Partial homeobox gene fragments were amplified from Patiriella exigua genomic DNA by PCR using degenerate primers. The primers spanned a region of 82 nucleotides within the homeobox, encompassing amino acids 21–47 of the homeodomain. The deduced amino acid sequences of the seven Hox gene sequences plus one Xlox-type gene sequence from P. exigua are presented and compared with similar sequences from other organisms. This work is a preliminary step in the analysis of the evolution of development in the Patiriella species group and the roles of Hox gene expression therein.  相似文献

本文报道1例激素耐药型肾病综合征儿童合并星形诺卡菌(Nocardia asteroides,N.asteroides)脑脓肿。患儿,男性,8岁,临床诊断为原发性肾病综合征(激素耐药型),病理诊断为局灶节段性肾小球硬化症(经典型)。肾穿后第4天患儿出现持续高热、抽搐,时有头痛,抗感染、抗凝治疗效果不佳。复查颅脑磁共振成像(magnetic resonance imaging,MRI)提示多发脑脓肿。头颅脓肿液经穿刺后培养显示为星形诺卡菌感染。予以多种抗生素联合糖皮质激素等治疗2个月,患儿体温正常,头痛缓解,脑脓肿范围明显缩小。因此,肾病综合征患儿在应用激素及免疫抑制剂治疗过程中如出现化脓性炎症,常规抗生素疗效差,应积极寻找病原,高度警惕诺卡菌病及其他机会性感染的可能。  相似文献

At one spectrum extreme, Astrobiology conjectures that for exoplanets with Goldilocks conditions, terrestrial-like life is inevitable. Moreover, it is envisaged that via panspermia, terrestrial-like life and its precursors are transferred among galaxies, stars, and within solar systems via transiting comets, asteroids, and planetoids. In addition, expelled stars, which have solar systems, it is inferred, transfer life as well. However, at the other extreme, we propose a paradigm shift that on some planets, subject to non- Goldilocks conditions, metal machine life could arise, ab initio, and evolve viruses, intelligence, and civilizations, conjointly. Accordingly, intelligent mechanized civilizations could readily and efficiently commence space exploration. Furthermore, as a counter paradigm shift, such civilizations could experiment and produce non-metallic life, based on carbon and other non-metal elements, under suitable conditions, related to Goldilocks life. Even a single example of validated interstellar or intergalactic communication received on the Earth would support the existence of life elsewhere. However, the communication platform should not be restricted to electromagnetic radiation. Other platforms should be included as well - one such example, which would require sophisticated technology, is neutrino communication. This is the case for any advanced civilization, be it metal-machine based, biological-based, and carbon-based. In sum, civilizations based on machine life, would be highly productive due to the longevity and hardiness of machine life. However, significant caveats are raised in this brief report, because possibly dissimilar psychologies and intelligence may lead to conflicts between metal machine life and biological life, inter-paradigm conflict.  相似文献

Organisms have limited resources available to invest in reproduction, causing a trade‐off between the number and size of offspring. One consequence of this trade‐off is the evolution of disparate egg sizes and, by extension, developmental modes. In particular, echinoid echinoderms (sea urchins and sand dollars) have been widely used to experimentally manipulate how changes in egg size affect development. Here, we test the generality of the echinoid results by (a) using laser ablations of blastomeres to experimentally reduce embryo energy in the asteroid echinoderms (sea stars), Pisaster ochraceus and Asterias forbesi and (b) comparing naturally produced, variably sized eggs (1.7‐fold volume difference between large and small eggs) in A. forbesi. In P. ochraceus and A. forbesi, there were no significant differences between juveniles from both experimentally reduced embryos and naturally produced eggs of variable size. However, in both embryo reduction and egg size variation experiments, simultaneous reductions in larval food had a significant and large effect on larval and juvenile development. These results indicate that (a) food levels are more important than embryo energy or egg size in determining larval and juvenile quality in sea stars and (b) the relative importance of embryo energy or egg size to fundamental life history parameters (time to and size at metamorphosis) does not appear to be consistent within echinoderms.  相似文献

Examination of the gametogenic cycle of the deep-sea Goniasterid starfish Paragonaster subtilis and Pseudarchaster parelii suggests that accessory cell activity takes place in a meshwork surrounding the developing oocyte. This meshwork develops as vitellogenesis proceeds and reaches a maximum thickness of 150 μm. Accessory cell activity is distinctly different from that observed in deep-sea Astropectinid and Benthopectinid starfish, suggesting parallel evolution in these phanerozoan asteroids.  相似文献

Summary

Six species of echinoderms were observed spawning (1 holothuroid, 1 echinoid, 4 asteroids) during a single 40 min dive to 10 to 18 m depth in Barkley Sound, Vancouver Island, on the afternoon of 9 August 1987, the day after the full moon. Most of the spawning animals were not close to conspecific individuals. None were observed spawning the following day. Published reports indicate that it is not uncommon for widely scattered individuals of echinoderms to broadcast spawn in the field. Fertilization success often may be low. Moreover, simultaneous spawning by different species, as we and others have observed, indicates that the incidence of hybridization (either lethal or viable) could be high and have important consequences to the biology of the species involved.  相似文献
