Aspergillus versicolor, which has been isolated from several mould affected houses was shown by laboratory studies under axenic conditions to produce several specific volatile compounds on water agar. These compounds were not produced by the fungus when grown on a rich malt extract medium or on several synthetic media. The volatile compounds were analysed by GC-MS. The majority of the peaks represented aromatic compounds. A non-aromatic substance which previously has been revealed by us among prominent volatile compounds sampled from building materials from so-called mould houses was produced only on water agar. According to a comparison with the mass spectrum and retention time of pure reference compound this compound is ethylhexanol, a compound not previously reported as a mould metabolite. The presence of this compound was correlated with pungent odor in the cultures.  相似文献

The addition of the proper amount of ammonium to the culture medium containing nitrate as nitrogen source enhanced the growth rate of Anabaena viguieri. The amount of geosmin produced by these cells varied with the concentrations of ammonium added. A negative correlation between the amount of geosmin produced and of the growth rate of cells was revealed. This was also found in cells grown on various forms of nitrogen sources. Without supply of any nitrogen compound, this organism is capable of fixing gaseous nitrogen, and under these conditions the cells grew relatively slowly. However, they produced more geosmin (per unit protein mass) than cells grown in the presence of combined nitrogen. The isolation of heterocysts, in which nitrogen was fixed, showed that these cells produced higher amounts of geosmin than vegetative cells. The possible relation of nitrogen assimilation to the production of geosmin in the cells was discussed.  相似文献

dl-Dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine multilamellar vesicle suspensions were examined by the method of differential scanning calorimetry. A lack of the subtransition at 18°C was established. Such a subtransition is characteristic for l-dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine suspensions. This lack is supposed to be the result of the impossibility of the racemic phospholipid mixture to form the low-temperature crystal structure Lc.  相似文献

How does a foraging honeybee come to prefer a color or odor paired with the large of two amounts of sucrose solution to a color or odor paired with the smaller amount? One hypothesis is that the attractiveness of a color or odor is based on the strength of its association with the taste of sucrose, which increases with the duration of concurrent color-taste or odor-taste stimulation. Another hypothesis is that the attractiveness of a color or odor is based on association with the afferent consequences of feeding, which are different for the two amounts. Both hypotheses were tested in experiments on proboscis-extension conditioning, a technique that provides better control of stimulation than is possible in work with free-flying foragers. In Experiments 1–3, which were designed to test the first hypothesis, an odor that accompanied the ingestion of sucrose on training trials was found to elicit extension of the proboscis when subsequently it was presented alone, but the duration of concurrent stimulation had no significant effect on the probability or persistence of the response. In Experiments 4 and 5, which were designed to test the second hypothesis, an odor that immediately followed the ingestion of sucrose on training trials failed to elicit extension of the proboscis when subsequently it was presented alone. A 4-chlorophenol (4-CP)-degrading bacterium, strain CPW301, was isolated from soil and identified as Comamonas testosteroni. This strain dechlorinated and degraded 4-CP via a meta-cleavage pathway. CPW301 could also utilize phenol as a carbon and energy source without the accumulation of any metabolites via the same meta-cleavage pathway. When phenol was added as a additional substrate, CPW301 could degrade 4-CP and phenol simultaneously. The addition of phenol greatly accelerated the degradation of 4-CP due to the increased cell mass. The simultaneous degradation of the 4-CP and phenol is useful not only for enhanced cell growth but also for the bioremediation of both compounds, which are normally present in hazardous waste sites as a mixture.  相似文献

1992-1993年,作者从菏泽、聊城棉田采集的自然罹病死亡棉铃虫幼虫体内,分离到2个较高毒效的Bt菌株,编号为BT—931和BT—021,经室内毒力测定和田间药效试验表明,防效及保蕾效果接近或超过化学农药,菌药混剂3—5天平均防治效果达87.0-91.6%,增效作用显著。经1994年大田防治示范表明,利用BT—931菌剂。配合化学农药防治棉铃虫,具有成本低、保护天敌、持效期长、增产效益高等优点。本研究对菌剂的田间应用技术进行了试验示范。  相似文献

The effect of algae on the production of musty-smelling compounds by actinomycetes was studied. Streptomyces spp., causing intensive musty odor, were isolated from hypertrophic Lake Kasumigaura and cultured in association with algae from the same lake. Isolate E and I effectively utilized the cyanobacteria, Microcystis aeruginosa and Anabaena spiroides, and the diatom, Synedra acus, as a carbon source and produced a musty-smelling 2-methylisoborneol in the shaken sediment cultures. High populations of algae and actinomycetes, and aerobic condition in the sediment seem responsible for the occurrence of musty odor in Lake Kasumigaura.  相似文献

Females of the apple maggot fly,Rhagoletis pomonella, were allowed for 3 days to alight upon and oviposit in green or red 18- to 20-mm hawthorn host fruit (Crategus mollis) or green or red 45- to 55-mm apple host fruit (Malus pumila) hung from branches of potted host trees in field enclosures. Subsequently, when females were released individually on potted host trees harboring fruit of one of these types, their ability to find fruit of unfamiliar size proved unaffected by prior experience with fruit but their ability to find fruit of unfamiliar color was significantly affected. Specifically, females exposed to red hawthorns or red apples were less able to find green hawthorns or green apples than were females experienced with either of the latter fruit types. Fruit odor was found to have no effect on female ability to find familiar compared with unfamiliar green fruit. In contrast, a difference in size (or surface chemistry) between familiar and unfamiliar fruit but not a difference in fruit color had a significant negative influence on the propensity of alighting females to bore into unfamiliar fruit. Three bouts of experience with alighting upon and ovipositing into fruit over a period of about 1 h had no detectable effect on female ability to find unfamiliar fruit but did reduce propensity to bore into unfamiliar fruit. Our findings are discussed in relation to insect ability to learn visual and chemical stimuli of resources and insect propensity to form host races. We also discuss the potential impact of our findings on nonpesticidal, behavioral methods of managingR. pomonella in commercial apple orchards.  相似文献

The monoterpene derivative, 2-methylisoborneol (MIB), is produced by many blue-green algae and often is responsible for the “musty” taste/odor in aquaculturally raised finfish and potable water supplies. Although previous researchers have suggested that taste/odor metabolites are partitioned among cell constituents and that coregulation with pigment biosynthesis occurs, no structural evidence for these hypotheses exists. MIB was localized in cells of Oscillatoria limosa (Roth) Agardh at the ultrastructural level using standard gold-labeled antibody techniques. There was no apparent relationship between age of the cells and MIB synthesis; cells that were and were not undergoing active division had similar amounts of MIB label. There was no consistent partitioning of MIB label within cells. However, occasionally, specific label was observed along photosynthetic lamellae, suggesting a potential linkage of MIB synthesis and/or binding to the pigment systems.  相似文献
