The effect which Cyanophyta have upon the zooplankton varies according to the form of the alga (mucilaginous colonies or filaments) and its abundance. Periodical blooms of Microcystis aeruginosa were not detrimental for the zooplankton, in spite of the fact that copepods, cladocerans and rotifers consume small colonies. High concentrations of Lyngbya limnetica and Oscillatoria limnetica in Lake Valencia, Venezuela, proved to be inhibitory for cladocerans. A total absence of cladocerans was detected when filaments increased.  相似文献

DNA containing structures (nucleoids) were visualized by 4′, 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) fluorescent staining in two groups of cyanophytes (59 filamentous oscillatorialean species and 12 coccal Synechococcus-like organisms) to test the possibility of using nucleoid morphology in cyanophyte taxonomy. The morphology of nucleoids (size, shape, and structure) in oscillatorialean species is specific for individual families. The morphology of the nucleoid in Synechococcus-like species agrees from the proposed separation of the genus Cyanothece from Synechococcus. A much different nucleoid morphology in three species of Cyanothece suggests that these species should be separated into a new genus. On the basis of other characters, the species could be returned to the genus Cyanobacterium. My results indicate that the morphology of nucleoids is a valuable character in the classification of the cyanophytes examined; thus, it is a prospective feature that could be used in the taxonomy of other groups of cyanophytes. Additionally, DAPI staining is not a complicated procedure. The new character is easy to see in samples taken from nature, both living and preserved.  相似文献

Cyanophyte-like prokaryotes are widely presumed to be the progenitors of eukaryote plastids. A few rare protistan species bearing cyanophyte-like cyanelles may represent intermediate stages in the evolution of true organelles. Cyanophyte DNA disposition in the cell, so far as is known from electron microscopy, seems uniform within the group and distinctly different from the several known arrangements of DNA in plastids. Therefore a survey of representative cyanophytes and protistan cyanelles was undertaken to determine whether forms reminiscent of plastids could be found. DNA-specific fluorochromes were utilized, along with epifluorescent microscopy, to study the DNA arrangement in situ in whole cells. Only the endospore (baeocyte)-forming Cyanophyta contained more than one, centrally located DNA skein per cell, and then only for the period just preceding visible baeocyte formation. Such forms might, with modification, presage the “scattered nucleoid” DNA disposition found in plastids of several groups, including Rhodophytes, Cryptophytes, Chlorophytes and higher plants. The DNA arrangement in cyanelles of two protists, Cyanophora and Glaucocystis, appear different from each other and possibly related to, respectively, the cyanophytes Gloeobacter and Synechococcus. Cyanelles of the third protist, Glaucosphaera, like the cells of the unique prokaryote Prochloron, appear to have multiple sites of DNA, somewhat similar to those of the “scattered nucleoid” line of plastid evolution. No obvious precursor of the “ring nucleoid” or other types of plastid DNA conformation was found.  相似文献

During the summer of 1983, cryptophytes, diatoms, cyanophytes, and the dinoflagellate, Ceratium hirundinella were most prominant among the phytoplankton of Eau Galle Reservoir. In the open water, cryptophytes and diatoms peaked in the spring, cyanophytes were most successful in the early summer, and Ceratium was dominant from mid-July until early August. In general, the sequence of events corresponded quite closely to the model of seasonal succession developed by the Plankton Ecology Group of the International Society of Limnology. To a large extent, the same pattern held in four experimental water columns. Departures from the model involved the roles of specific nutrients in diatom and cyanophyte periodicity. Diatoms began to yield to cyanophytes in late spring despite intermittent mixing and silica enrichment. Although capable of buoyancy regulation and thus well adapted to stable water columns, cyanophytes had greater increases in biomass in mixed columns, and in those columns, were most successful during a period of intermittent mixing. Cyanophyte success varied inversely with TN : TP ratios during the period of intermittent mixing, but not subsequently. By mid-July, Ceratium dominated the phytoplankton of every column except that of a mixed column in which conditions favored cyanophytes and large diatom species.  相似文献

Over a period of four years, the seasonal periodicity of dominant phytoplankton species in a shallow, eutrophic Danish lake changed markedly. Cyanophytes prevailed during the summer period of all four years. In the first three years, species of Microcystis, Anabaena and Aphanothece dominated, whereas in the fourth year of investigation, these algae were replaced by Gloeotrichia echinulata (J. E. Smith) Richter and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (L.) Ralfs. The most striking environmental differences in the fourth year as compared with the previous three years, were an increase in tranparency, from about 0.5 meter in 1989–1991 to more than 2 metres preceding the summer maximum in 1992, and a simultaneous occurrence of low oxygen concentrations. A collapse of the fish population was followed by an increased proportion of large Cladocerans in the zooplankton. Improved light conditions at the bottom and grazing pressure from large Cladocerans favoured growth of the large colony forming blue-green algae, Gloeotrichia echinulata and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae. These species germinate from resting spores in the sediment and are able to sustain some growth there before migration to the lake water. The transfer of algal biomass from the bottom sediment to the water phase was accompanied by a marked increase in concentrations of particulate phosphorus and nitrogen in the entire lake.  相似文献

Six unicellular diazotrophic cyanobacteria were isolated from the coast around Singapore. The isolates grew under both light:dark (L:D) cycles and continuous illumination (CL) in media without combined nitrogen and exhibited an ability to fix nitrogen (as measured by acetylene reduction) under aerobic conditions. The cells of all isolates were surrounded by a thick fibrous outer wall layer, and they divided by transverse binary fission. The arrangement of photosynthetic thylakoids was of the dispersed type. Three isolates were identified as form‐genus Gloeothece as cells were divided in a single plane, and the other three isolates were identified as form‐genus Gloeocapsa as cells were divided in multiple planes. Phylogenetic analyses based on the DNA sequences of the genes encoding 16S rRNA and dinitrogenase reductase (nifH) revealed the following: (i) Our six isolates formed a monophyletic cluster. (ii) The monophyletic cluster was subdivided into two phylogenetic groups, which taxonomically corresponded with the form‐genera Gloeothece and Gloeocapsa. However, (iii) a diazotrophic strain of form‐genus Gloeothece, Gloeothece membranacea (Rabenh.) Bornet PCC6501, was not closely related to our isolates, and (iv) some, but not all, diazotrophic unicellular strains of form‐genus Cyanothece were observed to be in a close relationship with our isolates.  相似文献

A long-term phytoplankton study was carried out in the Albufera of Valencia, a shallow hypertrophic lake (surface area 21 km2, mean depth 1 m, total inorganic nitrogen load 155 g m-2 y-1, total inorganic phosphate load 15 g m-2 y-1) from 1980 to 1988. The lake functions as a reservoir for the surrounding rice cultivation. From 1940's to 1988, its phytoplankton assemblage has been altered from a mesotrophic to a hypertrophic character, as consequence of the increasing pollution. For 1980–88, annual variations in the phytoplankton were less pronounced than seasonal changes. The hypertrophic and morphometric features of the lake favoured the stability of the phytoplankton assemblage and chlorophyll a levels during the study period. Seasonal and horizontal distribution of the total phytoplankton abundance and biomass were highly influenced by the hydrological cycle of the lagoon. Compared with other shallow nutrient rich lakes, the Albufera of Valencia is similar to the shallow hypertrophic lakes of the Netherlands.  相似文献

Estuaries are under intense pressure, because of urban developments and water abstraction. Water column characteristics of the Nahoon Estuary were examined in 2014–2015 to identify factors that influenced phytoplankton dynamics. The estuary was found to be saline (~33) and remained well-oxygenated (~6 mg l?1) throughout the current study. During this period, freshwater inflow into the estuary was minimal and chlorophyll a biomass was low (3.6 ± 0.3 µg l?1). Nutrient concentration at Nahoon Estuary showed a linear relationship with salinity, indicative of a conservative behaviour. Phytoplankton dynamics were altered by fluctuations in nutrient levels, not necessarily in response to freshwater inflow. The impact of Nahoon Dam and destructive land-use alongside the Nahoon River decreases freshwater inflow and increases nutrient loading into the estuary. In terms of nutrient loading, the current study showed the importance of microalgae as indicators of the nutrient status of an estuary. The presence of cyanobacteria and high phytoplankton biomass in the upper reaches of the estuary confirms the input of excessive nutrients. The results of the current study clearly show that better management of both the Nahoon River and its catchment is vital to ensure the health of the system.  相似文献

Detrimental and beneficial properties of prokaryoticand eukaryotic microalgae may be qualifications givingthem posibillities for their biotechnologicalutilization. Phycotoxins and related products mayserve as material for useful drugs. Cyanotoxins arean example. Bioassay screening methods are used todetect specific biological activity (e.g. antibioticeffects). A study demonstrating antibacterialproperties among cyanophytes showed that these effectswere caused by substances produced by both toxigenicand non-toxigenic strains. Differences inbiosynthetic activity are influenced by the type ofclones and by the culture conditions (genetic andbiochemical variation). Experience of recentscreening (1997–1998) of compounds from cyanophytes –including 25 species from 14 genera – display thediscovery of more than 30 different antibioticsubstances. The further isolation of newpharmaceuticals from natural resources is becomingdifficult, if not uncommon species of producerorganisms are taken into consideration.  相似文献

以松嫩平原不同程度的典型盐碱化草地为研究对象,于2005年对土壤蓝藻的生态分布进行了为期一年的调查,测定分析了不同土壤类型蓝藻数量,研究了土壤蓝藻生态分布。结果表明,固氮蓝藻有7个属,其中以丝状种类占优势;土壤蓝藻数量和分布受多方面因素的综合影响,不同土壤类型土壤蓝藻的数量不同,轻度盐碱土差异不明显,中度盐碱土和重度盐碱土中土壤蓝藻数量有较大差异;土壤蓝藻的数量与土壤养分尤其是土壤有机质有明显的正相关关系;过度放牧是土壤次生盐渍化的重要原因,导致了轻度盐碱土蓝藻数量大于中度盐碱土大于重度盐碱土。  相似文献
