典型农业生态工程运行机制分析—以山东省西单村为例

通过对典型农业生态工程结构的研究,分析了生态农业系统的运行机制,结果表明,结构多样性与主导性关系的协调问题,是目前制约农业生态系统良性循环的根本问题,山东省西单村农业生态系统之所以以前期能够保持持续稳定发展,后期出现减缓趋势,主要原因也是由于其系统的结构多样性比较高,结构多样性指数最高达0．6556,结构链内部各组分之间的协调性超过90％,而系统实际主导性则较低,结构主导性指数最高为0．2574,系统的最高协调性指数只有0．1327,因此,要保证系统的可持续发展,必须保证系统结构的协调性。

Accommodating ethnic diversity in a modernizing democratic state: theory and practice in the case of Mauritius

This article examines the accommodation of diverse ethnic communities in developing democratic states. We examine those means of managing or reducing ethnic conflicts identified in the literature that have actually been employed in Mauritius, one of the most successful ethnically-diverse developing states in the world. Our findings suggest that traditional elite-dominated means of regulating conflicts are becoming less effective in an age of growing populism and declining deference to elites, and that new means of incorporating ethnic communities into the functioning of the state are required. The key means in the case of Mauritius seem to have been the development of a competent and representative public service; the incorporation of civic associations, including those with an ethnic character, in the policy process by means of a civic network; and the evolution of political parties into ethnically diverse organizations. Inclusiveness appears to be more important than strict proportionality.     

Reactions of Grape Rootstocks to Pratylenchus vulnus and Meloidogyne spp.

Five grape rootstocks were inoculated with 0, 100, 1,000, and 10,000 Pratylenchus vulnus. Dogridge and Saltcreek supported low average total numbers of P. vulnus, 136-705/pot, at 12 months after inoculation. Growth of both rootstocks was not affected. Harmony, Couderc 1613, and Ganzin 1 supported high average total numbers, 6-856 times the inoculum levels. Numbers in Harmony continued to increase at all levels but reduced root weight only at the 10,000 level after 12 months. Numbers in Couderc 1613 decreased by 15-30% after 12 months, and root weight was reduced at the 10,000 level. In Ganzin 1, total nematode numbers diminished after 12 months but were still at high levels; growth reduction was proportional to numbers of nematodes added. Meloidogyne incognita, M. javanica, and M. arenaria produced galls and egg masses in Harmony and Couderc 1613 only at 36 C. Galling in Ganzin 1 increased with increasing temperature. Galls in Ganzin 1 at 18 C supported mature females after 90 days. Harmony was resistant to M. incognita in single and concomitant inoculations of P. vulnus and M. incognita. At 250 days after inoculation, total numbers of P. vulnus increased above the inoculum level and the 150-day values; increase was greatest in P. vulnus added singly. Neither nematode species affected growth of Harmony.     

The offspring of interethnic marriage: Relations of children with paternal and maternal grandparents

Over the last decades 15 to 20 per cent of all Jewish marriages in Israel were between members of the two different ethnic groups, the Orientals and Ashkenazis. At present at least 15 per cent of the school population is of mixed ethnic origin. This article gives an account of a study involving 136 children in sixth to eighth grade belonging to this group (boys and girls, hypergamous and hypogamous marriages in equal numbers) and tries to answer questions as to their distance or proximity to either ethnic group by probing the children's knowledge about and relations with their paternal and maternal grandparents and their attitudes towards them. The results of the investigation show that there seems to be a small inclination in favour of the Ashkenazi side, but that generally the children maintain close connections with both sides of the family and the outstanding finding, given the higher status of the Ashkenazis in Israeli society, is how small the difference is in the relationship of the children with either side. It is concluded that this finding is an indication of the increasing integration within Israel"s Jewish society.     

Game theoretical modelling of survival strategies of Candida albicans inside macrophages

The polymorphic fungus Candida albicans can live as an aggressive pathogen that causes a wide variety of diseases in humans. Host resistance against these infections is mediated predominantly by phagocytes, namely neutrophils and macrophages. This report provides two game theoretical models of ingested C. albicans cells in macrophages. Two strategies are available for each pathogenic yeast cell: avoiding lysis transiently (called silencing) or forming hyphae and escaping (called piercing because the macrophage is pierced from inside). In dependence on parameter values, two different outcomes can be derived from the model: when the difference of the costs of the two strategies is low, all fungal cells inside a macrophage will play the piercing strategy, while in the high-cost case, a mixed population of piercing and silencing cells is the only stable solution. Further, the role of the SAP gene family encoding secreted proteinases and the Sap proteins is investigated with the help of known studies and is put in relation to the costs of the strategies, the most important parameter of this model. Our results are in agreement with wet-lab results presented by other groups and the model parameters can be estimated from experimental data.
