The Devonian fossil Palaeoisopus appears, in the light of recent evidence from newly found specimens, to be much nearer extant pycnogonids than previously surmised. The fossil record of the Pycnogonida is extended to the Jurassic on the basis of a long overlooked Solenhofen example. Most of the specimens ascribed to the common Solenhofen Phalangites cannot be pycnogonids, but it is possible that we are dealing with a complex of superficially similar fossils. A revision of the classification of the fossil pycnogonids (Order Palaeopantopoda) is suggested in the light of this new material.  相似文献

The question of the age of «Hauts de Meuse coral rag is studied again using new faunas of brachiopods and ammonites collected above, below and inside the coral rag. Ammonites fauna of the well known «Calcaires de Creuë is revised. Results obtained agree closely.The «Hauts de Meuse coral rag grew up during Middle Oxfordian time; and extend part of the Plicatilis zone (Antecedens Subzone) and the whole Transversarium Zone up to the basis of the Bifurcatus Zone, for the first time identified in Lorraine. So it span a short depositional time, about 1 MY, with a high deposition rate, the thickness of the coral rag being more than 100 meters, reaching 150 meters in Saint-Mihiel area. Towards SE, on the other side of the Marne Gap, the sudden change into basinal facies go with a reducing of thickness and deposition rate.Upper Oxfordian deposits show a relative uniformity of facies and thickness. At the top of Middle Oxfordian limestones, the age of the discontinuity and the Sequanian renewal of deposition is basal Bifurcatus Zone. Erosional renewal and terrigeneous deposits are a wide spread event by the beginning of Upper Oxfordian.In the paleontological part, species upon which are based new ages and interpretations are only figured, except the species new or with new paleontological data, which are described. Since the late 20th century, new technologies have provided powerful ways to digitize biological structures in three dimensions (3D). Among those, photogrammetry is a low cost and non-destructive method, which has become increasingly used since the development of the digital camera. Recent studies have demonstrated that reconstructions of isolated elements can be of as high quality as those obtained with laser scanners. Here, we wanted to test the performance of photogrammetry for the quantitative analysis of mounted specimens in museum exhibitions. Indeed, access to material can be an issue in comparative anatomy and, especially, in paleontology. This is notably the case for large, impressive specimens. We performed reconstructions based on acquisitions done under various conditions and also tested the reconstruction performance of two software programs. The resulting 3D models were then compared to a reference object corresponding to the bone of interest digitized with a cutting-edge surface scanner. Our results show that photogrammetry enables quality reconstruction of the almost entire surface of the mounted bone of interest. Photogrammetry thus appears a reliable method perfectly suited to study large specimens exposed in museum gallery.  相似文献

The constraints on paleoecological analyses of fossil vertebrates are discussed using the example of Permo-Carboniferous amphibians. Paleoecological interpretations based on the study of the vertebrates as well as the fossil-bearing de-posit are generally inexact and possibly even inaccurate. Thus as many aspects as possible must be examined — the animal with all of its anatomical components and the fossil-bearing deposit with all available Information concerning sedimentology and taphonomy. Comparisons based on constructional morphology permit ecomorphological characterization of a fossil organism, with an optional band width for different ecological parameters. Individual parameters can be further re-fined through a search for evidence regarding the actual ecological band width, specifically in terms of diet and habitat. Reliable, broadly based paleoecological analyses can only be done for fossil occurrences that preserve many, more or less articulated specimens of vertebrates, and, even in those in-stances, only for more or less aquatic forms. This is particularly applicable for higher-level studies at the level of “population” or ecosystem. The study of temporally much averaged “populations” can provide data concerning age distribution for and growth-related ecological changes in a particular species. Studies of an ecosystem aim to reconstruct the structure and functions of that System through a reconstruction of the food web. On this basis, evaluation of the ecological role of the species in the context of paleocommunities is possible.  相似文献

Recent researches carried out in the uppert part of the “Calcare Massiccio” formation of Monte Cucco allowed to recover a rich Sinemurian fauna of gastropods, bivalves, brachiopods, ammonoids and some solitary corals. The gastropod fauna is greatly dominant and includes 18 species which belong to the superfamilies Pleurotomarioidea, Fissurelloidea, Amberleyoidea, Neritoidea, Loxonematoidea, Cerithioidea, Nerineoidea, Littorinoidea and Acteonoidea. Ten species of gastropods are here described for the first time. This fauna shows a marked affinity with that of the Sinemurian of Sicily. Under a paleoecological point of view, it is indicative of free marine conditions, in photic zone but under a weak hydrodynamism, and therefore may suggests the reference to a deep infralittoral or upper circalittoral environment.  相似文献

An ATP-binding cassette transporter LolCDE complex of Escherichia coli releases lipoproteins destined to the outer membrane from the inner membrane as a complex with a periplasmic chaperone, LolA. Interaction of the LolA-lipoprotein complex with an outer membrane receptor, LolB, then causes localization of lipoproteins to the outer membrane. As far as examined, formation of the LolA-lipoprotein complex strictly depends on ATP hydrolysis by the LolCDE complex in the presence of LolA. It has been speculated, based on crystallographic and biochemical observations, that LolA undergoes an ATP-dependent conformational change upon lipoprotein binding. Thus, preparation of a large amount of the LolA-lipoprotein complex is difficult. Moreover, lipoproteins bound to LolA are heterogeneous. We report here that the coexpression of LolA and outer membrane-specific lipoprotein Pal from a very efficient plasmid causes the unusual accumulation of the LolA-Pal complex in the periplasm. The complex was purified to homogeneity and shown to be a functional intermediate of the lipoprotein localization pathway. In vitro incorporation of Pal into outer membranes revealed that a single molecule of LolB catalyzes the incorporation of more than 100 molecules of Pal into outer membranes. Moreover, the LolB-dependent incorporation of Pal was not affected by excess-free LolA, indicating that LolB specifically interacts with liganded LolA. Finally, the LolB depletion caused the accumulation of a significant amount of Pal in the periplasm, thereby establishing the conditions for preparation of the homogeneous LolA-lipoprotein complex.  相似文献

Valdavara 3 is a new early late Pleistocene paleontological and archeological cave site in northwestern Iberia. Over 1400 fossils have been collected, representing about 40 species. The fauna is of interglacial aspect and is in accordance with the OSL dates from the fossiliferous layer, which indicate an age of 103–113 ka. The great taxonomical diversity indicates a varied landscape. A small collection of lithic artifacts was found associated with the fossils, demostrating presence of humans and suggesting short non-residential visits to the cave. The fossiliferous site was predominantly formed by natural processes. Many fossil localities have short or biased faunal lists, but the fossil fauna recovered from Valdavara 3 is remarkably diverse and may reflect the fauna which once lived there.  相似文献
