照,研究表层土壤(0~20 cm)水稳性团聚体分布及有机碳矿化特征,探讨土壤有机碳周转对不同花椒种植年限的响应。结果表明:随团聚体粒径的降低,两种年龄花椒林土壤水稳性团聚体含量呈现先增加后减少的倒"V"形分布,土壤水稳性团聚体分布主要出现在5~2、2~1和1~0.5 mm 3个粒级中;与旱地相比,花椒种植明显增加了全土和团聚体中有机碳和活性有机碳含量,并以14年生花椒林较高,而35年生花椒林存在较明显的衰减;随花椒种植年限的增加,土壤有机碳矿化累积量呈递减趋势,但土壤有机碳周转半衰期以14年生花椒林较长,显著高于旱地和35年生花椒林,表明14年生花椒林土壤有机碳更易累积,表现出较好的土壤碳固存能力;喀斯特山区种植花椒后,土壤有机碳存在"汇-源"的转换过程,因此花椒种植应注重长期维护管理,防止土壤质量的衰退。 相似文献

On 19 May 1999, the capture of a neonate male of the prickly shark Echinorhinus cookei (377 mm L T ) off Michoacán Coast (18°40'N: 103°47'W) was recorded. The prickly shark was found at a depth of 132 m; it was collected over muddy bottom using a trawl net. In Mexico, representatives of this species are scarce o. the Pacific Coast; this new record extends the known southern range 261 km from 21°01'N to 18°40'N for the continental coast. The organism was deposited in the ichthyological reference collection of the Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo, A.C, Unidad Mazatlán (catalogue number, CIAD 01–03 Mazatlán). Before approaching anther culture as a tool to trigger an androgenic response in a new species, it is advisable to characterize
and correlate flower and male gametophyte development to enable reproducible identification of the appropriate starting material.
Buds and flowers of Opuntia ficus-indica cv. Gialla were classified in eight stages according to their total length at the earlier stages and the length of the corolla
in flowers with emerging sepals. Due to the low condensation of chromatin in the microspore nucleus as well as in the vegetative
nucleus of the bi- and tricellular pollen along with the high autofluorescence of the intricate exine, DAPI staining turned
out not to be feasible in this species. Therefore an approach based on light-microscopy observation of semithin sections was
used. These sections were stained with toluidine blue for general structure recognition and I2KI to study starch deposition. Correlations were made between the sequential floral and male gametophyte development. Using
this approach we determined the timing of pollen formation and observed that pollen development is impaired in plants producing
seedless fruits. Furthermore, anther culture was carried out with anthers collected from flower buds at stages 2 and 3. Most

Abstract The death of smaller stems of trees due to fire is widespread in savannas. There are currently two hypotheses as to how tree stems avoid stem death; by (i) growing tall and enabling the terminal buds to escape being scorched; and (ii) growing a larger stem diameter and thus being buffered against the heat of the fire. Laboratory‐based tests of these hypotheses on one savanna tree species, Acacia karroo Haynes, support the contention that the important parameter is stem diameter. In addition, anatomical evidence of heat impacts to xylem suggests that damage to the xylem of a stem may play a mechanistic role in causing stem death. 相似文献

Abstract. 1. The simultaneous occupation of a rare understorey ant-acacia Acacia mayana by its guarding ant Pseudomyrmex ferrugineus , and an apparent opportunist parasite of the mutualism, the generalist ant Camponotus planatus is described. The two ant species occur together in 30.7% of the 26 mature A. mayana plants [23.5% of all trees ( n = 34)] surveyed, but C. planatus is absent from saplings below 1 m in height ( n = 8).
2. While P. ferrugineus shows behaviour compatible with effective host-tree defence, C. planatus does not attack phytophagous insects and appears ineffective as an ant-guard. Camponotus planatus does, however, occupy swollen thorns (pseudogalls) on the host tree, and harvests nectar from extrafloral leaf nectaries. It is proposed that C. planatus is a parasite of the Acacia–Pseudomyrmex mutualism.
3. Camponotus planatus does not harvest the second trophic reward produced by the tree for its Pseudomyrmex ant-guards, protein-rich food (Beltian) bodies. Camponotus planatus lack the specialised larval adaptations needed to use Beltian bodies as brood food, suggesting that this resource is potentially more resistant to exploitation by generalists than extrafloral nectar.
4. In competition for access to nectaries, C. planatus effectively displaced P. ferrugineus in 99.8% of encounters. Four factors (moisture, light regime, temperature, food type) were examined for their effects on the embryonic diapause of Homichloda (Weiseana) barkeri (Jacoby) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), a biocontrol agent for prickly acacia, Acacia nilotica (L.) Willdenew ex Delile (Mimosaceae). Moisture is critical for termination of diapause. A single wetting of eggs resulted in a low hatch rate while a sequence of wetting events followed by periods of dryness produced a high hatch rate. A relatively constant proportion of embryos within each batch initiated development at each wetting event, with hatching complete after the eighth wetting event in these trials. An extended interval between wetting events, tested at up to 23 days, did not result in a decreased overall hatch rate. A threshold time of exposure to moisture of between 3 to 6 h is required before development proceeds. The response of eggs to the moisture regime is seen as a strategy for taking advantage of available food after rainfall by terminating diapause, rather than merely a quiescent response to the absence of moisture. Temperature affected development time and the proportion of eggs that developed. Experimental manipulations of photoperiod and host-plant availability showed no effect on embryonic development. 相似文献

Synopsis We conducted laboratory trials to test the vulnerability of young white sturgeon, Acipenser transmontanus, to predation when an alternative prey was available. In trials with two species of predators, we observed two feeding patterns.
When equal numbers of white sturgeon and goldfish, Carassius auratus, were available, prickly sculpins, Cottus asper, ingested more white sturgeon. Conversely, northern pikeminnow, Ptychocheilus oregonensis, ate more juvenile coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch, than white sturgeon in three out of four sets of trials, but ate more white sturgeon in one set of trials. White sturgeon
size and the availability of cover did not affect the proportions of prey species ingested. Our results indicate that predation
may be affecting survival of white sturgeon larvae and juveniles in the wild and could be one factor limiting recruitment
of young-of-the-year white sturgeon in some locations. 相似文献

Prickly ash trees with shortened internodes, proliferation of shoots, phyllody and witches' brooms were observed for the first time in Korea. A phytoplasma was detected in infected trees by polymerase chain reaction amplification of 16S rDNA, 16S–23S intergenic spacer region and the fragment of rp operon sequences. The 16S rDNA sequences exhibited maximum (99.6%) similarity with Iranian lettuce phytoplasma, and the sequences of rp operon exhibited maximum (100%) similarity with golden rain phytoplasma. Based on the sequence analysis and phylogenetic studies, it was confirmed that phytoplasma infecting prickly ash trees in Korea belongs to the aster yellows group (subgroup 16SrI‐B). 相似文献
