Three species of irregular see-urchins form the settlement of a marly level (lower Hauterivian) of the Castellane area. Two of them are strongly smaller than the norm. Their stunting is prouved by ontogenic, mecanical, sedimentological and ecological arguments. The ecological grounds of stunting are discussed.  相似文献

An unusual megaspore has been recorded from beds within the Weald Clay Group of south-east England. Described as Clockhousea capelensis gen. et sp. nov., it is characterised by having a thick outer layer of exine consisting of closely packed columnar to clavate elements with constricted bases attached to a perforated inner layer and a sculpture that ranges from having the appearance of a negative reticulum through closely spaced verrucae to a mixture of verrucate and essentially baculate elements, all of which are surface manifestations and extensions of the underlying structure. These characters do not readily indicate a systematic relationship with any known heterosporous plant genus or family. The localised occurrence and relative abundance of the spores in a few beds suggest that some of the parent plants grew close to water bodies where they were deposited and preserved. Their recovery from sediments of late Hauterivian–early Barremian age indicates that the species has potential as a biostratigraphic marker in the upper Wealden succession of southern England and perhaps elsewhere.  相似文献

The boreal Ammonites (and the more or lessphylogenetically related ones) of the southeast France (Tethyan Realm) are described and figured. 24 forms are refered to, or compared with, previously identified species. 3 are left under open nomenclature, and 7 are new ones. Two new subgenus: Julianites (Paquiericeras) and Lemurostephanus (Olcostephanus) are also introduced.Their biostratigraphic position in the Frenchzonal scheme is detailed. Their contribution to the establishment of correlation between the Boreal and Tethyan provinces is stressed. The most interesting feature is the identification of a Prodichotomites horizon just below the Verrucosum zone, allowing comparison of the definition of the Lower-Upper Valanginian boundary in these two paleobiogeographic realms.  相似文献

Upper Hauterivian reefal carbonates of the Llàcova Formation (Maestrat Basin, Iberian Chain, E Spain) contain Sporolithon phylloideum (Bucur and Dragastan) Tomás, Aguirre, Braga and Martín-Closas comb. nov. and Sporolithon rude (Lemoine) Ghosh and Maithy (1996). Moussavian et al. (1993) identified them as Parakymalithon phylloideum (Bucur and Dragastan) Moussavian 1987 and Archaeolithothamnium rude Lemoine 1925. The re-assessment of the type of P. phylloideum and additional material indicate that the diagnostic characters of the genus do not warrant separation from Sporolithon and the new combination Sporolithon phylloideum is proposed. The lectotype of Sporolithon rude presents sporangial cavities grouped in sori that can be merged originating a structure that resembles the multiporate tetrasporangial conceptacles of the Hapalidiaceae. We hypothesize that multiporate tetrasporangial conceptacles could have originated from the fusion of several sporangial cavities, suggesting a phylogenetic linkage between Sporolithaceae and Hapalidiaceae supported by other anatomical features, molecular phylogeny and the fossil record.  相似文献

The diagnosis of the genus Khetella Beisel, 1977 is emended, and a new genus, Cretadmete, is described. Two new species belonging to these genera, K. trautscholdi and C. neglecta, are established from the Upper Hauterivian of Ulyanovsk (Volga Region).  相似文献

Data on the detailed stratigraphic range of eight species of gastropod mollusks from the Upper Hauterivian of Ulyanovsk (Volga Region) are presented. A new genus, Trilemma, is established within the family Aporrhaidae. Two new species of this genus, T. russiense sp. nov. and T. striatocarinatum (Sinzow, 1880), are described.  相似文献

A detailed analysis of the stratigraphic distribution of ammonites from fourteen sections in the External Zones of the Betic Cordillera has enabled us to identify accurately the sequence of bioevents that take place throughout the uppermost Hauterivian and to propose a more precise biostratigraphic scheme for this interval. Thus, we have divided the two currently admitted zones (the Crioceratites balearis Zone and the Pseudothurmannia angulicostata auct. Zone) into several subzones. Four subzones can be recognised within the Cr. balearis Zone. The base of each subzone is defined by the first occurrence of one of four successive species belonging to the same Crioceratites lineage. These species are: Cr. balearis, Cr. binelli, Cr. krenkeli and Cr. angulicostatus. The Ps. ohmi Zone (which replaces the classical Ps. angulicostata Zone) can be divided into three subzones characterised by three successive species of the genus Pseudothurmannia: Ps. ohmi, Ps mortilleti (here considered as a senior synonym of Ps. catulloi) and Ps. picteti. According to the current definition, the first occurrence of Taveraidiscus hugii (OOSTER) marks the lower boundary of the Barremian stage. This event fits into a major faunal-renewal episode that begins in the upper part of the Ps. picteti Subzone.  相似文献

Recent field work in Lower Cretaceous successions of Traill Ø and Wollaston Forland, North-East Greenland, have resulted in c. 2350 belemnite guards collected bed-by-bed from the upper Ryazanian – Hauterivian. The most common belemnite genera observed, Acroteuthis, Pachyteuthis, and Cylindroteuthis are of boreal-arctic affinities and closely related to NW European and Siberian faunas. Other taxa, including Hibolithes (common), Pseudobelus (relatively common) and Duvalia (rare), show faunal links to both NW European and Mediterranean faunas. This paper describes and discusses these findings in their taxonomic, biostratigraphic, palaeobiogeographic, palaeoecologic and palaeoceanographic context. In particular, the occurrence of Pseudobelus which is common in the circum Mediterranean area, is remarkable since it is the first observation of this Tethyan genus in the entire Boreal Realm. The palaeoecological interpretation of these observations result in the recognition of four different palaeobiogeographic belemnite assemblages for the Boreal Realm: 1) North-East Greenland, 2) Spitsbergen, 3) NW Europe and 4) Siberia. In contrast to the other assemblages, the belemnite faunas of North-East Greenland consist of a) Boreal-Arctic elements, b) Boreal-European taxa, c) endemic belemnites of Tethyan ancestry, and d) Tethyan species. These findings make North-East Greenland part of an immigration route from the Tethyan Realm via the north Atlantic to the high Boreal. This allowed Tethyan species, which are otherwise unknown from the Boreal Realm, to reach North-East Greenland. The occurrence of the Tethyan genus Pseudobelus in North-East Greenland also supports the interpretation of this taxon as a hemipelagic dweller, capable of crossing major distances. The belemnite patterns further suggest the existence of a proto Gulf-stream, documenting a south-to-north flow of warm surface waters as far north as Greenland already in the earliest Cretaceous (Valanginian). This has substantial implications for the interpretation of Early Cretaceous climate and oceanic current systems, as well as for the palaeobiology of belemnites.  相似文献
