Evidence exists that Cd and certain nutrient elements, such as Fe and Mg, could share similar mechanisms of plant uptake and accumulation. Here we report that Mg and Fe deficiency in mature plants of Salix viminalis, grown in hydroponic solutions containing 5 µg ml?1 of Cd, caused a significant increase in Cd accumulation in roots, stems and leaves. Cd (µg g?1 dry weight) was determined following three treatments: 1) Cd treatment in complete nutrient solution; 2) Cd treatment with Fe deficiency; and 3) Cd treatment with Mg deficiency, yielding, respectively: in young leaves (65.3, 76.1, and 92.2), mature leaves (51.5 to 76.3 and 87.1), upper stems (80.6, 116.8, and 130.6) lower stems (67.2, 119, and 102.3), roots (377.1, 744.8, and 442,5). Our results suggest that Cd utilizes the same uptake and transport pathways as Mg and Fe. Evidence exists that Mg and Fe uptake and translocation could be further facilitated by plants as an adaptive response to deficiency of these elements. Such physiological reaction could additionally stimulate Cd accumulation. Although Cd uptake was mostly confined in roots, high Cd content in aerial plant parts (51.5–130.6 µg g?1) indicates that the analysed Salix viminalis genotype is suitable for phytoextraction. 相似文献

1. The leaf beetle, Chrysomela lapponica, originally uses the salicyl glucosides (SGs) of its host plants to sequester salicylaldehyde, which serves as a defence against generalist enemies but attracts specialist enemies. However, some populations of C. lapponica have shifted to SG‐poor hosts, and their secretions do not contain salicylaldehyde. 2. In was suggested that beetles shift to SG‐poor hosts to escape from specialist enemies. To test this hypothesis, we compared field mortality between two populations of C. lapponica that were associated with SG‐rich willow, Salix myrsinifolia (Kola Peninsula and Finland) and two populations that fed on SG‐poor willows, S. glauca (Ural) and S. caprea (Belarus). 3. Mortality from generalist enemies was significantly higher in Belarus than in three other populations, whereas mortality from specialists did not differ among populations. A specialist predator (syrphid fly larvae, Parasyrphus nigritarsis) and specialist parasitoids (phorid flies, Megaselia spp.) were attracted to the secretions of larvae reared on both SG‐rich and SG‐poor hosts. 4. Feeding on leaves of S. caprea and S. myrsinifolia both previously damaged by leaf puncturing and by the larvae of potentially competing species Chrysomela vigintipunctata, decreased the weight and prolonged the development of C. lapponica. 5. Thus, populations of C. lapponica that have shifted to SG‐poor willow species did not obtain enemy‐free space because specialist enemies have developed adaptations to herbivores that switched to a novel host plant. We suggest that in some populations host plant shift was favoured by interspecific competition with the early season SG‐using specialist, C. vigintipunctata. 相似文献

The effect of simulated beetle damage (0%, 25%, 50% and 75% mechanical defoliation) on 12 willow genotypes, grown in short‐rotation coppice, was studied in a modified criss‐cross experimental design. The design enabled the above‐ground effects of monoculture and mixed planting to be assessed. Repeated measurements were modelled to produce derived variables in terms of time or, more appropriately, in terms of accumulated day length (i.e. ‘developmental time’) units. These derived variables were then analysed using the REsidual Maximum Likelihood (REML) method implemented in GenStat? (2001) . No significant competition effect between the genotypes due to planting regime was detected. Genotypes Salix viminalis × Salix schwerinii‘Beagle’ and S. viminalis × S. schwerinii‘Torhild’ were found to have the greatest rate of increase in leaves regardless of defoliation and also the greatest height prior to defoliation. Genotype Salix dasyclados‘Loden’ showed the highest rate of growth under the stress of defoliation. When assessing height at the end of the growing season, S. viminalis × S. schwerinii‘Olof’ was the highest genotype for 25% and 75% levels of defoliation, but genotypes Salix aurita × Salix cinerea‘Delamere’, Loden and S. viminalis × Salix burjatica‘Ashton Parfitt’ appeared to be most tolerant by having consecutively lower base day lengths (i.e. increasing the accumulation of developmental units and the length of the growing season) for increasing defoliation. Shorter genotypes tended to be more tolerant, but of the higher genotypes reaching a control height of greater than 3 m by the end of the growing season, S. viminalis × S. schwerinii‘Tora’ and Beagle performed best to 50% defoliation. 相似文献

Cyanidin 3-glucoside and delphinidin 3-glucoside (minor component) occurred in the bark of Salix purpurea (29 cultivars examined), S. fragilis (3 cvs), S. americana (4 cvs), S. rubra (1 cv.), S. incana (1 cv.), S. aegyptica (1 cv.) and S. alba (3 cvs) and several hybrids. A previously unrecorded anthocyanin was also present in appreciable amounts in the bark of eleven S. purpurea cultivars, notably those with small leaves. In other large-leaved cultivars of S. purpurea (18) it occurred only in traces or was not detected with certainty. A trace was found in one purpurea hybrid, but it was not detected in four others. Small amounts of the new anthocyanin were also found in S. incana (1 cv.), S. fragilis cv. Basfordiana, S. americana cv. Cordata and one hybrid, but were absent from other cultivars of S. fragilis (2) and S. americana (2), and also from S. alba (3), S. aegyptica (1), S. daphnoides (1), S. rubra (1), S. triandra (1), S. viminalis (1) and three hybrids. The new anthocyanin is unique in containing fructose as well as glucose and is based upon a previously undescribed anthocyanidin, possibly dimeric in nature, which is provisionally named purpurinidin. 相似文献

应用杨属(Populus)和钻天柳属(Chosenia)分别作为不同的外类群,对中国柳属多雄蕊类群构建了两个分支图。结果表明,钻天柳属、大叶柳和四子柳组(Sect.Tetraspermae)都是较原始的类群。支持建立Toisusu Kimura属。根据分支图和染色体数目资料,多雄蕊类群可划分五个类组。支持方振富教授关于"南方型"和"北方型"的划分以及在东亚有从南方向北方演化的趋势,特别对于中国特有组紫柳组(Sect.Wilsonianae).Sect.Salix和Sect.Subalbae两组的分化应予以承认。 相似文献

The phytoextraction of the trace elements (TEs) As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn by willow cultivars (Fish Creek, SV1 and SX67) was measured during a 3-year field trial in a mildly contaminated soil. Biomass ranged from 2.8 to 4.4 Mg/ha/year at 30,000 plants/ha. Shoots (62%) were the main component followed by leaves (23%) and roots (15%). Biomass was positively linked to soluble soil dissolved organic carbon, K, and Mg, while TEs, not Cd and Zn, had a negative effect. The TE concentration ranking was: Zn > Cu > Cd > Ni, Pb > As, and distribution patterns were: (i) minima in shoots (As, Ni), (ii) maxima in leaves (Cd, Zn), or (iii) maxima in roots (Cu, Pb). Correlations between soil and plant TE were significant for the six TEs in roots. The amounts extracted were at a maximum for Zn, whereas Fish Creek and SV1 extracted more TE than SX67. More than 60% (91–94% for Cd and Zn) of the total TE was in the aboveground parts. Uptake increased with time because of higher biomass. Fertilization, the selection of cultivars, and the use of complementary plants are required to improve productivity and Cd and Zn uptake. 相似文献

The effects of individual phenolic glucosides and total glucoside fractions on the feeding behaviour of three willowfeeding
leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) were tested in the laboratory. Feeding preferences of the tested leaf beetles were
strongly influenced by certain phenolic glucosides which are typical secondary compounds of willows (Salicaceae:Salix).
Two of the tested leaf beetles,Galerucella lineola andLochmaea capreae showed rather similar responses to glucoside treatments. Both of them were strongly stimulated by total glucoside fractions
fromSalix triandra and by its major glucoside salidroside. The third species,Phatora vitellinae, was attracted most by the fractions fromS. myrsinifolia andS. pentandra, and by two related salicylate glucosides, tremulacin and salicortin. Food selection pattern of the tested beetles in the
laboratory concords fairly well with their distributions in the field and with the occurrence of phenolic glucosides in their
host willows. Phenolic glucoside extracts stimulated more feeding than individual pure glucosides. This indicates that different
compounds have synergistic effects in the feeding behaviour of leaf beetles. Our results clearly show that willow leaf beetles
select their food based on phenolic glucosides of their host plants. 相似文献

The effects of aquatic macrophyte (willows and sawgrass) removal on flow velocity, tufa deposition, POM dynamics, and macroinvertebrate
community structure were studied in the tufa barrier habitats of the barrage system of Plitvice Lakes, Croatia. Samples were
collected from two hydraulic habitats (fast > 100 cm s−1 and slow < 100 cm s−1) at both a control (no macrophytes removed) and impact (macrophytes removed) site. Samples were collected with a core sampler
(four layers in vertical profile of barrier bed) monthly on 6 dates before and 7 dates after the removal of macrophytes. Macrophytes
were removed in May 2002 at the impact site. After the macrophyte removal flow velocity decreased significantly at both hydraulic
habitats. Retarded flow resulted in: (a) a decrease in macroinvertebrate density and diversity since most of the taxa were
rheophilic (preferring habitats with higher flow velocity) and (b) an increase in POM concentrations (FPOM and UPOM) since
decreases in flow velocity facilitate particle deposition in lotic habitats. The effects of macrophyte removal were present,
and diminish along the vertical sediment profile of the barrier bed. Tufa deposition was not influenced by the macrophyte
removal.

Many plant species exhibit inflorescence morphologies intermediate between pollination syndromes and may therefore employ
generalist pollination strategies. We studied how wind and insect pollination are related to inflorescence morphology in the
floodplain species Salix alba, S. elaeagnos, S. daphnoides and S. triandra. Insect exclusion experiments showed that all four species were primarily pollinated by insects, but were capable of some
seed set when wind was the only pollen vector. Such a generalist pollination system may provide reproductive assurance in
these pioneer species. High wind pollination success was associated with slender and divided stigmatic lobes and low ovule
number per catkin, which may enhance filtering capacity for airborne pollen. In contrast, species that relied more on insect
pollination had robust stigmata and many ovules per catkin, which may reduce the number of insect visits necessary for pollination.
