Background Pediatric hepatic angiosarcoma is a rare condition in children with poor prognosis. Microscopically this neoplasm has a particular 'Kaposi-form' arrangement. Hemangiosarcoma in non-human primates is a rare finding.
Methods Gross and microscopic examination of a 3-year-old rhesus were performed. Immunohistochemistry was used to characterize the hepatic hemangiosarcoma.
Results The gross necropsy revealed hemoabdomen and a 4 × 3 × 3 cm mass in the liver with multiple smaller masses throughout the hepatic parenchyma. Histopathology confirmed a poorly differentiated hemangiosarcoma. Other organs submitted were free of metastases.
Conclusions Hemangiosarcoma in non-human primates has been rarely reported. Diagnosis was confirmed by expression of endothelial-specific markers CD31 and vWF by immunohistochemistry. Due to the young age of this monkey and the particular solid pattern throughout the mass this neoplasm resembles pediatric hepatic angiosarcoma in humans. 相似文献

Vascular diseases span diverse pathology, but frequently arise from aberrant signaling attributed to specific membrane‐associated molecules, particularly the Eph‐ephrin family. Originally recognized as markers of embryonic vessel identity, Eph receptors and their membrane‐associated ligands, ephrins, are now known to have a range of vital functions in vascular physiology. Interactions of Ephs with ephrins at cell‐to‐cell interfaces promote a variety of cellular responses such as repulsion, adhesion, attraction, and migration, and frequently occur during organ development, including vessel formation. Elaborate coordination of Eph‐ and ephrin‐related signaling among different cell populations is required for proper formation of the embryonic vessel network. There is growing evidence supporting the idea that Eph and ephrin proteins also have postnatal interactions with a number of other membrane‐associated signal transduction pathways, coordinating translation of environmental signals into cells. This article provides an overview of membrane‐bound signaling mechanisms that define vascular identity in both the embryo and the adult, focusing on Eph‐ and ephrin‐related signaling. We also discuss the role and clinical significance of this signaling system in normal organ development, neoplasms, and vascular pathologies. BackgroundAngiosarcoma may rarely complicate radiotherapy of breast cancer. This so-called radiation-induced angiosarcoma (RIAS) occurs in less than 0.3% of patients that underwent breast conservation surgeries, usually years after completion of radiotherapy.Case presentationwe introduce two cases of invasive ductal carcinoma who underwent lumpectomy and accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) as an alternative protocol to whole breast irradiation (WBI). They received adjuvant partial breast radiotherapy on tumor cavity for a total dose of 38.5 Gy in 10 fractions in 5 days using 3D-external-beam RT. In both cases, RIAS occurred eight years after radiotherapy, in the sub-cicatricial area in one patient and outside the irradiated area in the other one. They both underwent radical surgery and chemotherapy was performed in one patient.DiscussionThe underlying mechanism for development of RIAS is not well known, but its incidence seems to be increasing. RIAS after partial breast irradiation is very rare and has been reported in two cases so far. As it may be suggested in case 2, it is still a matter of debate if the risk of radiation-induced sarcoma is radiation-dose dependent. Although mastectomy is considered as a standard treatment, choice of treatment should be made according to the patient’s specifications.ConclusionThere are very few studies in the literature that report RIAS after APBI. Present study is the only one reporting two cases after the external 3D technique APBI. Prognosis of RIAS remains poor. Only a careful evaluation in a multidisciplinary context can offer to the patients the best result in terms of local control and survival. 相似文献

The tumor suppressor gene p53 has been identified as the most frequent target of genetic alterations in human cancers. Vinyl chloride, a known human carcinogen that induces the rare sentinel neoplasm angiosarcoma of the liver, has been associated with specific A T transversions at the first base of codons 249 and 255 of the p53 gene. These mutations result in an ArgTrp amino acid substitution at residue 249 and an IlePhe amino acid substitution at residue 255 in a highly conserved region in the DNA-binding core domain of the p53 protein. To determine the effects of these substitutions on the three-dimensional structure of the p53 protein, we have performed molecular dynamics calculations on this core domain of the wild-type and the Trp-249 and Phe-255 mutants to compute the average structures of each of the three forms. Comparisons of the computed average structures show that both mutants differ substantially from the wild-type structure in certain common, discrete regions. One of these regions (residues 204–217) contains the epitope for the monoclonal antibody PAb240, which is concealed in the wild-type structure but accessible in both mutant structures. In order to confirm this conformational shift, tumor tissue and serum from vinyl chloride-exposed individuals with angiosarcomas of the liver were examined by immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Individuals with tumors that contained the p53 mutations were found to have detectable mutant p53 protein in their tumor tissue and serum, whereas individuals with tumors without mutations and normal controls did not. 相似文献

?. Pohar‐Marin?ek and J. Lamovec Angiosarcoma in FNA smears: diagnostic accuracy, morphology, immunocytochemistry and differential diagnoses Objective: The aim of our study was to analyse the diagnostic accuracy in recognizing angiosarcoma from fine needle aspiration (FNA) samples and to determine morphological features of angiosarcoma in cytology. Methods: FNA samples from 18 histologically confirmed angiosarcomas obtained between 1985 and 2009 were included in the study. Original cytological diagnoses were retrieved, smears reviewed and morphological features analysed: cellularity, smear pattern, cell morphology, contents of background. Outcome of immunocytochemistry was noted and additional reactions performed if material was available. Results: There were 13 primary angiosarcomas and five recurrent tumours; nine tumours were epithelioid. Twelve tumours were cytologically diagnosed as malignant, three as suspicious and three were judged unsatisfactory. Only two primary tumours were diagnosed as vascular. According to morphology, tumours were divided into those with predominantly epithelioid cells and those with predominantly spindle cells. Within these two groups were variations due to grade of tumour. Cytomorphology did not correlate well with histology in mixed and spindle cell types of angiosarcomas. Immunocytochemistry was applied in seven cases, specific vascular marker CD31 only twice at the time of diagnosis and three times retrospectively. Conclusions: Angiosarcomas are difficult to recognize on FNA smears when they lack the typical dual, spindle and epithelioid cell population and when they occur in internal organs where carcinomas are more common. Very few reliable data are available concerning specificity of CD31 on cytological material. 相似文献

We have studied 12 cutaneous vascular tumours by means of fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC): six capillary haemangiomas, one cavernous haemangioma, one Masson's pseudo-angiosarcoma, two angiosarcomas, one benign haemangioendothelioma and one glomus tumour. We describe the main cytopathological findings and we discuss the differential diagnosis in each case. We consider that the cytopathological findings of the above lesions, evaluated in the context of the clinical findings, are sufficiently characteristic for us to be able to make a definitive diagnosis. We believe that FNAC can play an important part in the diagnosis and therapeutic planning of these tumours. 相似文献
