Phytotoxicity originating from the anaerobic decomposition of couch grass rhizomes has been studied. Short chain aliphatic (acetic, propionic and butyric) acids appear to be mainly responsible but hexanoic, succinic, phenylacetic, cinnamic, p-coumaric, 4-hydroxyphenylpropionic and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylpropionic acids are also present in the phytotoxic solutions formed during the decomposition.  相似文献

The effects of irrigation and fertiliser regimes on N leaching from the production of couch grass (Cynodon dactylon L.) sod, on a free-draining sandy soil, were evaluated in a 22-month field study. The experimental design used a randomised-block, split-plot design with three replicates. Main plots consisted of two irrigation treatments: 70 and 140% daily replacement of pan evaporation; four subplot fertiliser types (water-soluble (predominately NH4NO3), control-release, pelletised poultry manure and pelletised biosolids); and three N application rates (100, 200 and 300 kg N ha−1 per crop). Nitrogen leaching was assessed by measuring the leachate volumes and concentrations of N species leached from soil lysimeters (250 mm in diameter by 950 mm in length) installed in 10 m2 turfgrass plots. Nitrogen leaching ranged from 33 to 167 kg N ha−1 over 22 months, depending upon the irrigation and fertiliser treatment. Irrigation treatment affected N leaching more than fertiliser treatment, and increasing the irrigation from 70 to 140% replacement of daily pan evaporation increased N leaching for all fertiliser types, and by up to four times. Forty six to 76% of losses occurred from the high irrigation treatments during the first 16 weeks after the turfgrass was planted as rhizomes. By contrast, N leaching did not appear to increase following harvest of sod. At the high irrigation treatment, N leaching was greater for the pelletised biosolids than the control-release; while at the low irrigation treatment, N leaching did not vary between fertiliser types. A significant proportion of the N leached was in the organic form. Therefore, we recommend total N and mineral N be measured when assessing N leaching from turfgrass. Nitrogen leaching from turfgrass production is low from all fertiliser types when the irrigation matches turfgrass water use and N is applied at a rate and frequency that approximates turfgrass requirements. Aim

In this study, at different fields, energies and gantry angles, treatment couch and rails dose absorption ratio and treatment couch effect on surface and build-up region doses were examined.

Background

It is assumed that radiation attenuation is minimal because the carbon fiber couches have low density and it is not generally accounted for during treatment planning. Consequently, it leads to a major dosimetric mistake.

Materials and methods

Solid water phantom was used for relative dose measurement. The measurements were done using a Farmer ion chamber with 0.6 cc volume and a parallel plane ion chamber starting from surface with 1 mm depth intervals at 10 × 10 cm2 field, SSD 100 cm. Measurements were taken for situations where the beams intersect the couch and couch rails.

Results

Dose absorption ratio of carbon fiber couch obtained at gantry angle of 180° was 1.52%, 0.69%, 0.33% and 0.25% at different field sizes for 6 MV. For 15 MV, this ratio was 0.95%, 0.27%, 0.20% and 0.05%. The absorption ratio is between 3.4% and 1.22% when the beams intersect with couch rails. The couch effect increased surface dose from 14% to 70% for 6 MV and from 11.34% to 53.03% for 15 MV.

Conclusions

The results showed that the carbon fiber couch increased surface dose during posterior irradiation. Therefore, the skin-sparing effect of the high energy beams was decreased. If the effect of couch is not considered, it may cause significant differences at dose which reaches the patient and may cause tissue problems such as erythema.  相似文献

A robotic couch capable of six degrees of freedom (6-DoF) of motion was introduced for state-of-the-art radiation therapy. Patient treatment requires precise quality assurance (QA) of 6-DoF. Unfortunately, conventional methods do not provide the requisite accuracy and precision. Therefore, we developed a high-precision automated QA system using a visual tracking system (VTS). The VTS comprises four motion-sensing cameras, a cube with infrared reflective markers. To acquire data in treatment room coordinates, a transformation matrix from VTS coordinates to treatment room coordinates was determined.The mean error and standard deviation of linear and rotational motions, as well as couch sagging were analyzed from continuously acquired images in the moving couch. The accuracy of VTS was 0.024 mm deviation for the sinusoidal motion, and the accuracy of the transformation matrix was 0.02 mm. In a cross-comparison, the difference between Laser Tracker (FARO) measurements was 0.14 ± 0.12 mm for translation and 0.032 ± 0.026° on average for yaw rotation. The new system provides QA of yaw, pitch and roll motion as well as sagging of the couch and sub-millimeter/degree accuracy together with precision.  相似文献

PurposeTo present our methods and results regarding the modeling of a carbon fiber couch (Varian Exact IGRT) in the RayStation treatment planning system (TPS).MethodsThree geometrical-models (GMs) were implemented in the TPS to represent the three different regions of the couch (thick, medium and thin). The materials and densities of each GM component were tuned to maximize the agreement between measured and calculated attenuations. Moreover, a couch computed-tomography (CT) scan was acquired and dosimetrically compared with the GMs. For validation, plan-specific quality assurance (QA) of VMAT plans (TG-119 cases, 5 prostate and 5 H&N clinical cases) was performed by comparing measured dose distributions with doses computed with and without including the GMs in the TPS.ResultsCouch attenuations up to 4.3% were measured (energy: 6MV). Compared to couch CT, GMs could be modified to optimize the agreement with measurements and reduce dependence on the dose grid resolution. For both couch CT and GM, absolute deviations between measured and calculated attenuations were within 1.0%. When including the GMs in plan-specific QA, global 2%/2 mm γ-pass rates showed an average improvement of 4.8% (p-value < 0.001, max +18.6%). The couch reduced the mean dose to targets by up to 2.4% of the prescribed dose for prostate cases and up to 1.4% for H&N cases.ConclusionsRayStation accurately considers the implemented couch GMs replicating measured attenuations within an uncertainty of 1.0%. Materials and densities are proposed for the Varian Exact IGRT couch. The results obtained justify introducing couch GMs in clinical routine.  相似文献

Wheat bulb fly (Delia coarctata Fallen, Diptera: Anthomyiidae) is an important pest of winter wheat in the eastern half of the UK, and in northern and eastern Europe. The larvae must find a host plant and invade a tiller soon after hatching in late January. Chemical controls are costly and weather conditions may reduce their efficacy or prevent their application. Post‐emergence control relies on organophosphate insecticides, which may soon be withdrawn due to concerns about their negative health and environmental effects. Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is the preferred cereal host, but other winter cereals and related grasses may also be attacked, while oats (Avena spp.) are shunned. In choice test bioassays, neonate larvae chose couch grass (Elytrigia repens (L.) Nevski syn. Elymus repens (L.) Gould, Agropyearon repens (L.) Beauv.) seedlings and exudates over wheat seedlings and exudates, and exhibited geotaxis and negative phototaxis. Analysis of larval trails in choice test bioassays of seedling exudates showed that couch exudates are more attractive than wheat exudates, and that wheat exudates are more arrestant than couch exudates. This suggests that infochemicals isolated from couch, wheat, and oats could be used in wheat bulb fly control; possible delivery mechanisms are discussed. These findings, previous research, and a comparison of the phenologies and geographical distributions of D. coarctata and its hosts suggest that E. repens is the natural host of D. coarctata.  相似文献

Abstract  The risk of non-target effects from biological control agents can be reduced if we can better identify effective agents prior to release. Introducing only those agents with high potential for effective control will reduce the number of agents released and reduce the probability of both direct and indirect non-target impacts. Identifying effective agents requires understanding the roles that resources, disturbances and herbivory play in regulating plant populations under natural field conditions. Here we propose a series of experiments that will contrast the mechanisms of population regulation of two invasive wetland plants, alligator weed ( Alternanthera philoxeroides ) and lippia ( Phyla canescens ), with native congener species, Alternanthera denticulata and Phyla nodiflora . We hypothesise that the native plants will have greater growth rates when nutrients are low and herbivores are present, whereas the introduced plants will exhibit greater growth rates when nutrients are high and herbivores are absent.  相似文献

Hybridization, polyploidization, and crop‐to‐wild gene transfer within the agriculturally important tribe Triticeae are well explored experimentally, but the true consequences of both phenomena under natural conditions remain understudied. The present paper reports on an investigation of three species of couch grasses (Elymus hispidus, E. repens, and E. caninus) examining the ploidy levels and absolute genome sizes (1081 plants from 302 natural populations in Central Europe, verified by chromosome counts) and their morphological delimitation. In the present study, the hexaploid level prevailed in E. hispidus and E. repens whereas E. caninus was exclusively tetraploid. Introgressive hybridization between hexaploid species, unidirectionally shifted towards E. hispidus, was indicated by a continual pattern of genome size values. We did not find any evidence for heteroploid hybridization involving tetraploid E. caninus; however, we detected minority cytotypes among both E. caninus plants (hexaploid) and E. repens–E. hispidus hybrids (heptaploid and nonaploid) suggesting the formation of unreduced gametes. Morphometric results (367 plants, redundancy analysis, principal component analysis, and correlation analysis) mirrored the continual homoploid pattern of absolute genome size (including the unidirectional shift), and a significant correlation between absolute genome size and morphology was confirmed. Moreover, morphometric analyses detected additional characteristics for the delimitation of the Elymus taxa under study. Considering the crossability of E. hispidus with Triticum aestivum (bread wheat), the revealed extent of introgressive hybridization has implications for assessing the potential risk of gene flow between crops and troublesome weeds.  相似文献

The agro-ecology of onion couch (Arrhenatherum elatius var. bulbosum), a well known weed of arable land is studied. Contribution of seeds from onion couch and a more widespread variety of Arrhenatherum elatius: tall oat-grass, towards future ingress of onion couch in arable fields has indicated that the tall oat-grass variety is not a potential weed of arable land. It appears that vegetative propagules rather than the seeds are the effective means of propagation of the onion couch variety in arable fields. An experiment performed to test any modifying effect of the soil texture indicated that onion couch is restricted to loamy soils and there is a complete absence from heavy clays and sandy soils. This could be due to the moist and protective micro-environment provided by the texture of the soils to partially buried vegetative propagules of onion couch, which are susceptible to drought.  相似文献

The effects on growth, quality and N uptake by turfgrass (Cynodon dactylon L.) during sod production of four fertiliser types applied at three application rates (100, 200 or 300 kg N ha−1 per ‘crop’) under two irrigation treatments (70% and 140% daily replacement of pan evaporation) were investigated. The fertiliser types were: water-soluble (predominately NH4NO3), control-release, pelletised poultry manure, and pelletised biosolids; and the experiment was conducted on a sandy soil in a Mediterranean-type climate. Plots were established from rhizomes, with the turfgrass harvested as sod every 16–28 weeks depending upon the time of the year. Four crops were produced during the study. Applying water-soluble and control-release fertilisers doubled shoot growth and improved turfgrass greenness by up to 10% in comparison with plots receiving pelletised poultry manure and pelletised biosolids. Nitrogen uptake into the shoots after four crops (averaged across irrigation treatments and N rates) was 497 kg N ha−1 for the water-soluble fertiliser, 402 kg N ha−1 for the control-release, 188 kg N ha−1 for the pelletised poultry manure and 237 kg N ha−1 for the pelletised biosolids. Consequently, the agronomic nitrogen-use efficiency (NAE, kg DM kg−1 N applied) of the inorganic fertilisers was approximately twice that of the organic fertilisers. Increasing irrigation from 70% to 140% replacement of pan evaporation was detrimental to turfgrass growth and N uptake for the first crop when supplied with the water-soluble fertiliser. Under the low irrigation treatment, inorganic N fertilisers applied at 200–300 kg N ha−1 were adequate for production of turfgrass sod. Section Editor: P. J. Randall  相似文献
