Reproduction, studied by oviposition and larval survival, was negatively affected by the thrips‐resistant (TR) phenotype, whereas the offspring's developmental rate did not differ on TR and the thrips‐susceptible (TS) phenotype. While thrips’ behaviour was hardly affected by thrips resistance, a significant preference for TS plants over the TR plants was found in different tests. When released on either a TR or a TS plant, thrips dispersed at significantly higher rates from the TR plants, demonstrating that not only an impeded reproduction, but also a reduced residence time adds to the reported lower thrips numbers on TR plants. 相似文献

The capturing efficiency of four coloured (yellow, green, white and blue) sticky traps, placed at the top, middle and bottom strata of cotton plants, was tested for the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), and its predatory bug, Orius niger (Wolff) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae), as well as spatial distributions of both insects on the plant in years 2006 and 2007. The white coloured trap was the most attractive to F. occidentalis and O. niger in the 2-year study. The blue coloured trap was the least attractive for Orius. The mean numbers of F. occidentalis and O. niger on the top plant parts (flowers and leaves) and in all coloured traps positioned on the upper parts of the plants were greater than those found in the lower two strata. Taylor's power law analysis showed that F. occidentalis and O. niger adults aggregated in the flowers or on the leaves. This study suggests that top flowers could be preferentially sampled to determine population densities of Frankliniella flower thrips and Orius species in cotton, and thus, sticky traps should be placed on the top level of plants. F. occidentalis: O. niger ratios in the flowers varied from 4 to 60 thrips per Orius adult in the three plant strata. In the latitude of Kiev, 80% of Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande 1895) population was caught on the colour traps from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in summer and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in winter. Meanwhile, 10% of the population did not react to the colour traps at all (“passive” individuals), whereas for 20% of the population it was impossible to determine the clear colour with attractive properties. The thrips attracted with blue and yellow color traps, had more massive and variable body parts to be connected with their flight. Their antennae and segment sizes were significantly smaller than compared to the control variant, which could be explained by eyesight domination over other organs of sensory orientation. The indices of heterogeneity of morphological features can be used as evaluation criteria for the adaptive variability and stability of the thrips population. 相似文献

本文研究了西花蓟马Frankliniella occidentalis(Pergande)取食和机械损伤诱导对菜豆抗氧化系统的影响,比较了不同损伤形式诱导的抗氧化酶活力和抗氧化物质含量的变化差异。结果表明,西花蓟马取食和机械损伤均可诱导菜豆叶片内过氧化物酶(POD)、超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)和过氧化氢酶(CAT)3种抗氧化酶活性有不同程度的升高,但两种处理诱导的抗氧化酶活性变化规律不完全相同,各种酶活性达到最高点时间不同,西花蓟马取食对抗氧化酶活力的诱导作用大于机械损伤的。两种处理诱导下的类胡萝卜素的含量变化不大,但不论西花蓟马取食还是机械损伤均导致菜豆叶片内类黄酮和总酚含量整体呈下降趋势,西花蓟马的取食诱导的下降幅度大于机械损伤的。因此,西花蓟马取食诱导明显高于机械损伤对菜豆抗氧化系统的影响。 相似文献

Although critically endangered western ringtail possums (Pseudocheirus occidentalis) have been recorded from a variety of vegetation types in southwestern Australia, the extent to which many of these vegetation types are occupied by the species remains unknown. We conducted spotlight surveys for western ringtail possums between March and April 2018 in Albany, southwestern Australia, to determine the species’ occupancy in 2 vegetation types. Using occupancy models, we demonstrated that sheoak (Allocasuarina fraseriana) woodlands, previously unrecognized as providing western ringtail possum habitat, support the species, although the median probability of their occupancy was lower than in marri (Corymbia calophylla) and eucalypt (Eucalyptus marginata and E. staeri) woodlands. Use of trees and other habitat components by western ringtail possums varied within and between vegetation types. Sheoak woodlands are likely critical for western ringtail possums and given the apparent flexibility in vegetation types used by the species, investigation of the potential value of other vegetation types for this species has conservation merit. © 2019 The Wildlife Society. 相似文献

Do genetic correlations among phenotypic characters reflect developmental organization or functional coadaptation of the characters? We test these hypotheses for the wing melanin pattern of Pieris occidentalis butterflies, by comparing estimated genetic correlations among wing melanin characters with a priori predictions of the developmental organization and the functional (thermoregulatory) organization of melanin pattern. There were significant broad-sense heritabilities and significant genetic correlations for most melanin characters. Matrix correlation tests revealed significant agreement between the observed genetic correlations and both developmental and functional predictions in most cases; this occurred even when the overlap between developmental and functional predictions was eliminated. These results suggest that both developmental organization and functional coadaptation among melanin characters influence the genetic correlation structure of melanin pattern in this species. These results have two important implications for the evolution of melanin pattern in P. occidentalis and other butterflies: 1) most phenotypic variation in pattern may reflect variation among, rather than within, sets of developmentally homologous wing melanin characters; and 2) in a changing selective environment, genetic correlations may retard the disruption of functionally coupled melanin characters, thus affecting the evolutionary response to selection. 相似文献
