Suspension-cultured cells (A-18 line) of the liverwortMarchanta polymorpha were bombarded by a pneumatic particle gun with plasmid pCH harbouring the hygromycin phosphotransferase (HPT) gene (hpt) under the control of the cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35 S promoter and the nopaline synthase polyadenylation region. Nine weeks after bombardments, 128 hygromycin-resistant calluses were obtained from an approximate total of 7×106 cells. Ten cell lines chosen randomly were analysed further. Southern blot analysis showed that all of the ten lines contain thehpt gene in the genome, demonstrating that these lines are transformants. An HPT enzyme activity assay confirmed the expression of the gene in all of the transformant lines. 相似文献
Two enantiomeric cuparene-type sesquiterpenoids, (R)-(−)-cuparene (1) and (R)-(−)-δ-cuparenol (2), have been isolated from the liverwort, Bazzania pompeana. The structures and absolute configurations of the two compounds have been determined. 相似文献
A series of fatty acid ethyl esters ranging from C14 to C24 was isolated from a hexane extract of the liverwort Conocephalum conicum, these esters accounted for 77% of the extract. The ethyl esters consisting of even-numbered fatty acids were predominant and ethyl palmitate was the major constituent. 相似文献
AbstractScotland’s mountains are home to a rare and unique liverwort community, ‘the oceanic-montane liverwort-rich heath’, but its component species are absent from regions where they could potentially thrive. Many biological characteristics of these species are unknown, making it impossible to explain the reasons for their rarity; however, they have not been observed to produce sporophytes within Britain. We use ex situ cultivation of whole liverworts and fragments, and in situ cultivation of fragments, to assess the growth rate and the potential for vegetative reproduction of several species. Most of the species grew from both fragments and as whole plants, indicating that the rarity of the liverwort heath is not due to poor powers of regeneration. We propose that growth rate and the potential to regenerate from fragments are important factors structuring the liverwort heath community, at least locally. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that there is potential for ex situ conservation of rare liverwort species, in situ enhancement of existing populations, and creation of new ones. 相似文献
The degree of racemization in the several activated ester methods of the peptide synthesis was measured in using the critical racemization test, Pro-Val+Pro, with help of gas chromatography. The results were compared with that in the coupling reaction, Leu-Phe+Val, in which no racemization had been reported in the corresponding reaction conditions by F. Weygand et al., when the activated dipeptide esters had been prepared from Z-Leu+Phe-activated esters. The significantly higher racemization was observed in the methods of N-hydroxypiperidine ester and thiophenyl ester, even when the activated dipeptide esters were prepared from Z-Pro+Val-activated esters. On the other hand, almost no racemization was observed in the N-hydroxysuccinimide ester and p-nitrophenyl ester methods. A great extent of the racemization was detected when the activated dipeptide esters were prepared directly from Z-Pro-Val-OH. 相似文献
Three new fossil bryophytes are described from Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous deposits of the Transbaikalia region of Russia. The complex thalloid hepatic Khasurtythallus monosolenioides gen. et sp. nov. belongs to the Marchantiidae, but its combination of characters precludes unequivocal placement in any of the five orders of this subclass, representing most likely an extinct lineage. Paleaethallus squarrosus gen. et sp. nov. is a thalloid plant with scales similar to those of complex thalloid hepatics, although their arrangement and the overall plant structure has little in common with any extant hepatics. Dispersed moss capsules, three of which have attached calyptrae, are described as a form genus Kulindobryum gen. nov. Despite incomplete preservation, some rare characters indicate possible relationship to the genus Tayloria of the Splachnaceae, an extant family of mosses adapted to grow on animal dung, dead bodies and bones. Notably, Kulindobryum co‐occurs with bones of the small feathered dinosaurs Kulindadromeus, which also supports an affiliation of Kulindobryum with the Splachnaceae. The most common and best known Mesozoic moss for the region, the genus Bryokhutuliinia, is appraised for its systematic position and probable affinities with the Dicranales. A scoring approach is introduced for the comparative method of taxonomic placement of fossils with partial suites of morphological characters at the family or order level. 相似文献
Introduction.Cheilolejeunea morganii Bever. & Glenny, a new species of Cheilolejeunea from a lowland forest habitat in eastern Taranaki in the North Island of New Zealand, is described and illustrated.
Methods. DNA sequences were extracted from recently collected material at two locations and compared with those for species in a published phylogeny of the genus to establish the position of C. morganii. Photographic images were obtained of key features of the species for the preparation of illustrations for publication.
Key results.Cheilolejeunea morganii does not match any species described for New Zealand or Australia. The sequencing results indicate its position in the phylogeny is close to Section Paroicae. A key to the New Zealand species of Cheilolejeunea is provided.
Conclusions. In the Australasian flora, C. morganii is distinguished from other species by its combination of monoicy, pycnolejeuneoid gynoecial innovations, lobule length less than 50% lobe length and a multicellular second lobule tooth with 3–4 cells uniseriate. A case is presented for the recognition of the species as a New Zealand endemic. 相似文献
Microscopic evidence suggests that fungi forming endosymbioses with liverworts in the Marchantiales are arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi from the Glomeromycota. Polymerase chain reaction amplification of ribosomal sequences confirmed that endophytes of the New Zealand liverwort, Marchantia foliacea, were members of the genus Glomus. Endophytes from two Glomus rDNA phylotypes were repeatedly isolated from geographically separated liverwort samples. Multiple phylotypes were present in the same liverwort patch. The colonizing Glomus species exhibited substantial internal transcribed spacer sequence variation within phylotypes. This work suggests that certain liverwort species may serve as a model for studying DNA sequence variation in colonizing AM phylotypes and specificity in AM-host relationships. 相似文献
