Résumé Les variations d'abondance des 2 cochenillesPhenacoccus manihoti Matile-Ferrero etFerrisia virgata Cockerell et des 2 prédateurs CoccinellidaeHyperaspis senegalensis hottentotta Mulsant etExochomus flaviventris Mader sont étudiées dans une parcelle de manioc. La colonisation de cette dernière parE. flaviventris est précoce, en présence de faibles niveaux numériques des 2 proies, mais avec une dominance deF. virgata; celle d'H. s. hottentotta intervient un mois plus tard en relation semble-t-il avec la présence d'une population deP. manihoti abondante et jeune. Nos observations font ressortir une dynamique des populations propre à chaque espèce de coccinelle, conditionnée par l'abondance de l'une ou l'autre des proies, la structure des colonies de chaque cochenille et les conditions climatiques (température) qui interviennent en synergie. Ainsi, la réponse numérique deH. s. hottentotta, plus forte que celle d'E. flaviventris, semble en relation plus étroite avecP. manihoti. PourE. flaviventris il appara?t difficile de séparer ce qui revient à chaque espèce de cochenille:F. virgata joue sans doute un r?le important pour son implantation dans les champs, puis sa raréfaction, mais c'est probablementP. manihoti qui permet l'augmentation de ses effectifs.   相似文献

Several marine hybrid zones have been described and studied during the last years. Assessing the movements of extending hybrid zones is central to improve our understanding of evolutionary processes. We have re-examined the hybrid zone between Solea aegyptiaca and Solea senegalensis that was first described 22 years ago in northern Tunisia when introgressed S. senegalensis individuals were found in the Gulf of Tunis, whereas locally caught S. aegyptiaca were genetically pure. Six population samples harvested both inside and outside the area where the two fish species coexist were genotyped for allozymes and exon-primed intron length polymorphism. Both types of markers were congruent and revealed that introgression takes place indeed in both directions. A high introgression level (36.4%) in the Bizerta lagoon and much less outside indicate that this is the main area where hybridization occurs while introgression clines towards the south in S. aegyptiaca and towards the north in S. senegalensis plead in favour of the existence of a unimodal hybrid zone. The higher introgression level calculated in the current study (when compared to 16% reported formerly) and the newly found introgressed S. aegyptiaca in Bizerta lagoon seem to indicate that the genetic exchanges occurring between the two taxa are evolving and not stabilized yet.  相似文献

The present study aimed to deepen the understanding of molecular mechanisms governing the absorption and metabolism of some nutrients, growth and development in larvae of Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) fed with Artemia enriched with Easy Selco© (ES, INVE) or Aquagrow Gold© (AGG, ABN), which mainly differed in their vitamin A (VA) content and fatty acid composition. The expression profile of genes involved in VA metabolism (crbp2, rbp, crabp1), lipid transport (i-fabp, l-fabp), nuclear receptors for VA and fatty acids (rarα1, rxrα, pparβ), growth (igf1, igf2 and their receptor igf1r) and development (bgp) was analyzed at 22, 30 and 38 days post hatching. The main results suggested that the amount of VA absorbed by larvae is controlled at the intestinal level by crbp2 in both groups, preventing excessive accumulation of this vitamin in the target tissues. The stable expression of i-fabp in the ES group with age could cause an excessive fat accumulation in the intestine inducing, in turn, the steatosis found in the liver and vascular system of these specimens. In liver, the regulation of rbp and fabp expression reflected the status of the physiological functions demanding VA and lipids. The findings revealed that dietary composition induced different strategies for VA and lipid absorption and metabolism affecting, in turn, larval development, growth and health.  相似文献

  • 1 African mahogany Khaya senegalensis is a high‐value timber tree. Pilot plantings showed that the fruit‐spotting bug Amblypelta lutescens causes severe damage of the tree in the wet–dry tropics of northern Australia. The weaver ant Oecophylla smaragdina is an efficient biocontrol agent in some horticulture crops. To investigate whether the ants control this pest, field experiments were conducted from April 2006 to January 2009 at two study sites in the Darwin area, Australia. A laboratory experiment was carried out in March 2007 at Berrimah Farm.
  • 2 During the experimental period, in the weaver ant treatments, the overall percentage of trees damaged by the pest was 0–8% at both sites, and the damaged trees were attacked once only. In the treatments without weaver ants, however, the damage level was > 80% at Berrimah Farm and 31–100% at Howard Springs, and the damaged trees were attacked more than once.
  • 3 The mean percentage of trees damaged per monitoring occasion was 0–2.6% in the weaver ant treatments at both sites, whereas, in the treatments without the ants, the damage percentages were 14.2–27.0% at Howard Springs and 28.2–48.6% at Berrimah Farm.
  • 4 Extrafloral nectar of African mahoganies is attractive to weaver ants. Fruit‐spotting bugs only damage the tender parts of flushing shoots and growing tips. Weaver ants live on sugar solution and meat, and they frequently harvest extrafloral nectar on growing shoots, on which they catch nymphs of the pest for their meat supply. The aggressive behaviour of the ants also repels the pest away from flushing shoots.
  • 5 The data suggest that weaver ants were effective biocontrol agents of fruit‐spotting bugs, and the ants can be used to manage the pest on African mahoganies.
  • 6 The present study demonstrates that the introduced African mahogany comprises another major host of the fruit‐spotting bug.

A study of laboratory-reared larvae of Solea solea (Soleidae) and Scophthalmus maximus (Scophthalmidae) indicated that the epicranial portion of the dorsal fin results from the anterior displacement of proximal pterygiophores during ontogeny. The adult epicranial formula is attained early during ontogeny, and the anterior displacement is finalized after the passage of the migrating eye. In both species, the first two proximal pterygiophores fuse to form an erisma that is particularly long and well-developed in Solea. Moreover, in Solea, the neural spine of the second abdominal vertebra curves over the otic region, and the neural arch of the first vertebra remains incomplete. Among the stomach contents of 609 individuals of Solea solea and 1104 of S. senegalensis the main food items of S. solea were Corophium spp. and Hediste diversicolor, and of S. senegalensis were Corophium spp., H. diversicolor and Scrobicularia plana. For both species, the importance of larger prey items in the diet, namely H. diversicolor and Crangon crangon, increased with fish size. Feeding activity of S. solea and S. senegalensis increased in spring and summer. Short-term variations were particularly related to the tidal cycle and the two species fed in intertidal areas. Dietary dierences between the two nursery areas reflected prey availability mainly. Although intra- and interspecific length classes overlapped in diet, potential interspecific competition was probably minimized by a dierential habitat use pattern.  相似文献

The 5′-end of the mitochondrial control region of three Pleuronectiformes from the Adriatic Sea, Platichthys flesus italicus (Adriatic flounder), Solea vulgaris (common sole), and Solea kleini (Klein's sole), was sequenced and compared with that of six other flatfish species from the families Pleuronectidae and Bothidae. The sequence structures of all flatfishes appear very similar and consist of alternate short segments with low, medium, and high rates of nucleotide substitution. Four conserved 19-bp repeats occur at the beginning of the European and Adriatic flounder sequences. The common occurrence of tandem arrays in fish control regions could be related to a stable secondary structure. Molecular phylogenetic relationships among Pleuronectiformes agree well with previous morphologic data at all taxonomic levels. Molecular analyses could therefore contribute to resolving phylogenetic and taxonomic debates within the Pleuronectiformes. Received December 1, 1997; accepted June 30, 1998.  相似文献

Juvenile Solea senegalensis (Senegalese sole) were exposed to freshly collected sediments from three sites of the Sado Estuary (West-Portuguese coast) in 28-day laboratory assays in order to assess the ecological risk from sediment contaminants, by measuring two genotoxicity biomarkers in peripheral blood: the percentage of Erythrocyte Nuclear Abnormalities (ENA) by use of an adaptation of the micronucleus test, and the percentage of DNA strand-breakage (DNA-SB) with the Comet assay. Sediments were surveyed for metallic (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd and Pb) and organic (PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and DDTs (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane)) contaminants. Sediments from site A (farthest from hotspots of contamination) were found to be the least contaminated and weaker inducers of genotoxic damage, whereas sediments from sites B (urban influence) and C (affected by industrial effluents and agricultural runoffs) were responsible for a very significant increase in both ENA and DNA-SB, site B being most contaminated with metals and site C mainly with organic pollutants, especially PAHs and PCBs . Analysis of genotoxic effects showed a strong correlation between the concentrations of PAHs and PCBs and both biomarkers at sampling times T14 and T28, while the amounts of Cu, As, Cd and Pb were less strongly correlated, and at T28 only, with ENA and DNA-SB. These results show that organic contaminants in sediment are stronger and faster acting genotoxic stressors. The results also suggest that metals may have an inhibitory effect on genotoxicity when interacting with organic contaminants, at least during early exposure. ENA and DNA-SB do not show a linear relationship, but a strong correlation exists between the overall increase in genotoxicity caused by exposure to sediment, confirming that they are different, and possibly non-linked effects that respond similarly to exposure. Although the Comet assay showed enhanced sensitivity, the two analyses are complementary and suitable for the biomonitoring of sediment contaminants in a benthic species like S. senegalensis.  相似文献

The strength of competitive and facilitative interactions in plant communities is expected to change along resource gradients. Contrasting theoretical models predict that with increasing abiotic stress, facilitative effects are higher, lower, or similar than those found under more productive conditions. While these predictions have been tested in stressful environments such as arid and alpine ecosystems, they have hardly been tested for more productive African woodlands. We experimentally assessed the strength of tree seedling facilitation by nurse trees in mesic and dry woodlands in Benin, West Africa. We planted seedlings of the drought‐sensitive Afzelia africana and the drought‐tolerant Khaya senegalensis under three microsite conditions (closed woodland, woodland gap, and open fields). Seedling survival was greater within woodlands compared with open fields in both the mesic and dry woodlands. The relative benefits in seedling survival were larger at the dry site, especially for the drought‐sensitive species. Nevertheless, plant interactions became neutral or negative during the dry season in the drier woodland, indicating that the net positive effects may be lost under very stressful abiotic conditions. We conclude that facilitation also occurs in the relatively more productive conditions of African woodlands. Our results underscore the role of environmental variation in space and time, and the stress tolerance of species, in explaining competitive and facilitative interactions within plant communities. This study determined prey consumption in common sole as a function of prey size (0–0.5, 1–1.5, 2–2.5 and 4–5 g), sediment thickness (20 cm and 2 cm) and fish size (50 g, 125 g or 300 g). Prey consumption (in numbers of prey eaten per fish per day) was reduced with increasing prey size and sediment thickness, and was increased with increasing fish size (< .001 for all factors). All 3 factors showed significant two way interactions (< .001) when expressed in numbers of prey eaten. Prey consumption decreased with prey size when prey could not escape by burying (2 cm of sediment thickness) irrespective of fish size. We suggest that increasing effort to ingest and handle larger prey played a role. Prey consumption increased with fish size when prey could not bury (2 cm of sediment thickness). However, when prey was able to bury (at 20 cm sediment thickness) prey consumption was similar irrespective of fish size (< .001 for interaction fish size × sediment). This interaction suggests that with increasing fish size there is an increasing mismatch between foraging adaptation and prey burial depth. This may explain the dominance of crustaceans in the diet of adult common sole in nature, despite the high abundance of polychaetes.  相似文献
