Gill B.S., Bhattacharyulu Y., Kaur D. and Singh A. 1978. Chemoprophylaxis with tetracycline drugs in the immunisation of cattle against Theileria annulata infection. International Journal for Parasitology8: 467–469. Three-month-old fully susceptible cross-bred calves were immunised against tropical theileriosis by treating 2-tick or 5-tick stabilate-induced Theileria annulata infections, with 1 or 2 doses of long-acting oxytetracycline (Pfizer) at 20 mg/kg body weight injected subcutaneously, or chlortetracycline at 16 mg/kg body weight daily for 8 days given orally. The treatment began on the day of the infection. After 45 days, the recovered calves were given severe 10-tick homologous stabilate challenge. The reactions were evaluated by noting fever, degree of anaemia, severity of the swelling of the regional lymph node, rate of parasitization of lymphocytes in the lymph node, and of erythrocytes in the peripheral circulation. The untreated calves developed a severe form of the disease with typical symptoms, which killed 1 of 4 and 2 of 5 calves receiving 2-tick and 5-tick stabilates, respectively. A total of 30 treated calves reacted mildly or not at all. Both the treated and untreated, recovered calves resisted completely the challenge infection which killed 3 of 4 susceptible controls. The effect of 1 dose of long-acting oxytetracycline was equal to that of 8 daily treatments with chlortetracycline; 2 doses of the oxytetracycline suppressed almost all clinical responses at immunisation.  相似文献

The status of Dirofilaria immitis infection was assessed in pet dogs of Busan, Korea, and chemoprophylactic effects of microfilaricidal medication were evaluated. A total of 294 pet dogs older than 6 mo were examined, 217 of which had been maintained indoors, and 77 had been kept outdoors. The SnapR kit and direct microscopic examinations of the peripheral blood were used. The mean overall parasite positive rates were 10.2% and 6.5%, respectively. Outdoor dogs evidenced adult worm infection rate of 31.2% and microfilaria infection rate of 18.2%. The indoor dogs, however, evidenced adult worm infection rate of 2.8% and microfilaria infection rate of 2.3%. The prevalence in males was more than 2 times that of females. The changing pattern of infection rates by age evidenced a gradual increase, from 2- to 6-year-old dogs, after which, a decrease in infection rates was noted. With regard to chemoprophylaxis, the infection rates of complete and incomplete chemoprophylaxis groups were found to be 2-3 times lower than that of the non-chemoprophylaxis group. The results of the present study indicate that the risk of exposure to D. immitis in pet dogs is quite high, particularly in male outdoor dogs, and chemoprophylactic measures were quite effective.  相似文献

Azole antifungals act by inhibiting the activity of a lanosterol demethylase involved in the generation of the ergosterol of the cellular membrane of fungi. These drugs could also have action on other yeast components, like secreted aspartyl proteases. We demonstrate in this study that the in vitro secretion of a metallopeptidase could be modified during the growth of Candida albicans with subinhibitory concentrations of some azoles. Eight isolates of this yeast have been cultivated in presence of MIC, MIC/2 and MIC/4 of voriconazole, fluconazole and itraconazole. The presence of voriconazole and fluconazole decreased the secretion of the metallopeptidase in the culture medium, whereas itraconazole increased this secretion for three isolates. This study points to the fact that some antifungals, given in prophylaxis, could act in an unfavourable way on some potential factors of pathogenicity.  相似文献
