Abstract

Chamaecytisus hirsutus and C. supinus: a preliminary report. – Chamaecytisus hirsutus (L.) Link and C. supinus (L.) Link have been described as twostrictly related species, which differ mainly in the form of inflorescence: C. hirsutus has lateral flowers, C. supinus has terminal flowers. Besides, most Floras provide a set of additional differential characters that should permit to di-C. hirsutus and C. supinus.

The author analyses such differential characters and demonstrates that all of them are inconsistent: therefore the inflorescence seems to be the only difference between C. hirsutus and C. supinus.

The inflorescence itself, however, is not a constant character: indeed, it is known that C. supinus may develop vernal latera flowers besides the normal aestival terminal ones.

The geographic distributions of the two inflorescence types are accurately examined (a report of the distributions is given, a list of herbarium specimens is presented in appendix, a point distribution map of the two types is given in figs. 1 and 2); the only differences are the following ones: plants with flowers in leafy racemes (usually identified as C. hirsutus) seem to be absent from Spain and from Southern Poland, and to be unfrequent in Central and Western France; instead, plants with flowers in heads (usually identified as C. supinus) are very unfrequent in the Southern Balcan Peninsula, and are absent from Southern Greece and the Italian Peninsula.

After a discussion of the biological significance of the capitate and lateral inflorescence, and on the basis of in vivo observations, the author argues that probably the same taxonomic unit is present in the whole area, showing some differences in its flowering behaviour; in the largest part of the areal – including the center of distribution of the species – most individuals flower twice, and therefore have been recorded as two different species; a trend toward the capitate inflorescence is remarkable in the North and in the West; instead, in the South and the East the trend is toward lateral flowers (fig. 3).

Further biometrical and biochemical studies on the species are now in progress; more observations in field in different parts of Europe are necessary in order to get conclusive evidence of the identity of these two so-called «species».  相似文献

A mutant unable to grow under acidic conditions was isolated from the acidophilic heterotrophic bacterium Acidiphilium facilis 24R. The growth of the mutant could be fully restored by the addition of spermidine or lysine at the concentration of 100 μm. The HPLC analysis of polyamine composition showed that spermidine and putrescine were major polyamine components in the parental strain. In the mutant strain, putrescine was replaced by cadaverine. It was found that some polyamines in the cells were conjugated with the other cell components. The growth of the bacterium in the medium below pH 4.5 was inhibited in the presence of α-methylornithine or methylglyoxal-bis(guanylhydrazone), which are inhibitors of rate-limiting enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of polyamines. The growth of the bacterium that had been inhibited in the presence of inhibitors could be fully restored by the addition of putrescine or spermidine. On the basis of these results, it was concluded that polyamines have a significant role in the growth of Acidiphilium facilis 24R under acidic conditions.  相似文献

Caesalpinia echinata and C. ferrea var. ferrea have different seed behaviours and seed and fruit types. Comparison of the seed ontogeny and anatomy partly explained the differences in seed behaviour between these two species of Brazilian legumes; some differences were also related to fruit development. The seed coat in C. ferrea consisted of two layers of osteosclereids, as well as macrosclereids and fibres, to form a typical legume seed coat, whereas C. echinata had only macrosclereids and fibres. In C. echinata , the developing seed coat had paracytic stomata, a feature rarely found in legume seeds. These seed coat features may account for the low longevity of C. echinata seeds. The embryogeny was similar in both species, with no differences in the relationship between embryo growth and seed growth. The seeds of both species behaved as typical endospermic seeds, despite their different morphological classification (exendospermic orthodox seeds were described for C. echinata and endospermic orthodox seeds for C. ferrea ). Embryo growth in C. ferrea accelerated when the sclerenchyma of the pericarp was developing, whereas embryonic growth in C. echinata was associated with the conclusion of spine and secretory reservoir development in the pericarp. Other features observed included an endothelial layer that secreted mucilage in both species, a nucellar summit, which grew up into the micropyle, and a placental obturator that connected the ovarian tissue to the ovule in C. ferrea . © 2004 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2004, 146 , 57–70.  相似文献

Many naked gametes are produced in each fusiform, male gametangium of Atractomorpha echinata Hoffman and are liberated through irregularly shaped pores in the gametangial wall. They are typically biflagellate, pyriform or fusiform in shape, 6-11 μm long, and only a few micrometers wide. A mature male gamete is characterized by: (i) a nucleus with condensed chromatin and no nucleoli, (ii) a reduced, starch filled chloroplast occupying a posterior position, and (iii) a cup shaped eyespot consisting of a single layer of plastoglobuli. The flagellar apparatus includes two types of flagellar roots alternating in a cruciate pattern. One type consists of two microtubules, while the other consists of microtubules of varying number, usually eight or nine, but rarely as many as eleven. The paired basal bodies are connected anteriorly by a broad, striated distal fiber; there is no dense apical cap as reported in Sphaeroplea sperm. A unique structure, consisting of three layers of small subunits (6–8 nm diameter) arranged in a paracrystalline array, is positioned beneath each basal body. Based on the structure of its male gametes, Atractomorpha clearly demonstrates affinity with the chlorophycean rather than the ulvaphycean line of evolution. Moreover, if phylogenetic affinities for the Sphaeropleaceae are to be sought among other groups of green algae, the Chlorococcales appears the most promising candidate.  相似文献

Hydractinia echinata and Aurelia aurita produce motile larvae which undergo metamorphosis to sessile polyps when induced by external cues. The polyps are found at restricted sites, A. aurita predominantly on rocks close to the shore, H. echinata on shells inhabited by hermit crabs. It has been argued that the differential distribution of the polyps in their natural environment largely reflects the distribution of the natural metamorphosis-inducing cues. In the case of H. echinata, bacteria of the genus Alteromonas were argued to meet these conditions. We found that almost all substrates collected in the littoral to induce metamorphosis in H. echinata, and several bacterial strains isolated from the sea, including the common E. coli, induce metamorphosis efficiently. In A. aurita metamorphosis may be induced by the water–air interface, whereby metamorphosis precedes (final) settlement. Received: 7 December 1998 / Accepted: 8 July 1999  相似文献

Atractomorpha echinata gen. et sp. nov. is described from isolates derived from zygotes present in a dry soil sample obtained from Texas. The new genus is distinguished from Sphaeroplea primarily by its pattern of vegetative growth. While Sphaeroplea is distinctly filamentous with numerous coenocytic cells uniseriately arranged, Atractomorpha grows as individual, multinucleate, spindle-shaped cells with sharply pointed extremities. Such cells may vary considerably in length (25–6000 μm, or more) and normally lack septa. In young, rapidly growing cultures the cells often attain lengths of 300–500 μm, but rarely exceed 1800 μm. The new species is further characterized by: (1) the regular formation of biflagellate zoospores in asexual reproduction, (2)anisogamy (occasionally oogamy) and (3) the size and ornamentation of its zygotes. Variations in vegetative morphology are discussed as are conditions for obtaining gametogenesis.  相似文献

Yeast extract-treated suspension cultures of a new cell line, AK-1, of Glycyrrhiza echinata were induced to produce an isoflavonoid phytoalexin (medicarpin) and metabolites of retrochalcone/flavone pathway (echinatin, licodione, and 7,4′-dihydroxyflavone). From these cells, putative full-length cDNAs encoding cytochrome P450s,(2S)-flavanone 2-hydroxylase and isoflavone 2′-hydroxylase, were cloned.  相似文献

Glycyrrhiza echinata cell-free extract produced isoformononetin by the 7-O-transmethylation of daidzein from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM). When the yeast microsome expressing 2-hydroxyisoflavanone synthase was mixed with the cell-free extract and incubated with liquiritigenin and SAM, formononetin emerged. Furthermore, the cell-free extract yielded formononetin on incubation with 2,7,4′-trihydroxyisoflavanone and SAM. We propose a novel pathway of formononetin biosynthesis involving 2,7,4′-trihydroxyisoflavanone as the methyl acceptor.  相似文献

Two kinds of “group A saponin,” Aa and Ab, are present as the main constituent in soybean seed. The saponin composition and content in F1 and F2 seeds derived from the cross parents of Aa and Ab types were analyzed. The “group A saponin” was of Aa–Ab type in all the F1 seeds, and the ratio of Aa type : Aa–Ab type : Ab type was 1:2:1 in the F2 seeds. From these results, it appears that Aa and Ab were controlled by codominant allelic alternatives at a single locus. An investigation of the saponin composition of the seed hypocotyls of 18 wild lines revealed some lines in which “group A saponin” was absent.  相似文献

An N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc)-specific Ca2+-dependent lectin (C-type lectin), isolated from the marine invertebrate Holothuroidea (Cucumaria echinata), CEL-I, showed potent mitogenic activity toward normal mouse spleen cells. The mitogenic activity of CEL-I, which reached a maximum at 100 μg/ml, was inhibited by GalNAc in a concentration-dependent manner. The mitogenic effect of CEL-I at 10 μg/ml on T cell- enriched splenocytes was at a similar level due to a well-known T cell mitogen, concanavalin A (Con A), at 10 μg/ml. Furthermore, CEL-I evoked a mitogenic response from nude mouse spleen cells, while no significant effects of Con A on this cell population were observed over a wide range of concentrations. These results suggest that CEL-I is a potent mitogenic lectin with the ability to stimulate both T and B cells.  相似文献
