Single crystals were grown from affinity-purified stinging nettle lectin and from its complex with the specific trisaccharide NN′N″ -triacetylchitotriose by vapor diffusion at room temperature. The lectin crystallizes in space group P212121 with unit cell dimensions a = 54.3 (1) Å, b = 62.2 (1) Å, and c = 92.4 (2) Å, and diffracts to 3.0 Å resolution. The asymmetric unit contains three lectin monomers. The crystals of the lectin-trisaccharide complex have space group P212121 with cell constants a = 37.69 (4) Å, b = 48.97 (6) Å, and c = 57.32 (4) Å. These crystals diffract to at least 2.0 Å resolution and the asymmetric unit contains one lectin monomer. A three-dimensional X-ray structure determination is on its way. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc. 相似文献

广东鼎湖山季风常绿阔叶林的主要优势乔木树种荷木和黧蒴幼苗生长于自然光照和人工调节CO2浓度为500±50μl·L-1或空气CO2(350μl·L-1)的气罩中3个月。高CO2浓度下生长的黧蒴和荷木植株总干物质量分别增加26.6%和16.6%,根部增加量最大,地上部分所占的比例降低,根冠比上升,基径增大而株高降低。高CO2浓度下生长的叶片密度及比叶重增加,叶肉细胞间隙体积减少。单位干重的黧蒴叶片可溶性糖含量、全碳、磷、钾含量在高CO2浓度下稍为下降,果糖、葡萄糖、蔗糖、全氮、镁含量及N/C比明显降低。而全钙含量无明显变化。 相似文献

This study was designed to investigate the effects of Nigella sativa L. (NS), known as black seed, or/and Urtica dioica L. (UD), known as stinging nettle root, treatments on serum Na, K, Cl, and Ca levels and some hematological values of CCl4-treated rats. Sixty healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 250–300 g, were randomly allotted into 1 of 4 experimental
groups: A (CCl4-only treated), B (CCl4+UD treated), C (CCl4+NS treated), and D (CCl4+UD+NS treated), each containing 15 animals. All groups received CCl4 (0.8 mL/kg of body weight, subcutaneously, twice a week for 90 d starting d 1). In addition, B, C, and D groups also received
the daily ip injection of 0.2 mL/kg NS and/or 2 mL/kg UD oils for 45 d starting d 46. Group A, on the other hand, received
only 2 mL/kg normal saline solution for 45 d starting d 46. Blood samples for the biochemical analysis were taken by cardiac
puncture from five randomly chosen rats in each treatment group at the beginning, d 45, and d 90 of the experiment. The CCl4 treatment for 45 d significantly (p<0.05) increased the serum K and Ca and decreased (p<0.05) the red blood cell count (RBC), white blood cell count (WBC), packed cell volume (PCV), and Hb levels without changing (p>0.05) the serum Na and Cl levels. NS or UD treatments (alone or combination) for 45 d starting d 46 significantly (p<0.05) decreased the elevated serum K and Ca levels and also increased (p<0.05) the reduced RBC, WBC, PCV, and Hb levels. It is concluded that NS and/or UD treatments might ameliorate the CCl4-induced disturbances of anemia, some minerals, and body’s defense mechanism in CCl4-treated rats. 相似文献

The interaction between Urtica dioica agglutinin (UDA) and N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) and its (1-4)-linked oligomers was studied by fluorescence titration and isothermal titration microcalorimetry. UDA possesses one significant binding site that can be measured calorimetrically. This site is composed of three subsites, each subsite accommodating one GlcNAc residue. The interaction is enthalpically driven, and the binding area of UDA is characterized by a H of interaction for a given oligosaccharide considerably smaller than that of wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), despite the fact that they both belong to a family of proteins composed entirely of hevein domains. Relatively high Cp values of the UDA-carbohydrate interactions and more favorable entropy term compared to WGA suggest that binding of the carbohydrate ligands by UDA has a higher hydrophobic component than that of WGA. 相似文献

Male and female flowering plants of the dioecious Urtica dioica occur in approximately equal numbers in our study area on the coastal sand dunes of Meijendel. The seed sex ratio (SSR, fraction of males) collected from female plants in the field varied between 0.05 and 0.76, and differed significantly between maternal parents. After one generation of selection for either high or low SSR, female plants produced seed batches with sex ratios as extreme as 0.08 and 0.73. Natural populations of U. dioica harbour considerable genetic variation in SSR. 相似文献

This study assessed the suitability of two deciduous woody perennials (Salix spp. and Populus spp.) and two summer green herbaceous perennials (Phragmites australis and Urtica dioica) for purification of nutrient enriched wastewater. The main hypothesis tested was that species with a particular trait combination
of high relative growth rate (RGR), low nutrient productivity (A) and high mean residence time (MRT) of nutrients would be most effective in accumulating nutrients. The nitrogen and phosphorus
use efficiency at the whole plant level was analysed. Four treatments comprising two possible phytoremediation substrates
(municipal wastewater and landfill leachate) and two control plant nutrition situations (balanced nutrient solution and pure
water) were applied in four replications to the four plant species. Generally, all four species studied showed a high RGR
and a low P productivity in the balanced nutrient solution treatment, while the opposite (low RGR and high P productivity)
was seen in the phytoremediation substrate and pure water treatments. The general conclusion is that if P is present in marginal
proportions in the wastewater, a vegetation filter with Phragmites would have an advantage since biomass and nutrient accumulation in Phragmites does not decrease as much during phytoremediation as that in deciduous woody perennials. 相似文献

The relative occurrence and seasonal abundance of aphids and their natural enemies were visually assessed between May and July 2005–2006 in four types of habitats located in Gembloux (Namur province, Belgium): green pea, wheat and stinging nettle either planted in or naturally growing in woodland adjacent to these crops. Results showed that: (i) Acyrthosiphon pisum Harris, Sitobion avenae F. and Microlophium carnosum Buckton were the most common aphid species, respectively, on green pea, wheat and stinging nettle either in or near field crops; (ii) stinging nettle and field crops shared several important aphidophagous insect species such as the ladybird Coccinella septempunctata L., hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus De Geer and braconid wasp Aphidius ervi Haliday; (iii) the shared beneficial species were typically recorded earlier on stinging nettles than on crops; and (iv) the spatial occurrence of the invasive ladybird Harmonia axyridis Pallas was distinctly associated with stinging nettles, particularly in 2005. Stinging nettles and field crops partially coincide in time, enabling the movement of natural enemies among them. These findings suggest that the presence of stinging nettles in landscapes seems to enhance the local density of aphidophagous insect communities necessary for aphid biocontrol in field crops. 相似文献

生长于100%、40%和16%自然光下的荷木和黧蒴幼苗叶片稳定碳同位素比(δ13C,-‰),细胞间CO2浓度(Ci)和水分利用效率(WUE)有一定的差别。16%和40%弱光下,δ13C的负值增加-0.54J‰到-0.89‰。Ci增大8.1-13.2μiL-1,WUE则下降6-24%。结果表明,叶片的水分和气体交换特性受生长光强的调节,叶片的δ13C值可反映其生长过程中受光的强弱状况。 相似文献

Roots of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica L.) were sampled at different sites around Basel (Switzerland) and examined under the microscope. They were completely devoid of mycorrhizal structures. Similarly, stinging nettle plants grown in the greenhouse in the presence of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungusGlomus mosseae did not show any signs of mycorrhiza formation. Spread ofG. mosseae through the rhizosphere of stinging nettle plants was inhibited, and application of extracts of stinging nettle roots and rhizomes to hyphal tips ofG. mosseae reduced hyphal growth.Urtica dioica agglutinin, an antifungal protein present in the rhizomes of stinging nettle, inhibited hyphal growth in a similar way as the crude root extract. The possibility thatUrtica dioica agglutinin is at least partially responsible for the inability of stinging nettle to form the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis withG. mosseae is discussed. 相似文献
