The multivariate phenetic approach to the classification of Salmo spp. samples from Serbia and adjacent regions of western Balkans for 22 continuous external morphological characters suggests the occurrence of the following distinct stocks: West Danubian (Crno Osoje Stream and upper Zeta River) Salmo taleri , marble trout Salmo marmoratus (Trebuščica River), hatchery-reared Atlantic Salmo trutta , Mlava River drainage (Mlava and Krupaja rivers and Buk Stream) trout Salmo cf. trutta , Velika Morava River system (Godljevača, Bela and Resava rivers) trout S. cf. trutta , Ohrid Lake belvica Salmo ohridana and Aegean coastal drainage Salmo macedonicus (Božica River). In contrast to the phenetic similarity, the phylogenetic reconstruction places the Lake Ohrid belvica as part of an unresolved polytomy with other trout groups. Salmo cf. trutta in the Mlava River appears to form the basal group for the trout species in the region. The position of marble trout implies its independent and more recent origin from the West Danubian trout stock.  相似文献

In the River Lobos-Ucero and its tributary the River Avión-Milanos (Duero basin, Old Castile, Central Spain), two limestone streams fed by aquifers, the population of brown trout, as compared with the populations of other European streams, shows a high growth rate, high condition coefficients, short life-span and early age at first maturity. Gonad cycle was also studied. Size distributions of unshed eggs exhibit a dynamic activity with a bi-modal distribution from June onwards, spawning occurred in the last days of November. Fecundity (F) can be predicted from trout length (L, mm) according to the equation: F= –646.47+5.6167 · L. Numbers and standing crop of trout range from 18 to 3903 ind. ha–1 and 3.6 to 452.9 Kg ha–1, reaching higher values in the sites close to the aquifers. Egg production had values of 22.4 and 18.0 eggs m–2 in the Rivers Ucero and Avión-Milanos respectively. Some factors suggested as regulators of these demographical characteristics are discussed in the light of recent literature.  相似文献

Synopsis Age at maturity in male Atlantic salmon parr from landlocked populations in the Watshishou and Musquaro Rivers is significantly greater than in anadromous populations from the same rivers. We conclude that high post-smolt mortality in anadromous stocks is conducive to male parr maturity at an early age. We also suggest that the lower proportion of maturing male parr in landlocked stocks may be related to competition among males for mates and the smaller ultimate size of spawning adult landlocked salmon.  相似文献

Summary The effect of angiotensin infusion on the glomerular ultrastructure of freshwater- and seawater-adapted rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri, has been examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Adaptation of trout to seawater resulted in epithelial podocyte flattening, primary process broadening and apparent loss of foot processes in almost all glomeruli, features which were uncommon in freshwater-adapted trout. Similar changes were induced by infusion of freshwater-adapted animals with angiotensin, suggesting that the renin-angiotensin system plays a role in the modification of glomerular epithelial ultrastructure. Adaptation of trout to seawater also reduced glomerular diameter, but infusion of freshwater-adapted animals with angiotensin did not mirror this effect. Infusion of angiotensin into seawater-adapted animals increased the overall thickness of glomerular basement membrane by increasing the lamina rara interna and lamina densa. This did not occur when freshwater-adapted fish were either infused with angiotensin or adapted to seawater. These findings suggest that other humoral systems are involved in the control of glomerular diameter and basement membrane thickness as part of an integrated response to increased environmental salinity.  相似文献

Summary Resource utilization by cutthroat trout (CT) and Dolly Varden charr (DV) was studied 8 years after experimental transfers from sympatry had established reproducing allopatric populations in two nearby fishless lakes. Allopatric DV significantly increased their utilization of shallow-dwelling zoobenthos, and increased their vertical distribution in comparison to that in sympatry. In contrast, allopatric CT showed little change in the proportions of major prey types utilized, and, if anything, restricted their vertical distribution in comparison to that in sympatry. The results can be explained by the hypothesis that the resource use of DV is strongly influenced by interspecific competition from CT, whereas CT largely remains unaffected by this interaction. An alternative hypothesis, that lake differences can explain the differences in resource use between sympatry and allopatry, was evaluated by comparing food resource availability and other biotic and abiotic characteristics of the three study lakes. None of these could account for the shift in resource use by DV between sympatry and allopatry, but lake differences may explain why allopatric CT showed a restricted habitat use in comparison with their sympatric donor stock. The results of this whole-lake transfer experiment are consistent with earlier reported field and laboratory studies, and suggest that the aggressive dominance of CT is the most important mechanism by which DV are displaced from littoral and near-surface habitats in sympathy with CT.  相似文献

Peripheral nervous system (PNS) myelin from the rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) banded at a density of 0.38 M sucrose. The main myelin proteins consisted of (1) two basic proteins, BPa and BPb (11,500 and 13,000 MW, similar to those of trout central nervous system (CNS) myelin proteins BP1 and BP2), and (2) two glycosylated components, IPb (24,400 MW) and IPc (26,200 MW). IPc comigrated with trout CNS myelin protein IP2 in sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, whereas trout CNS myelin protein IP1 had a lower molecular weight (23,000). Following two-dimensional separation, however, both IPb and IPc from PNS showed two components; the more acidic component of IPc comigrated with IP2 from CNS. PNS tissue autolysis led to the formation of IPa (20,000 MW), consisting of two components in isoelectric focusing of which again the more acidic one comigrated with the CNS autolysis product IP0. Limited enzymatic digestion of isolated IP proteins from PNS and CNS led to closely similar degradation patterns, being most pronounced in the case of IP2 and IPc. Immunoblotting revealed that all IP components from trout PNS and CNS myelins reacted with antibodies to trout IP1 (CNS) and bovine P0 protein (PNS) whereas antibodies to rat PLP (CNS) were entirely unreactive. All BP components from trout PNS and CNS myelins bound to antibodies against human myelin basic protein. On the basis of these studies trout PNS and CNS myelins contain at least one common IP glycoprotein, whereas other members of the IP myelin protein family appear closely related. In the CNS myelin of trout the IP components appear to replace PLP.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Summary Cell junctions in the renal tubule of the fresh-water rainbow trout were studied with thin-section and freeze-fracture techniques. Gap junctions were restricted to the proximal tubule, which is consistent with other vertebrate classes. Segments I and II of the proximal tubule and the collecting tubule/collecting duct system exhibited a well-developed zonula occludens with anastomosing strands. The distal segment showed a narrow zonula occludens composed of few parallel strands. The structure of the occluding junctions along the renal tubule of this teleost displays several similarities with the pattern of the zonulae occludentes in the amphibian and the mammalian nephron. From these observations, in conjunction with available data from other vertebrate classes, it can be concluded that in the proximal tubule the development of a deep and complex zonula occludens is a general feature of cold-blooded vertebrates.  相似文献

Summary Argyrophil fibrils were revealed in pars intermedia chromophobe cells of Salmo irideus. For the light microscopical demonstration of the fibrils a recently developed copper sulphate-silver protein technique for Bouin-fixed hypophyses was used. The fibrils, apparently belonging to one fibrillar system, are found only in limited regions of the cytoplasm. They occur in ring-, loop-, or cracknel shapes in the close vicinity of the rounded nucleus in the chromophobe cell, and continue in linear shape into the cell base or cell apex where they may end near the adjacent basement membrane.Electron microscopically, the fibrils are composed of filaments, 70–90 Å in diameter, which are arranged in parallel. Bundles of filaments are frequently found near the nucleus. In addition to perinuclear filaments, bundles of filaments with tiny offshoots occur in different areas of the cytoplasm, extending sometimes as far as the cell membrane which is located near the basement membrane of the pars intermedia epithelium. In cells with a bi- or trilobular, apparently amitotically dividing, nucleus a fibrillar loop or ring usually surrounds the interlobular part(s) of the nucleus. This relation of the fibrils to the dividing nucleus and their consisting of regularly arranged filaments indicates the significance of the fibrillar system in the chromophobe cell. It is thus suggested that the fibrillar system is involved in the constriction of the nucleus during amitosis. The number of chromophobe cells in which fibrils are light microscopically visible varied greatly among the rainbow trout used.Miss M. C. Wentzel is thanked for her technical assistance, Mr. M. Veenhuis for his advice and excellent help with the preparation of the electron micrographs, and Mr. L. Hoekstra for preparing the final drawings. Mr. N. J. Williams' corrections to the English are gratefully acknowledged.  相似文献

The susceptibility and resistance of hatchery-reared salmon parr, native to the rivers Neva (U.S.S.R. Baltic Sea), Alta (northern Norway) and Lone (western Norway) (both eastern Atlantic Ocean), to Gyrodactylus salaris from Norway, was examined. The level of resistance to the parasite was assessed from counts, made on anaesthetized salmon, ofthe numbers of G. salaris after an initial experimental exposure (2 weeks) to G. salaris-infected salmon. Three experiments, all in water at c. 12° C, were carried out: (1) 50 Alta and 50 Neva salmon, initial mean parasite intensity c. 12; (2) 50 Lone and 50 Neva salmon, initial mean parasite intensity c. 60; (3) 10 Lone and 10 Neva salmon individually isolated, initial intensity one gravid G. salaris . In both the Norwegian salmon stocks, the G. salaris infrapopulations steadily increased during the experimental period of 5 weeks, in contrast to a prominent decline in the Neva salmon stock, after, respectively: (Exp. 1) week 3, average peak intensity 32.6; (Exp. 2) week 2, average peak intensity 58.7; and (Exp. 3) week 3, average peak intensity 6.3. The hatchery-reared Baltic Neva stock demonstrated both an innate and an acquired resistance towards G. salaris , in contrast to the highly susceptible, Norwegian Alta and Lone salmon stocks.  相似文献

Summary Na+, K+ exchanges were studied in isolated hepatocytes of the rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri. Ouabain at 10–4 M produced maximal inhibition (95%) of K+ uptake and enhanced intracellular Na+ accumulation, showing that active fluxes account for a very large proportion of Na+ and K+ exchanges. Inhibition of the Na–K pump by ouabain was significant at low concentrations (10–8 M). When external K+ concentration was reduced from 7 mM to 0.5 mM, half maximum inhibition (IC50) of K+ uptake was obtained at a 22-fold lower concentration of ouabain confirming that ouabain and potassium compete at the same pump site. Time-course analysis of [3H]ouabain binding indicated a two-component kinetics: one component saturable and dependent on K+ concentration in the medium, the other linear and independent of external K+. The ouabain binding site number, determined by Scatchard plots, remained constant (ca. 2.5·105 per cell) and independent of the external K+ concentration (7, 0.5 or 0 mM), while the dissociation constant (KD) decreased from 4.2 M to 7.3 nM when K+ was removed from the Hank's medium. These ouabain binding sites are characterized by an exceptionally low turnover rate (400 min–1), as estimated from ouabain-sensitive K+ flux, in comparison to those described in other cell types of higher vertebrates. At each external K+ concentration studied, the inhibition of K+ uptake and ouabain binding measured as a function of ouabain concentration indicated a strict correlation between the degree of K pump inhibition and the amount of bound glycoside.  相似文献
