Abstract: An increasing body of evidence suggests that in plants, as in vertebrates, biologically active natriuretic peptide (NP) hormones play an important role in the regulation of the osmotic and ionic balance. The evidence includes isolation and immunoaffinity purification of biologically active natriuretic peptide analogues (irPNP) from ivy that promoted stomatal opening and specifically, rapidly and transiently increased cGMP levels in root conductive tissue. In this study we demonstrate that I125 -rat atrial natriuretic peptide (rANP) binds to plasma membranes from leaf and stem tissue of Tradescantia multiflora and importantly, both unlabelled rANP and irPNP can competitively displace that binding. In addition, tissue section autoradiography reveals specific in situ binding of I125 -rANP to leaf and stem tissue. The findings are consistent with the presence of a biologically active NP system in plants and suggest that NPs signal through a dedicated receptor system. 相似文献

Leaf aging and senescence in Clusia multiflora H.B.K. was investigated by artificial treatments, such as floating leaf discs on water in darkness, or darkening leaves attached
to the parent plant in situ in trees living in a tropical cloud forest. In both cases several parameters modified by age were
evaluated such as nitrogen levels, chlorophyll content, succulence and carbohydrates levels. A prolonged senescence (nearly
3 months in floating leaf discs) was observed, contrasting with species such as Heliocarpus americanus (5 days) and Cecropia palmatisecta (20 days), characterized by low values of leaf weight per area, but similar to species with high leaf weight per area and
with high levels of organic acids such as Clusia minor and Fourcroya humboldtiana, where acids may act as a reserve of C and energy. After 30 days in darkness C. multiflora leaf samples collected in the field did not show differences in comparison to non-darkened opposite leaves with respect to
chlorophyll, titratable protons and carbohydrates, and leaves performed photosynthesis after 2 months in darkness. The effect
of age in leaves was evaluated in a gradient of leaves, sampled at different positions from the apex and ranging in age from
15 days to 2 years old. The study of senescence in tropical wild plants is uncommon, but it is important knowledge for understanding
foliar development, and response to internal rather than environmental regulation in climates where seasons are not strongly
marked as is the case in the tropical mountain forest, where C. multiflora constitutes an important component in the early successional vegetation.

- Enantiostyly is a floral polymorphism in which two floral forms in the same species differ in deflection of the stigma to right or left position. In monomorphic enantiostylous plants, flowers of the two morphs occur within the same individual, usually in the same proportion. In self‐compatible species the function of monomorphic enantiostyly is proposed to increase outcrossing rates and offer a reproductive advantage under pollination limitation. Enantiostylous species are usually self‐compatible and show heteranthery, with poricide anthers and pollen as pollinator reward; however, there are families, such as Vochysiaceae, that have different characteristics.
- We analysed the reproductive system and pollination biology of Qualea parviflora and Q. multiflora, two enantiostylous species from the Brazilian Cerrado that have specific morphological and physiological traits. For this, we characterized flower traits, performed hand pollinations and studied floral visitors.
- We found no differences between morphs in the proportion of flowers, nectar produced or its concentration, pollen quantity and fruit set. Both species were self‐incompatible and quite generalist regarding floral visitors.
- Enantiostyly in self‐incompatible plants seems to confer a reproductive advantage by reducing self‐interference resulting from stigma clogging. This novel result helps to expand our knowledge on this complex floral polymorphism and opens new avenues for future research on this topic.

Measurements and observations of pollen grains of varying structure before and after dehiscence of the anther sac illustrate large magnitudes of harmomegathic changes in volume and shape. Such changes are compared for colpate, porate, and colporate grains, and it is suggested that the nature of the harmomegathal action may serve to distinguish colpi or furrows from pores. Consideration of the requirement to allow harmomegathy while preventing wall collapse may provide at least partial explanation for evolution of the internal structure and external sculpturing of pollen grain walls. 相似文献

Fourteen phenolic derivatives including two new compounds (1, 2), one new natural product (10) and eleven known ones (3 - 9 and 11–14) were obtained from the roots of Fallopia multiflora var. ciliinervis. The structures were determined using IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and the absolute configuration of the new structure (2) was deduced by ECD experiments. All of the isolated compounds were assayed for their cytotoxic activities against three tumor cell lines (A549, HCT116 and SW620) and the results showed that compounds 12-14 showed cytotoxicities against A549 cells while compounds 10 and 11 showed cytotoxicities against SW620 cells. 相似文献

Abstract. Question: Does the influence of plant canopy on seedling establishment interact with climate conditions, and particularly, do intensified drought conditions, enhance a positive effect of the vegetation canopy on seedlings in Mediterranean‐type ecosystems. Location: Mediterranean shrubland near Barcelona, Spain at 210 m a.s.l. Methods: Over the course of four years we recorded seedling emergence and survival in open areas and below vegetation under control, drier and warmer experimental climatic conditions. Results: Seedling emergence is more sensitive to climate conditions than later stages of growth. When considering the whole set of species, the total number of established seedlings at the end of the experiment was lower in the drought and warming stands than in control ones, and vegetation canopy increased the number of these seedlings in the drought stands. Drought reduced seedling emergence but not warming, while the interaction between climate treatments and vegetation canopy was not significant. Seedling survival was lower in the warming treatment than in the control. Under drought conditions, vegetation canopy increased seedling emergence of the dominant Globularia alypum. In control stands, vegetation canopy reduced their survival. Vegetation canopy increased the survival of the dominant Erica multiflora in warming stands, and it reduced the survival of G alypum in drought stands. No significant effects of drought and warming were observed in the seed rain of these two species. Conclusions: The balance of the facilitation‐competition interactions between vegetation canopy and seedling establishment in Mediterranean‐type ecosystems determined by water availability, and drought conditions enhance the positive effect of vegetation canopy. This interaction is species‐specific and shows important between‐year variability. 相似文献
