Summary A study to evaluate and define the atmospheric pollen concentration in Trentino was carried out through the aerobiologic sampling in three localities chosen according to their different climatic conditions.1375 patients with pollinosis living in Trentino were studied retrospectively over the period ranging from 1986 to 1988 and selected according to the area they came from.Results have proved that the most allergenic pollen types are the following: Poaceae, Urticaceae (Parietaria), Compositae (Artemisia) and the tree pollen of Betulaceae and Corylaceae (Alnus, Betula, Corylus), and that pollinosis caused by such pollen, types has different features and frequencies according to the different localities.As far as symptoms are concerned, our data shows that rhinoconjuntivitis is more frequent in those patients who are allergic toParietaria while asthma results being more frequent in patients who are allergic to tree pollen.  相似文献

In the last 2 years we have conducted an aerobiological monitoring program ofCryptomeria japonica, a plant belonging to the family of Taxodiaceae that sometimes causes pollinosis in the period from February to April. Throughout 1994, we checked the incidence of its sensitization and the clinical effects in 85 subjects with correlated seasonal symptoms, who gave a positive skin prick test (SPT) for Betulaceae and/or Corylaceae. Twenty-five patients (29.4%; 19 M; 6 F; mean age, 38.8 years) all with oculorhinitis, were SPT positive to an allergenic extract ofCryptomeria. RAST confirmed this positivity in 44% of the cases. No patients showed monosensitization forCryptomeria to either SPT or RAST. Two subjects gave a positive result on specific nasal provocation. RAST inhibition showed no cross-reaction betweenCryptomeria and birch pollen. During the pollen season each patient made a list, scoring symptoms and specifying any drugs used, so we could correlate these elements with aerobiological observations. The pollen concentration probably exceeded the allergizing threshold forCryptomeria on 8 days during 3 months of recording. The intensity and duration of symptoms seemed to be mainly influenced by sensitization to Betulaceae and Corylaceae. It is thus possible that a combination of minor pollinosis may produce seasonal symptoms in allergic patients.  相似文献

We investigated 115 individuals in Tokyo from two groups of persons with conspicuous nevi on the head, neck, and arms, etc. (nevus-positive group) and persons who do not exhibit such nevi (nevi-negative group) interviewing them to determine whether they suffered from allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis (pollinosis) and examining them for the presence and extent of nevi. There was a distinct correlation: only 5 persons among 85 individuals of the nevus-positive group suffered from pollinosis, and all 30 people in the nevus-negative group had pollinosis. Thus, individuals exhibiting conspicuous nevi are resistant to pollinosis, but those who do not show increased susceptibility to pollinosis.  相似文献

Peptide immunotherapy using dominant T-cell epitopes is safer and more effective than conventional immunotherapy for the treatment of immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergic diseases. When allergenic T-cell epitope peptides are expressed in the edible part of transgenic plants, successful mucosal immune tolerance to these allergens may be attainable by the consumption of these plants. In this study, we generated transgenic rice seed that accumulated high concentrations (about 60 microg per grain) of polypeptide consisting of seven dominant human T-cell epitopes derived from the Japanese cedar pollen allergens, Cry j 1 and Cry j 2, in the endosperm. Oral administration of these transgenic rice seeds to B10.S mice before or after they were immunized with Cry j 1 holoprotein reduced not only their T-cell proliferative response to Cry j 1, but also their serum IgE levels, proving the efficacy of oral immunotherapy for the treatment of pollinosis.  相似文献

In this study, air pollutants such as NO 3 and SO 4 –2 which were found deposited on Japanese cedar pollen in a mountainous area (Tsukechi-cho), and in an urban area (Mizuho Ward, Nagoya City) were measured by ion-chromatography in March 1987 and again in March 1991. An investigation of the pollinosis rate in about 400 Junior High School students in both areas was undertaken during the same periods through both a questionnaire study, and a physical examination. Information was also gathered on the number of vehicles passing through the corresponding areas. The results of this research are as follows: (1) The quantity of NO 3 deposited on the pollen of Japanese cedar was about 2.3 and 2.0 times greater in the urban area than in the mountainous area (1987 and 1991, respectively). The concentration of SO 4 –2 was about 7.8 and 3.6 times higher in the urban area than in the mountainous area (1987 and 1991, respectively). (2) The results of a questionnaire study taken at the two Junior High Schools from the different districts showed a lower incidence of nasal symptoms in the mountainous area than in the urban area for 1987. The percentage of pollinosis shown by physical examination in the mountainous area rose from 20.1% in 1987 to 30.0% in 1991, and this corresponds to a rise in the number of motor vehicles in the area. Comparatively, in the urban area, the questionnaire results and physical examinations revealed no changes from 1987 to 1991.  相似文献

Summary Pollen data have been collected from 66 stations, situated in 19 European countries thanks to the initiative of both the Working Group «European Aeroallergen Network» (of the Int. Assoc. of Aerobiology) and the Subcommittee «Aerobiology of inhalant allergens» of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology. Volumetric data over periods of 3 to 5 years (up to 1988) were included, and 15 both aerobiologically and allergologically relevant taxa were selected. Geographically adjacent stations were grouped together into regions looking at the peak period of the airborne grass-pollen presence. The result is a collection of 21 regional European pollen calendars, some of which are covering several countries (e.g. «Western Europe»), others are applicable only to a part of one country (e.g. «Southern Italy»).Comparing the calendars, general features are the South-to-North delay shift in the appearance of tree-pollen types in Spring, and the reverse shift for the weed-pollen types in late summer. The presence ofAmbrosia pollen in the air in several parts of Central Europe is clearly shown.  相似文献

During the last years, a well documented expansion ofragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Ambrosia trifida L.) over the Mediterranean andtemperate Europe has been in progress. The currentdistribution of ragweed plants in the Czech Republicis summarized and the ragweed pollen concentration asmonitored by 12 pollen stations in the country isdiscussed. The present situation in the ragweed pollensensitization among children and adults with pollenallergy in Brno is described. So far no dangerousexpansion of ragweed plants in our country has beenobserved. Ragweed pollen concentration is occasionallysignificant in the Brno station only, other pollenstations are reporting insignificant amounts ofragweed pollen during August-September periods,although there has been a steady increase in ragweedpollen concentration in the Prague area over the lastfive years. Skin prick tests and/or specific IgEmeasurements with ragweed allergen were performed on94 children with pollen allergy in the Brno region in1995 and on 206, 210 and 229 adult allergic patientsin 1995, 1996 and 1997, respectively. Positive skinreaction or positive specific IgE to ragweed was foundin 22% children and in 25% (1995), 19% (1996) and 25% (1997) adults with pollen allergy. It isconcluded that ragweed does not seem to represent anyimminent major threat to the allergic population inthe Czech Republic until now, however, it remains apotentially very dangerous allergen.  相似文献

Respiratory allergic diseases appear to be increasingin both prevalence and severity in most countries, andsubjects living in urban and industrialized areas aremore likely to have respiratory allergic symptoms thanthose living in rural areas. This increase has beenlinked, among various factors, to air pollution and tothe westernized lifestyle. In the outdoor environment,the most important air pollutants are sulphur dioxide,nitrogen dioxide, ozone and particulate matter.Particulate diesel exhaust emissions, besides actingas irritant, are thought to modulate the immuneresponse, with an adjuvant activity on IgE synthesis,thereby facilitating allergic sensitization inpredisposed subjects. In other words, atopic statecan be upregulated by environmental influences, andsome subjects develop atopic disease in response tothese environmental factors when they are inhaled incombination with aeroallergens. Moreover, airpollutants produce greater responses in asthmaticsubjects. Since airborne pollen allergens and airpollutants are often increased contemporaneously, anenhanced IgE-mediated response to aeroallergens andenhanced airway inflammation could account for theincreasing frequency of allergic respiratory diseases,in particular those induced by pollen allergens, inurban areas.  相似文献

The gene for monoamine oxidase (MAO) was cloned from an Escherichia coli genomic library and MAO was overproduced in the periplasmic space. The enzyme was purified to homogeneity by preparation of a periplasmic fraction, followed by ammonium sulfate fractionation and DEAE-cellulose column chromatography. Crystals were obtained by the hanging drop method using sodium citrate as a precipitant. The enzyme was found to be a dimer of identical subunits with a molecular weight of 80,000, and showed the highest activity at pH 7.5 and 45°C. The enzyme was inhibited by a MAO specific inhibitor, hydroxylamine, hydrazine, phenelzine, isoniazid, and tranycypromine. The enzyme oxidized tyramine, phenethylamine, and tryptamine at higher rates, but not oxidized diamine and polyamines such as putrecine and spermine. The antibody against E. coli MAO cross-reacted with purified MAO A from Klebsiella aerogenes.  相似文献

IgE antibodies against allergens of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica, CJ) pollen in the serum of seven Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata) with pollinosis were measured by fluorometric indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). All of the monkeys were found to have specific IgE to the crude pollen antigen. The specific IgE levels were well correlated with those determined by the Pharmacia CAP system. IgE antibodies were then assayed with two kinds of purified allergens (Cry j I and Cry j II) by the ELISA. We found that five monkeys had specific IgE to both allergens, although the other two had IgE only to Cry j I or Cry j II; there is different immune responsiveness to the two major allergens in the monkeys.  相似文献
