Occurrence of Cladocera (Crustacea) in subterranean waters in Yugoslavia   总被引:4,自引:4,他引:0
Contrary to some localities in France and Spain, Cladocera occur in hypogean waters in Yugoslavia very sporadically. Beside the stygobitic species, Alona hercegovinae from caves and Alona smirnovi from interstitial waters, particularly some other Chydoridae seem to be suited for hypogean life. Chydorus sphaericus, reputed as one of the most euryoecious cladocerans, occurs also the deepest in interstitial waters as well as in caves. Other species, found in hypogean waters are Simocephalus vetulus, Ilyocryptus sordidus, Eurycercus lamellatus, Chydorus ovalis, Leydigia leydigi, Acroperus harpae and Biapertura affnis.  相似文献

Thymectomized, lethally irradiated mice reconstituted with syngeneic bone marrow cells are tolerant to xenogeneic Yoshida ascites sarcoma (YAS). The tolerance was abolished by an injection of syngeneic normal spleen, thymus, or lymph node cells given simultaneously with YAS. Allogeneic and semiallogeneic spleen cells were ineffective. The YAS-rejecting mice produced specific anti-tumor antibodies. The serum of these mice transferred to tolerant T-cell-deficient mice protected the latter from inoculated YAS cells. These serum-protected mice were not able to resist the reinoculum of the tumor cells as the mice restored with lymphoid cells did. The latter mice rejected the YAS at the time when donor cells were practically absent in their lymphoid tissue. The low effective ratio of injected syngeneic lymphoid to tumor cells, efficiency of injected thymus cells, and other data led to the conclusion that transferred lymphoid cells did not act directly on tumor cells but through cooperation with host lymphoid cells. The cooperation of donor T- and host B-lymphocytes enabled the activation of the latter, and YAS cells were rejected.  相似文献

Two interesting chydorid Cladocera were found in caves of Hercegovina and are described here. The pantropical Alona diaphana King, 1853 was already known in this part of Europe, but was found in a cave environment for the first time. Alona hercegovinae n. sp. is an eyeless and stygobiontic species, and was found in three caves.  相似文献

The investigations of Anostraca, Notostraca and Conchostraca in Yugoslavia began after a great delay compared with other European countries. Intensive systematic investigations date back only to the 1970s.To date, 19 species have been recorded. All species, with the exception of Artemia salina, are faunal elements of the Pannonian region. Seven species, including Artemia salina, Branchinecta orientalis, Branchipus serbicus, Leptestheria dahalacensis, Limnadia lenticularis, Imnadia cristata and Imnadia panonica are known from single localities. Six species including Branchinecta ferox, Chirocephalus brevipalpis, Chirocephalus carnuntanus, Lepidurus apus, Eoleptestheria spinosa and Imnadia banatica have restricted distributions. Streptocephalus torvicornis and Cyzicus tetracerus are known from several localities, while Branchipus schaefferi, Chirocephalus diaphanus, Triops cancriformis and Leptestheria saetosaare common. Large branchiopods are mainly confined to anthropogenic landscapes, especially in the northern part of the country. Rare species inhabiting a single pond, or those with rather restricted distributions, are the most endangered and such species account for about 70% of the fauna. Limnadia lenticularis, Imnadia cristata and I. panonica have not been found for more than 20 years and they are probably extinct in Yugoslavia. Branchipus serbicus, Imnadia cristata and panonica have not been documented since being originally described. Eoleptestheria spinosa is currently the most endangered species since it only appears irregularly in small populations. At present, Branchinecta ferox, Chirocephalus carnuntanus and Imnadia banatica are the safest of the rare species as they regularly appear in large numbers. There are no large branchiopods on the List of protected animals in Yugoslavia. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The genus Branchinecta Verrill, 1869 is represented in Yugoslavia by two species: Branchinecta ferox (Milne-Edwards, 1840) and Branchinecta orientalis G.O. Sars, 1901. The first species was collected in the steppe-like province of Banat, Pannonian Lowland, and in the lowland around the Skadar Lake, Montenegro, the second only in the province of Banat. On the basis of rich material of both species, a detailed study of the most essential morphological characters has been carried out and comparisons have been made with data in the literature. In B. ferox, significant morphological deviations are not found, whereas, in B. orientalis, essential features are clearly ascertained which were previously unknown or were not stated with sufficient precision. B. ferox is known to appear in small, temporary, natronsoda water rainpools, while B. orientalis has been found in a large temporary inundation pool with a high content of natronsoda and salt in the water.  相似文献

Isolation by distance in Middle Dalmatia-Yugoslavia   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Parameters of Malécot's isolation-by-distance model are estimated for biological (anthropometric head and body dimensions, morphometric dimensions of metacarpal bones, quantitative and qualitative dermatoglyphic traits, and physiological/cardiorespiratory/variables) and linguistic distances and migrational kinship on the island of Korcula and the Peljesac peninsula in Middle Dalmatia, Croatia, Yugoslavia. Resulting parameters and the fit of the model are compared, for both regions, as well as with results of similar analysis in other parts of the world. The fit of the model is highly significant for migrational kinship and linguistic distances and less so for biological traits. Differences between these two populations, which live under basically similar ecological conditions, are explained by variation in biological and sociocultural history.  相似文献

Fossil hominid remains dating to the Upper Pleistocene in Yugoslavia are reviewed. Particular emphasis is placed on the assessment of a hominid frontal from the site of Velika Pe?ina in northwestern Croatia. This specimen represents the earliest absolutely-dated hominid associated with the Upper Paleolithic in Europe. Also the hominid material from the site of Veternica is discussed, and data are presented on the new remains from ?andalja. It is concluded that no Neandertal remains, except for Krapina, have been found in Yugoslavia.  相似文献

The effect of aspirin administration and presumed blockade of prostaglandin synthesis on renal sodium excretion, plasma and extracellular fluid volumes, and blood pressure were examined in rats on a high sodium intake. After acute salt loading aspirin treated rats showed an impaired sodium excretion, while no changes in glomerular filtration rate were observed. In chronically loaded rats (7 weeks) administration of aspirin induced significant increases in both plasma and extracellular fluid volume, but no significant changes in blood pressure were found. The results are consistent with the hypothesis that prostaglandins mediate renal sodium excretion and therefore participate in extracellular fluid volume regulation.  相似文献

While the question of race has been largely underexplored in the study of postsocialist Europe, the logic of coloniality remains at the heart of Europeanness, complicating the assumption that migrants from the region only encounter racial difference once they arrive in a “multicultural” society. The article contributes to recent debates on racializing Central and East European studies as well as the literature on migrant encounters with difference by examining the articulations of “race” and coloniality among migrants from former Yugoslavia in Britain. On the one hand, interactions with fellow migrants are frequently imbued with racialized hierarchies that equate Europeanness with whiteness and modernity. On the other hand, the history of Yugoslav solidarity with decolonizing nations provides an alternative archive that refutes claims of British “openness” and recognizes unexpected forms of intimacy, highlighting a genealogy of encounter that extends the spatiotemporal scope of debates about migrants’ responses to racialized difference.  相似文献
