In a two-year-study, the fish community of the Loosdrecht Lakes area was characterized with regard to the professional fishery and the forage base. The lakes are shallow (mean depth 2 m) and eutrophic to hypertrophic. The bream,Abramis brama, dominates the fish biomass. The pikeperch,Stizostedion lucioperca, is the main predator.Bream up to 30 cm have a slow growth rate and are in a bad condition. A faster growth rate and a better condition are shown by bream of 30 cm and more. The small bream feeds on chironomid larvae, benthic cladocerans and zooplankton. The better condition of bream over 30 cm is explained by the more efficient feeding of larger bream onChironomus plumosus larvae. Pikeperch show a fast growth rate and a good condition. Recruitment is limited by the low densities of smelt,Osmerus eperlanus, leaving cannibalism as the most important way for the 0+ pikeperch to become piscivorous and to manifest a fast growth. The impact of the professional gillnet fishery on bream and pikeperch is small because the mesh sizes in use are as large as 75–100 mm bar mesh. The planktivorous 0+ pikeperch consumes mainly the carnivorous zooplanktersLeptodora kindtii and cyclopoids. The zooplankton community lacks large herbivorous species likeDaphnia hyalina, capable of consuming bluegreens. A possible experiment in biomanipulation with a view to find out whether the development ofD.hyalina is depressed by the small planktivorous cyprinids, is predator enhancement with the aid of a stocking programme for indoor-raised 0+ pikeperch in early summer.  相似文献

The growth of pikeperch Sander lucioperca was studied in 41 lakes in central Finland. The backcalculated average total length of 3 year‐old pikeperch was used as an indicator of growth. The growth correlated positively with total phosphorus and water colour and negatively with lake area and depth. The reason for differences in growth may be differences in the amount of suitable food, foraging success or temperature dynamics in different lakes.  相似文献

The population of pikeperch in L. Peipsi was studied with respect to average number per haul, length distribution of fishes in experimental catches, condition factor (according to Fulton) and length-weight relationship in autumn 1993–1995.The relatively good growth rate and condition of pikeperch in the lake indicates that the waterbody is suitable for this fish. However, the length and age distribution of pikeperch in different years as well as the decreasing total number of fishes in catches demonstrate that the population of pikeperch is suppressed due to overfishing during the last years.  相似文献

During a five year study, the size and abundance of zooplankton and 0+ fish in September were registered in a number of Frisian lakes. The mean size of Daphnia was related to the abundance of planktivorous 0+ fish in September. Immigration of fish larvae into the Frisian Lake District from the IJsselmeer in June was observed in 1979 and 1980. The abundance of 0+ fish was negatively related and the size of Daphnia was positively related to the vulnerability to angling of predatory pikeperch.  相似文献

By means of analyses of catch values of selected fish species possible effects of eutrophication on the estuaries are described. Although the registered stock changes are not only a result of eutrophication a stock increase in pikeperch could be verified at the end of the first half of this century. With progressive eutrophication a great decline of migratory fish stocks took place at the end of the sixties/beginning of the seventies. The decline of eel stocks is not caused by eutrophication. Afterwards pike stocks show an aggravating decline in hypertrophic estuaries which are related to the decline of macrophytes. Baltic whitefish has still kept up its stock level under these conditions. Symptoms for a growing danger of an unexpected disaster are increasing to the whole fish community of extremely polluted waters.  相似文献

The influence of turbidity on foraging and growth of young-of-the-year (YOY) of two percid species with relatively dissimilar sensory physiology, perch Perca fluviatilis and pikeperch Sander lucioperca was tested. A littoral mysid, Neomysis integer , was used as prey. Functional response was investigated indoors at two levels of turbidity, 3 NTU (clear) and 25 NTU (turbid). Growth and consumption rate were studied both during day and night in outdoor experiments at similar turbidity levels. Pikeperch were not affected by turbid conditions in either of the experiments. Foraging of perch, on the other hand, was significantly negatively affected by higher turbidity in the functional response experiments and during the night-time in the outdoor experiments. As opposed to pikeperch, consumption rates of perch decreased markedly during nights. Perch also grew more slowly in the treatments with turbid water. The dissimilar reactions of the two species indicate that sensory physiological adaptations and foraging behaviour are important factors that partly can explain disparate reactions of YOY fishes to the level of turbidity.  相似文献

Causes and consequences of the success of bream in Dutch eutrophic lakes   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
In the last decennia eutrophication has caused a shift in the species composition of fish communities in Dutch fresh waters. The changes have led to the disappearance of vegetation in lakes and ponds; zooplankton and chironomids are now the most abundant food organisms for fish. In the turbid, open waters bream and pikeperch are the dominant fish species. Only small bream is vulnerable to predation, but because bream grows much faster than the other cyprinids the time span in which the fish is vulnerable is the shortest. The large bream (>20 cm) can coexist with pikeperch since it is not vulnerable to predation and still utilizes the food organisms efficiently. Eutrophication is accelerated if both bream populations are composed of small-sized specimens preventing large-sized zooplankton to develop, and if they are composed of large-sized individuals which can efficiently stir up the bottom sediments.  相似文献

We studied life‐history traits focusing on the growth and condition of the pikeperch Sander lucioperca to evaluate its phenotypic plasticity when introduced to new environments. Pikeperch is a non‐native fish introduced to Iberian freshwater fauna in 1998 that quickly spread to other river basins through human‐mediated activities, occupying now a wide variety of habitats along mainland Portugal. Condition (K and SMI), fork length at age, and length–weight relationships were studied for Portuguese populations. Pikeperch fork length for ages 1, 2, 3, and 4 was different between several populations. We applied generalized linear models (GLM) to study the influence of habitat type, latitude, altitude, time after first detection, and fish prey richness on pikeperch populations size at age 4 and condition. We observed higher condition values on populations from lower altitudes at lentic systems more recently introduced. But higher fork length at age 4 was found in populations from higher altitudes, on older populations with higher prey richness. Habitat type, time since first detection, and fish fauna composition are discussed as the main environmental factors explaining the observed phenotypic plasticity with concerns on predatory impact on native fauna.  相似文献

In pikeperch, Sander lucioperca, aquaculture hormonal treatment is usually applied to synchronize ovulation. However, the effect of dopamine (DA) receptor antagonists, in particular those blocking the D1 DA receptors, remains unknown. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate and compare the effects of D1 and D2 DA receptor antagonists on the sex-steroid production and reproductive performance of the species. Two experiments were performed during which mature pikeperch females were injected with different molecules: NaCl 0.9% (negative control) or human chorionic gonadotropin 500 IU/kg (positive control) in both experiments, metoclopramide (a D2 receptor antagonist; 4 mg/kg or 20 mg/kg) or SCH23390 (a D1 receptor antagonist; 0.8 mg/kg or 4 mg/kg) alone (experiment 1) or in combination with a salmon gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (sGnRHa at 25 µg/kg; experiment 2). In experiment 2, fish were also injected with sGnRHa (25 µg/kg) as positive control. Samplings of oocytes and blood were performed on the day of injection and after 24 h (both experiments), after 48 h (experiment 2) and at the time of ovulation (both experiments). In non-ovulating fish, samplings were performed 7 days (experiment 1) or 14 days (experiment 2) after injection. In experiment 2, various zootechnical parameters of fertilized eggs were recorded (survival, hatching and malformation rates). The two antagonists alone were ineffective in inducing the final stages and regulating sex-steroid (testosterone, 11 ketotestosterone, 17β estradiol and 17,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one) production. When administered with sGnRHa, both SCH23390 and metoclopramide induced the final stages. However, only SCH23390 stimulated testosterone (4 mg/kg) and 17β estradiol (0.8 mg/kg) production compared with sGnRHa alone. None of the treatments affected the survival, hatching or malformation rates. This is the first report suggesting that in pikeperch the D1, but not the D2, DA receptor antagonist would be involved in the testosterone and 17β estradiol production as a potentiator of the sGnRHa effect.  相似文献

Late summer sampling of pelagic age‐0 year fish communities in five Czech reservoirs and one Dutch reservoir revealed extremely small age‐0 year pikeperch Sander lucioperca (mean 24 mm standard length, LS, minimum 13 mm LS) alongside more normal‐sized S. lucioperca that are found at the end of the first growing season (mean 50 mm LS), resulting in two clearly size‐separated cohorts. Reference to such small age‐0 year S. lucioperca in lakes or reservoirs at this time of year and in such large numbers are almost absent the scientific literature, and the presence of these small S. lucioperca is contradictory to the common understanding of the reproductive biology of this species. This overlooked phenomenon may have a major effect on the population dynamics of this valuable species because of size‐dependent winter mortality.  相似文献
