The metacopines represent one of the oldest and most important extinct groups of ostracods, with a fossil record from the Mid-Ordovician to the Early Jurassic. Herein, we report the discovery of a representative of the group with three-dimensionally preserved soft parts. The specimen--a male of Cytherellina submagna--was found in the Early Devonian (416 Ma) of Podolia, Ukraine. A branchial plate (Bp) of the cephalic maxillula (Mx), a pair of thoracic appendages (walking legs), a presumed furca (Fu) and a copulatory organ are preserved. The material also includes phosphatized steinkerns with exceptionally preserved marginal pore canals and muscle scars. The morphology of the preserved limbs and valves of C. submagna suggests its relationship with extant Podocopida, particularly with the superfamilies Darwinuloidea and Sigillioidea, which have many similar characteristic features, including a large Bp on the Mx, the morphology of walking legs, Fu with two terminal claws, internal stop-teeth in the left valve, adductor muscle scar pattern, and a very narrow fused zone along the anterior and posterior margins. More precise determination of affinities will depend on the soft-part morphology of the cephalic segment, which has not been revealed in the present material.  相似文献

A cluster of thirteen elements of Panderodus unicosfatus (Branson & Mehl) from the Llandoverian of Po-dolia, Ukraine, is shown to represent an almost complete apparatus; only one element is lacking. The restored original arrangement of the elements is consistent with the model of the conodont apparatus with seven pairs of elements ordered in two parallel rows, with cusps opposing in every pair. The apparatus of Panderodus is closely similar to that of the Cambrian 'protoconcdonts' and their Recent chaetognath successors. Nevertheless, general trends in the evolution of elements of the Panderodontidae towards increased elongation, smoothness of the cusp curvature, and depth of the basal cavity indicate that the grasping apparatus of Panderodus developed independently of, and convergently to, that of the Chaetog-natha.  相似文献

The Skala horizon of Podolia has been under discussion as a possible candidate for the stratotype of the fourth Silurian series (primary subdivision) in the international standard chronostratigraphical scale. After a brief survey of the history of investigation, the section through the basal boundary of the Skala horizon is fully documented. The lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, and correlation of the Skala horizon are then discussed.  相似文献

Three Late Silurian carbonate profiles of the Malynivtsy and Skala Formations from Podolia (western Ukraine) are discussed in terms of sedimentation dynamics. Their common feature is the appearance of thick, stromatoporoid-rich beds within fine-grained peritidal deposits. These intercalations are composed of fossils typical of offshore sedimentary environments. In the most spectacular case, a channel, several tens of metres wide and infilled with stromatoporoids, is incised in a peritidal cyclic complex. The successions investigated exhibit sedimentary features that are diagnostic of onshore redeposition. Independently of the scale of the recorded sedimentary events, the onshore redeposition was caused by factors with energy levels exceeding those of average storms, probably by hurricanes or even tsunami waves. The dynamic nature of some of the stromatoporoid beds has to be taken into account when constructing the curves illustrating bathymetrical and facies development of the Silurian succession of Podolia. The genesis of lens-shaped stromatoporoid beds, elongated depending on their origin, either parallel or perpendicular to the facies belts, should be considered an important factor in reconstructions of the depositional architecture of sedimentary hydrocarbon collectors.  相似文献

Anew osteostracan genus and species,Victoraspis longicornualis n. gen., n. sp., is described based on material from Rakovets’, present day Ukraine. This new taxon shares characters with the two generaStensiopelta Denison, 1951 andZychaspis Janvier, 1985. A phylogenetic analysis supports the position ofVictoraspis as the sister group to a monophyleticStensiopelta, while the interrelationships of the various species ofZychaspis are poorly resolved. A morphometric analysis is carried out in an attempt to further resolve the taxonomic affinity. This analysis groups all examinedZychaspis species closely together, and further supports the establishment ofVictoraspis as separate genus.   相似文献

Abstract:  The earliest terebratulids from Central Asia (Tadzhikistan), Podolia (Ukraine) and Novaya Zemlya (Russia) are described and include the new genus Nordothyris. Cranaena tinctoradiata Cooper and Cloud and Cryptonella melonica (Barrande) are revised for first time. The stratigraphical levels of the species studied and their biofacies are also described.  相似文献
