The variation of the essential‐oil composition among ten wild populations of Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl (Lamiaceae), collected from different geographical regions of Iran, was assessed by GC‐FID and GC/MS analyses, and their intraspecific chemical variability was determined. Altogether, 49 compounds were identified in the oils, and a relatively high variation in their contents was found. The major compounds of the essential oils were myrcene (0.0–26.2%), limonene (0.0–24.5%), germacrene D (4.2–19.3%), bicyclogermacrene (1.6–18.0%), δ‐cadinene (6.5–16.0%), pulegone (0.0–15.1%), (Z)‐hex‐3‐enyl tiglate (0.0–15.1%), (E)‐caryophyllene (0.0–12.9), α‐zingiberene (0.2–12.2%), and spathulenol (1.6–11.1%). For the determination of the chemotypes and the chemical variability, the essential‐oil components were subjected to cluster analysis (CA). The five different chemotypes characterized were Chemotype I (germacrene D/bicyclogermacrene), Chemotype II (germacrene D/spathulenol), Chemotype III (limonene/δ‐cadinene), Chemotype IV (pulegone), and Chemotype V (α‐zingiberene). The high chemical variation among the populations according to their geographical and bioclimatic distribution imposes that conservation strategies of populations should be made appropriately, taking into account these factors. The in situ and ex situ conservation strategies should concern all populations representing the different chemotypes.  相似文献

Two populations of Stachys recta growing in Italy on ultramafic and calcareous soils have been studied for their essential oils. Although the yields were comparable, the composition of the essential oils differed significantly. Plants growing on ultramafic soil produced mainly non-terpene derivatives (55.7%), of which the most abundant ones were 1-octen-3-ol (38.2%) and (E)-3-hexen-1-ol (5.9%); the terpenes α-cadinol (6.1%) and δ-cadinene (5.6%) were also significantly represented. In contrast, the populations living on calcareous soil produced an essential oil dominated by terpenes (93.8%), with germacrene D (18.8%), β-caryophyllene (17.7%), 1,8-cineole (15.9%) and α-pinene (14.2%) among the main components.  相似文献

The influence of the apical bud on the growth of the lateral buds on subterranean shoots was studied in Stachys sieboldiiMig. and Helianthus rigidus(Gass.) Desv. Removing and damaging the apical parts of subterranean shoots or their treatment with 2% chlorocholine chloride shoot enhanced shoot branching. The response to light of the apical bud was invariably negative: the stolons, which came out or were extracted from the soil, grew back into the ground (negative phototropism). The response to light of lateral buds was autonomous and depended on the conditions of their initiation. The lateral buds developed in darkness manifested negative phototropism when withdrawn from the soil and exposed to the light, whereas the buds developed in the light showed positive phototropism. The author concludes that the concept of apical dominance, thoroughly studied in aboveground shoots, is also valid for subterranean shoots. However, in contrast to the former, in the latter case, the apical bud does not control the growth orientation of the lateral buds.  相似文献

FC3-10 is a Klebsiella spp. specific bacteriophage isolated on a rough mutant (strain KT707, chemotype Rd) of K. pneumoniae C3. The bacteriophage receptor for this phage was shown to be the low-molecular mass lipopolysaccharide (LPS) fraction (LPS-core oligosaccharides), specifically the heptose content of the LPS inner-core. This is the first phage isolated on Klebsiella, the receptor for which is the LPS-core. This phage was unable to plate on Salmonella typhimurium LPS mutants with chemotypes Rd2 or Re showing incomplete or no heptose content on their LPS-core, respectively. Spontaneous phage-resistant mutants from different Klebsiella strains were deep-rough LPS mutants or encapsulated revertants from unencapsulated mutant strains.  相似文献

The oviduct of the anuran Lepidobatrachus laevis contains three morphological regions, each of which contains a histochemically distinct luminal mucosa. In the pars recta, the most anterior portion of the oviduct, there are periodic acid-Schiff base (PAS)-positive simple glands and epithelia. In the pars convoluta, there are alcian blue-positive, combined alcian blue- and PAS-positive and PAS-positive gland types. The most posterior region, the pars uterina, contains alcian blue-positive and alcian blue-negative epithelial cells. Previous work has shown that solubilized egg jelly contains a major 29.7 kDa glycoprotein subunit that was detected in oviduct tissue extracts from the pars convoluta in the present study. Rabbit antisera to the 29.7 kDa egg jelly glycoprotein of L. laevis reacted with the major pars convoluta glycoprotein and there were no immunoreactive components in the pars uterina. The slight immunoreactivity detected at 29.0–37.0 kDa in pars recta extracts is not believed to be the jelly molecule, based on low immunoreactivity and subunit molecular weight measurements. We conclude that the synthesis of the 29.7 kDa egg jelly glycoprotein is restricted to the pars convoluta region of the oviduct.  相似文献

Abstract Prescribed fire is often used to restore grassland systems to presettlement conditions; however, fire also has the potential to facilitate the invasion of exotic plants. Managers of wildlands and nature reserves must decide whether and how to apply prescribed burning to the best advantage in the face of this dilemma. Herbicide is also used to control exotic plants, but interactions between fire and herbicides have not been well studied. Potentilla recta is an exotic plant invading Dancing Prairie Preserve in northwest Montana. We used a complete factorial design with all combinations of spring burn, fall burn, no burn, picloram herbicide, and no herbicide to determine the effects of fire, season of burn, and their interaction with herbicide on the recruitment and population growth of P. recta over a 5‐year period. Recruitment of P. recta was higher in burn plots compared with controls the first year after the fire, but this did not lead to significant population growth in subsequent years, possibly due to drier than normal conditions that occurred most years of the study. Effect of season of burn was variable among years but was higher in fall compared with spring burn plots across all years. Herbicide effectively eliminated P. recta from sample plots for 3–5 years. By the end of the study density of P. recta was greater in herbicide plots that were burned than those that were not. Results suggest that prescribed fire will enhance germination of P. recta, but this will not always lead to increased population growth. Prescribed fire may reduce the long‐term efficacy of herbicide applied to control P. recta and will be most beneficial at Dancing Prairie when conducted in the spring rather than the fall. Results of prescribed fire on exotic plant invasions in semiarid environments will be difficult to predict because they are strongly dependent on stochastic climatic events.  相似文献

Following assimilation of 14CO2 by leaves of Stachys sieboldii, 14C-stachyose is translocated into the tubers. Stachyose is accumulated and stored in the vacuoles of the pith parenchyma. Protoplasts and vacuoles were isolated and the uptake of sugars was examined. Uptake of sucrose and sucrosyl oligosaccharides of the raffinose family by protoplasts was very low compared to glucose. Transport parameters for glucose indicated a carrier mediated transport in the lower concentration range which was superimposed by diffusion at higher concentrations (> 10 mM). The very low sugar uptake by protoplasts and the sparse enzyme activities of stachyose synthase in the storage parenchyma as well as acid invertase and α-galactosidase in the cell walls indicated symplastic unloading of stachyose in the tubers. Experiments on 14C-stachyose uptake by isolated vacuoles confirmed previous observations by Keller (1992). Isolated vacuoles exhibited ATP and PP hydrolysis and were capable of generating a proton gradient across the tonoplast by a V-type H+-ATPase and H+-PPase. This was demonstrated by fluorescence quenching of quinacrine. Fluorescence could be restored by the addition of gramicidin and partly recovered by the addition of stachyose; mannitol, sorbitol and glucose had no effect. Fluorescence recovery depended on the concentration of stachyose and revealed saturation kinetics (Km = 28 mM). Comparable results have been obtained with tonoplast vesicles by Greutert and Keller (1993). Experimental data presented here provide circumstantial evidence for symplastic unloading of stachyose in the tubers of Stachys sieboldii and demonstrate that the stachyose concentration in the cytoplasm of storage parenchyma cells is kept low by active stachyose transport into the vacuoles. The results suggest a stachyose/H+-antiport system.  相似文献
