Résumé Dans toutes les cellules mucipares de la branchie de Mytilus edulis L., quelques grains de secretion montrent une activité phosphatasique acide, décelée par la méthode cytochimique de Gomori appliquée au microscope électronique. A la proximité de ces grains se trouvent des dictyosomes golgiens où une activité phosphatasique se décèle dans les parties latérales des cisternes et dans les vésicules qui en émanent. Au moment de l'excrétion, tous les grains de sécrétion confluent et la phosphatase acide active est incluse dans l'amas de mucus expulsé dans la cavité palléale. Le rôle digestif de ces amas — et non purement mécanique — peut ainsi être considéré comme hautement probable. De telles manifestations enzymatiques sont totalement absentes dans le tapis muqueux ainsi que dans les cellules qui le constituent.
Excretion of acidic phosphatase by the goblet-cells of the gill of Mytilus edulis L.An electron microscopic study
Summary Acidic phosphatase activity detected by the Gomori method applied to E.M., has been found in a few secretion granules of each goblet cell of the gill of Mytilus edulis L. In the close proximity of those granules golgian dictyosomes always occur, with acidic phosphatase activity in the lateral parts of the cisternae and in the vesicles arising from the latter. When the mucus is extruded, active and non active secretion granules are mixed and thus, acidic phosphatase activity is regularly found in the mucous tufts extruded into the palleal cavity. Therefore the digestive role — and not merely mechanic — of the mucous tufts may be considered as highly probable. Conversely, the secretion granules from which arises the continuous mucous cover of the epithelium and this cover also, are entirely devoid of any acidic phosphatase activity.

Protamine of the archaeogastropod mollusc Monodonta turbinata has been isolated and characterized. With a mass of 13,476 Da, it is the largest known prolamine. Amino acid sequence of this protamine (106 residues) was established from data provided by automated sequence analysis and mass spectrometry of the protein and of its fragments. The primary structure of the NH2-terminal region exhibits repetitive sequence motifs Basic-Ser (mainly R-S) and both central and COOH-terminal regions are composed by arginine clusters. The amino acid sequence of Monodonta turbinata protamine shows structural similarities with other protamines from invertebrates and from birds and mammals.  相似文献

In the bivalve mollusc Pecten maximus, the size of the mitochondrial DNA molecules ranges from 20 to 25.8 kbp. This variability is mainly correlated with the occurrence of a variable domain composed with two to five 1.6-kbp repeated units tandemly arrayed in the genome. DNA fragments spanning the 1,586-base-pair-long repeated element and the nearest flanking gene have been cloned and sequenced. This sequence was analyzed regarding its base composition and potential secondary structures. The repeated unit domain was positioned and oriented with regard to the known flanking gene. It ends 2 base pairs upstream relative to the beginning of the tRNAgly gene. The peculiar properties of the repeated unit were compared with those of the 1,442-bp repeated element found in the mitochondrial genome of the deep sea scallop Placopecten magellanicus. This comparison provided evidence for the absence of nucleotide conservation, except for a small sequence engaged in a secondary structure, but argued for a strong pressure maintaining domains with specific nucleotide content. The prey capture phase of feeding behavior in the pteropod mollusc Clione limacina consists of an explosive extrusion of buccal cones, specialized structures which are used to catch the prey, and acceleration of swimming with frequent turning and looping produced by tail bend. A system of neurons which control different components of prey capture behavior in Clione has been identified in the cerebral ganglia. Cerebral B and L neurons produce retraction of buccal cones and tightening of the lips over them — their spontaneous spike activities maintain buccal cones in the withdrawn position. Cerebral A neurons inhibit B and L cells and produce opening of the lips and extrusion of buccal cones. A pair of cerebral interneurons C-BM activates cerebral A neurons and synchronously initiates the feeding motor program in the buccal ganglia. Cerebral T neurons initiate acceleration of swimming and produce tail bending which underlies turning and looping during the prey capture. Both tactile and chemical inputs from the prey produce activation of cerebral A and T neurons. This reaction appears to be specific, since objects other than alive Limacina or Limacina juice do not initiate activities of A and T neurons.  相似文献

Adult pulmonate snails (Helix pomatia) were released equidistant between two types of food, carrot and potato, respectively. Naive snails moved in different directions and did not locate either food above chance, although both foods were readily eaten upon direct contact. After a single carrot feeding episode, 75% of the carrot-fed snails moved directly towards the carrot and ate it. Conversely, potato-fed snails located the potato in 67% of the cases. Snails that were fed apple or lettuce behaved like naive animals, with the majority of animals (75% in both cases) locating neither the carrot nor the potato.The ability of snails to locate this particular food after a single feeding episode was maintained for at least 11 days, provided that the snails were not exposed to other foods in the interim. If the animals were fed a different food (but still tested for food-finding ability to the initially conditioned food) their orientation preference decreased gradually over a period of 5 days.Although the snails' orientation is based upon olfactory cues, exposure to food odor alone is not sufficient to enable food-finding; additional feeding related stimuli are necessary.These findings indicate that Helix do not possess a predisposition for the foods tested, and further suggest that processes underlying food-finding and food selection are strongly influenced by learning experiences. The conditioning phenomenon underlying food-finding behavior has been called Food-Attraction Conditioning, and appears to be a crucial link between the ecologies of learning and foraging behaviors. The accessibility of the snail's nervous system should permit neuronal analysis of the mechanisms underlying such a unique and complex learning phenomenon.  相似文献

This study identifies the types and quantities of metals retained by Nereis diversicolor and Scrobicularia plana in a predominantly arid estuary environment.Certain abiotic parameters and a number of physiological processes linked to metabolic and reproductive functions play a decisive role in the seasonal influence of metal levels on the tissues of these organisms.Given the deposivoric diet of the organisms, the sedimentary bed would appear to be the principal source of metal accumulation.The following classification illustrates the bioaccumulation of metals: 209-1The possibility that these metals may be carried into the estuary by sewage water from the cities of Rabat and Sále should certainly not be ignored.  相似文献

Summary The glyoxylic acid monoamine-detecting technique of Bolstad et al. (1979) was applied to wholemounts of intact ganglia of the gastropod mollusc Philine aperta. A dense network of fluorescent varicosities was found in the sheath of the suboesophageal, visceral and genital ganglia, and most of their nerves. Drug treatment experiments suggest that these projections to the neural sheath contain serotonin. The significance of these terminals in the sheath is discussed and proposals for further work are given.  相似文献

A chronological relationship between the annual profiles of oxidative stress markers, the key regulator of stress physiology has been sought in a terrestrial mollusc (Nerita articulata) under natural photothermal conditions. The hemolymph samples were collected at two different times in each month (from January to December) and the same was repeated for two consecutive years throughout an annual cycle. The fluctuations in the concentrations of certain heavy and trace metals (zinc, copper, cadmium, mercury, lead, and nickel) in both soil and hemolymph of Nerita are also estimated accordingly. Therefore, the present study aims to explore the rhythmic responses of oxidative stress marker to assess the impact of different trace and heavy metals on selected mollusc species. We tries to develop a realistic conceptual idea to analyze and predict the effect of changing environmental pollution on the possible shift in the rhythmicity of aforesaid antioxidants in terrestrial mollusc and their adaptive responses to thrive in such environment. Our results indicates that the amplitude of circannual rhythms of all the selected stress markers varied accordingly but the pattern of annual fluctuation is noted to be similar, and correlated with the metal accumulation. Therefore current information might help to frame the adaptive strategies for invertebrate species under similar toxic circumstances.  相似文献
