The response of a harpacticoid copepod community to sediment disturbance in a semi-enclosed lagoon 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The harpacticoid fauna of a sandy sediment in the Sluice Dock of Ostend, Belgium, was dominated by a single species, Canuella perplexa, that attained an average annual density of over 400 ind. 10 cm–2 in 1976 and 1977, whereas other species had a total mean density of less than 10 ind. 10 cm–2. In the summer of 1979 a dystrophic crisis with abundant growth of Ulva occurred and in March 1980 the lagoon was drained. After refilling of the lagoon, the sediment was immediately colonized by good swimming harpacticoids, that attained densities of 200 ind. 10 cm–2. Three months after refilling Canuella perplexa reappeared and the system returned to its original state within one month. 相似文献

Numerous specimens of Pseudomoraria triglavensis gen.n., sp.n. were collected from small, high-alpine, reservoir Moilec. The reservoir is situated in the centre of Triglav national park (NW Slovenia) at an altitude of 1690 m. The new genus differs from related genera Moraria, Morariopsis and Paramorariopsis by the reduced articulation of exopodites and endopodites in both sexes. It also differs from Moraria by possessing sexually dimorphic furcal rami. Detail taxonomic differences between these related genera and their ecology are discussed. 相似文献

On the continental Copepod fauna of Morocco 总被引:4,自引:4,他引:0
A series of samples, collected in different parts of Morocco, contained 26 species and one subspecies of Copepoda. Ten among these are new to the fauna of Morocco and one is new to Science. Two species (Eucyclops hadjebensis Kiefer and Mixodiaptomus laciniatus atlantis Kiefer) are endemic to Morocco; Afrocyclops gibsoni Brady and Thermocyclops schuurmanae Kiefer are Ethiopan species. The former reaches its limit of Northern extent East of the Atlas mountains; the latter is a pluvial relict. The remaining species have either a cosmopolitan, circummediterranean or North-African distribution, with the exception of Cyclops abyssorum mauretaniae which is a southern element of the Eurasiatic genus Cyclops. Its taxonomical status is reviewed in some detail. Thermocyclops infrequens Kiefer is synonymized with T. schuurmanae Kiefer. It is concluded that the largest gaps in our knowledge of the Copepoda of Morocco are now in the group of the Harpacticoida.Contribution no. 14 of the biological expedition of the University of Gent (Belgium) to Morocco, July–August 1971 相似文献

The spatial population patterns of an assemblage of meiobenthic harpacticoid copepod species were analysed for two sets of
samples resulting from a systematic survey of an intertidal, estuarine, sandy beach in spring. The fauna was characterised
by mesopsammic species, the 6 most abundant of which showed a great degree of interassociation, such that they could not be
considered to distribute themselves independently. Populations of each of the 6 species were overdispersed, such that a negative
binomial distribution adequately fitted all population samples. Spatial segregation of closely related species was indicated
during the late spring sample, so leading to a patchy population distribution. It is proposed that during early spring, during
periods of extreme disturbance in the seasonal r-selecting environment, the species populations do not interact, but that during periods of less extreme perturbation an interactive
community evolves. 相似文献

A new genus of the harpacticoid family Laophontidae is described and named Peltidiphonte gen. n. Eight new species are assigned to this genus; they were collected from different locations in the Indo-West Pacific
Ocean, including the Comoros, the Kenyan coast, the Red Sea, the Andaman Islands, the northern coast of Papua New Guinea,
the Solomon Islands and the northeastern coast of Australia. Most of the specimens were collected from dead coral substrates,
suggesting a close affinity between the members of the new genus and this substrate. Peltidiphonte gen. n. can easily be discriminated from other genera of the family by the extremely depressed body and by the shape of the
antennule, bearing two (or three) processes on the first segment and a hook-like process along the outer margin of the second
segment. An identification key for the new genus is provided. 相似文献

Different taxa have had different degrees of success in invading and proliferating in the deep sea. The reasons for these differences are not well known, and exemplars need to be studied to provide insight as to factors that lead to success in the deep sea. Because the abundance of the deep-sea fauna taken as a whole declines with depth, the absolute abundance of a taxon is not an appropriate metric of its success. Rather, a taxon whose abundance declines as rapidly as or less rapidly than the general trend should be considered successful. In this paper, I used the macrofauna to define the general trend of abundance change with depth. When I compared the trend of abundance of harpacticoids to that for macrofauna, I found that harpacticoid abundance decreased less rapidly. Thus, harpacticoids are unusually successful in the deep sea. The reasons for their success are unknown, but I discuss three possible explanations. 相似文献

This study assesses seasonal variation in the morphology and diet of juveniles and adults of the Easter Island endemic goby Kelloggella disalvoi from intertidal pools during September–October 2015 (spring) and June–July 2016 (winter), utilizing geometric morphometric and gut‐content analyses. A set of 16 landmarks was digitized in 128 individuals. Shape changes related to size changes (i.e. allometry) were low (18·6%) and were seasonally similar. Body shape changes were mainly dorsoventral (44·2% of variance) and comprised posteroventral displacement of the premaxilla and bending of the body. The latter included vertical displacement of the anterior portion of the first and second dorsal fins and the entire base of the caudal fin. Diets mainly comprised developmental stages of harpacticoid copepods (from eggs to adults), ostracods, isopods, gastropods and bivalves. Also, trophic niche breadth remained constant throughout development and did not vary between seasons. Nonetheless, significant dietary differences were detected in specimens collected during spring (main prey items: harpacticoid copepods and copepod eggs) and winter (harpacticoid copepods and copepod nauplii). Finally, there was weak but significant covariation between diet and morphology: molluscivores were characterized by having an inferior mouth gape, whereas planktivores had an anteriorly directed premaxilla. 相似文献

Male and female of Odaginiceps korykosensis sp. n. (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Tetragonicipitidae), collected in the intertidal zone of Kızkalesi beach along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey (Mersin Province), are described. The new species is the fifth member of the genus and can easily be distinguished from the other species by the presence of four setae/spines on the second endopodal segment of P4 and by the structure of the caudal rami. Previously, representatives of the genus Odaginiceps have been reported from Gulf of Mexico, off Bermuda and Kenya. Odaginiceps korykosensis sp. n. is the first record of the genus in the Mediterranean Sea. 相似文献
