A new karyotype for blind mole rats was recorded in Tunceli province in Eastern Turkey. The karyotype contained 44 chromosomes, including 13 biarmed pairs, 7 acrocentric pairs, and one heteromorphic pair with a submetacentric and an acrocentric homologue in the autosomal complement (FNa=69). The X chromosome was submetacentric and the Y chromosome medium-sized subtelocentric (FN=73). Distinct dark centromeric C-bands were observed on most of the biarmed and three pairs of the acrocentric autosomes. The NORs were detected on short arms of three subtelocentric pairs and one acrocentric pair of autosomes. The diploid number of chromosomes and the karyotype characteristics observed are obviously unique among hitherto studied populations of blind mole rats and the complement can be evaluated as a new chromosome race of Nannospalax xanthodon. The distribution ranges of individual chromosome races of the species recorded in Eastern Anatolia are revised and possible interracial hybridization is discussed in respect of the finding of a new race.  相似文献

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), known to play an important role in vascular homeostasis, vascular integrity and angiogenesis, is little known about the evolutionary relationship of its five members especially the role of gene duplication and natural selection in the evolution of the VEGF family. In this study, seventy-five full-length cDNA sequences from 33 vertebrate species were extracted from the NCBI's GenBank, UniProt protein database and the Ensembl database. By phylogenetic analyses, we investigated the origin, conservation, and evolution of the VEGFs. Five VEGF family members in vertebrates might be formed by gene duplication. The inferred evolutionary transitions that separate members which belong to different gene clusters correlated with changes in functional properties. Selection analysis and protein structure analysis were combined to explain the relationship of the site-specific evolution in the vertebrate VEGF family. Eleven positive selection sites, one transmembrane region and the active sites were detected in this process.  相似文献

The karyotypes of 179 specimens of the subterranean mole rats of the Spalax leucodon Nordmann, 1840 superspecies across 40 localities in Turkey were analysed. It was determined that S. leucodon has 2n = 56, NF = 76 in the European part of Turkey (Eceabat population) but 2n = 38, NF = 74; 2n = 50, NF = 70; 2n = 52, NF = 70; 2n = 54, NF = 72; 2n = 56, NF = 74; 2n = 58, NF = 78; 2n = 60, NF = 78; 2n = 60, NF = 80 in populations analysed from the Asian part of Turkey. According to these karyological findings the diploid chromosome numbers of 2n = 50, 2n = 52, 2n = 56 and 2n = 58 determined from the Asian part of Turkey are new fo Spalax leucodon in Turkey. Because diploid numbers of these populations were formerly found from geographically distant localities in Turkey, they were designated as 2n = 50 N, 52 N, 56 N and 58 N, to differentiate from the other forms having the same diploid chromosome numbers but different chromosome morphology.

The occurrence of so many chromosomal forms in such small areas suggested that many other new forms may be found by new studies in Turkey. The presence of 2n = 50, 56 and 58 populations in very small areas is strongly supportive of the opinion of a peripatric chromosomal evolution in Spalax.  相似文献

Chromosome banding (G-, C- and Ag-NOR) analysis was carried out on 27 specimens of Sphalax ehrenbergi from seven localities and two specimens of S. leucodon from one locality, all from Turkey. No chromosomal variation was detected in S. ehrenbergi populations from Elazig, Siverek, Diyarbakir and Birecik having the same diploid numbers (2n = 52) and morphology of chromosomes (NFa = 72). The karyotypes of mole rats from Tarsus and Gaziantep possessed the identical diploid number (2n = 56) but different numbers of autosomal arms: NFa = 68 in the Tarsus and NFa = 78 in the Gaziantep populations. Chromosomes of S. leucodon from Malaty (2n = 60, NFa = 74) differed distinctly in the C-banding pattern from all S. ehrenbergi cytotypes by the almost entire absence of heterochromatin in acrocentric autosomes and the presence of heterochromatin arms iin subtelocentric autosomes. Nucleolar organizing regions were found mainly on three pairs of chromosomes, but some differences in their localization were revealed. Comparison of G-banded chromosomes showed, that most chromosomes have a similar pattern. The types of chromosomal rearrangemetns were revealed due to the banding methods.  相似文献

We sequenced 1077 bp of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene and 511 bp of the nuclear Apolipoprotein B gene in bicoloured shrew (Crocidura leucodon, Soricidae) populations ranging from France to Georgia. The aims of the study were to identify the main genetic clades within this species and the influence of Pleistocene climatic variations on the respective clades. The mitochondrial analyses revealed a European clade distributed from France eastwards to north-western Turkey and a Near East clade distributed from Georgia to Romania; the two clades separated during the Middle Pleistocene. We clearly identified a population expansion after a bottleneck for the European clade based on mitochondrial and nuclear sequencing data; this expansion was not observed for the eastern clade. We hypothesize that the western population was confined to a small Italo-Balkanic refugium, whereas the eastern population subsisted in several refugia along the southern coast of the Black Sea.  相似文献

Mole rats (genus Nannospalax) display prolific chromosomal variation with more than 50 distinct cytotypes. These cytotypes are largely indistinguishable morphologically, are mainly allopatric and their taxonomic ranking is contradictory. We established a cytochrome b phylogeny for 15 cytotypes belonging to all three species recognized on morphological grounds (morphospecies): N. leucodon, N. xanthodon and N. ehrenbergi. Phylogenetic reconstructions yielded two highly divergent groups which are in agreement with the current division into two subgenera (Nannospalax and Mesospalax). The former comprised samples from south‐eastern Turkey, Israel and Egypt (the morphospecies N. ehrenbergi). Basal dichotomy within Mesospalax remained unresolved and the putative sister position of N. leucodon against the two lineages of N. xanthodon was not supported in our analysis. Net divergences between sister cytotypes were low (< 2.0%) and two N. leucodon cytotypes were not even reciprocally monophyletic. Among the three morphospecies, the genetic diversity was lowest in N. leucodon (2.4% ± 0.3%), highest in N. xanthodon (8.8% ± 0.7%) and intermediate in N. ehrenbergi (5.0% ± 0.5%). Our results show that associations between genetic and chromosomal variation are not widespread and common in mole rats, and therefore refute the generalization of a ‘cytotype‐equals‐species’ approach. © 2011 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2012, 105 , 446–455.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. A survey of 96 herbivorous mole-rats, Spalax leucodon Nordmann, in Lalahan district of Ankara, Turkey, revealed the presence of 6 new species of coccidia. The species found, the shape and average length-width dimensions (in micrometers) of their oocysts, and the numbers of animals from which they were isolated were as follow: Eimeria lalahanensis sp. n., subspherical to ellipsoidal (20.3 × 12.5), from 10; Eimeria tuzdili sp. n., spherical to subspherical with radially striated oocyst wall, (20.5 × 16.5), from 3; Eimeria spalacis sp. n., ellipsoidal to cylindrical (16.3 × 9.8), from 90; Eimeria elliptica sp. n., ellipsoidal (14.3 × 10.1), from 8; Eimeria turkmenica sp. n., ellipsoidal (11.3 × 8.9), from 1; Isospora anatolicum sp. n., spherical (7.6 × 5.1), from 1 animal. The overall infection rate for 96 examined herbivorous mole-rats was 100%.  相似文献

Irisin was first identified in skeletal muscle cells. It is an exercise protein that is secreted into the circulation; it causes conversion of white adipose tissue to brown adipose tissue. We investigated irisin immunoreactivity in mole rat (Spalax leucodon) tissues. We examined cerebellum, pituitary, heart, liver, pancreas, spleen, uterus, kidney and striated muscle in female adult mole rats. Tissues were processed, embedded in paraffin, sectioned at 5 μm and stained immunohistochemically for irisin. Irisin immunostaining was detected in the cytoplasm of stained cells; the cytoplasm of Purkinje cells was unstained. We found that irisin may be synthesized in many tissues. The function of locally synthesized irisin currently is unknown.  相似文献

Karyotype (2fl) and allozymc diversity at 37 gene loci were determined in 69 subterranean mole rats in Turkey belonging to the two superspecies: the ancestor Spalax leucodon ( n = 55; 20 populations) and the descendant S. ehrenbergi ( n = 14; lour populations). We identified remarkable variation of diploid chromosome numbers in the S. leucodon superspecies: 2 n = 38. 40. 50, 54, 60 and 62; and in the S. ehrenbergi superspecies: 2 n = 52, 56 and 58. Genetic diversity indices were low on average in both S. leucodon and S. ehrenbergi superspecies: Allele diversity, A = 1.081 and 1.074; polymorphism, P-5%= 0.077 and 0.068; heterozygosity, H = 0.038 and 0.027; and gene diversity, H, = 0.038 and 0.034, respectively. H ranged from 0 in mesic or semimesic regions to 0.088 in arid Anatolia. We consider the populations with different diploid chromosome numbers, 2 n , as good biological species. Karyotypic diversity may mark extensive ecological speciation. Nei's genetic distances, D (average 0.174, range 0.002 0.422) and ecogeographical criteria suggest that almost each population may represent a different biological species, but critical future testing is necessary to support this claim. Karyotypes and allozymes are nonrandomly distributed across Turkey, displaying remarkable correlations with climatic and biolir factors. Both In and H are significantly correlated with aridity stress (2 n /rainfall, r , =–0.74; P < 0.001), and in our region also with climatic unpredictability. These results support the niche-width genetic variation hypothesis in space and time. Climatic selection in Turkey appears to be a major architect of karyotype and genetic (allozymc) diversity and divergence in mole rat evolution, in both speciation and adaptation.  相似文献
