Starfish waste has been shown to be an effective compost material not only in the promotion of plant growth but also in terms of having insecticidal activity. In the present study, plant growth regulation by chemicals from starfish was examined. The aqueous fraction from a hot water extract of the starfish Asterias amurensis Lütken showed plant-growth activity, while the aqueous fraction from a methanol extract inhibited growth of Brassica campestris. The lipophilic fraction from the methanol extract also exhibited a plant growth-promoting effect. The active components from each extract were identified. Asterubine from the hot water extract promoted plant growth. A ceramide from the lipophilic fraction showed root growth promoting effect, and three glucocerebrosides had promotive effects on the entire plant. Asterosaponins were identified as the main growth inhibitors in the aqueous fraction of the methanol extract. These active compounds from starfish waste could be analyzed as potential plant growth regulators in agricultural applications in the future.  相似文献

Synopsis Radio telemetry was used to study the movements of European eels,Anguilla anguilla, in a small (1.2 ha) lake in southwestern Spain in March and April, 1985. Observations were taken on the locations of 7 eels at least once each 2 h for a combined total of 1713 h. The size of individual activity regions varied from 2700 to 1300 m2. Eels covered a larger area at night than during the day, with an average of 23% and 42% of the activity region used during the day and night respectively. Average distance moved between observations was significantly greater at night than in the day. Eels tracked during rainy and cloudy weather were more active during the day and used a larger total area than did those tracked during drier, more stable weather. The standing crop of eels was estimated to be about 77 kg ha–1.  相似文献

Summary We document activity field temperatures, daily activity patterns, and extent of thermoregulation in four species of Liolaemus lizards inhabiting at high altitude (above 3500 m) in the Andes of northern Chile. These four species have similar activity field temperature (Tb near 29°C) despite their being distributed at different altitudinal belts. However, conspicuous differences exist between higher-altitude (L. alticolor and L. jamesi) and lower-altitude (L. islugensis and L. ornatus) lizards regarding extent of thermoregulation and activity period. Some differences in morphology, behavior, and patterns of microhabitat occupancy are also apparent among these four species and are seemingly related to the thermal environment to which they are subjected. In comparison to eight low-altitude Liolaemus species in central Chile (Tb near 35°C) the four high-altitude species in northern Chile have lower activity field temperature. The latter is apparently due to the constraints imposed by the harsh Andean thermal environment, a hypothesis supported by the fact that high-altitude Liolaemus lizards under laboratory conditions demonstrate body temperatures that exceed by 5°C or more, those recorded in the field.  相似文献

人肌肌酸激酶胍变性时的失活与构象变化的比较研究   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
应用二阶导数光谱、紫外差吸收光谱和荧光光谱等监测手段,研究了人肌肌酸激酶在盐酸胍溶液中的构象变化。二阶导数光谱结果表明,若以6M盐酸胍中肌酸激酶酪氨酸残基的暴露程度为100%,则天然酶酪氨酸残基的暴露程度只有2%。而紫外差吸收光谱和荧光光谱的变化与兔肌肌酸激酶的结果相似。比较不同胍浓度下人肌肌酸激酶的失活与构象变化,表明酶的失活先于构象变化。同时还测定了不同浓度胍溶液中人肌酶的失活与构象变化的速度常数。结果表明以几种方法测定的构象变化均为单相的一级过程,而酶的失活却呈现了由快慢两相组成的一级反应过程。比较同浓度胍溶液中的失活速度与构象变化速度,发现酶失活的快相反应速度常数比构象变化的速度常数大1—2个数量级,慢相速度常数与构象变化速度常数相近。上述结果进一步支持了酶的活性部位构象柔性的观点。  相似文献

The thermodynamic treatment of the disproportionation reaction of adenosine 5′-diphosphate to adenosine 5′-triphosphate and adenosine 5′-monophosphate is discussed in terms of an equilibrium model which includes the effects of the multiplicity of ionic and metal bound species and the presence of long range electrostatic and short range repulsive interactions. Calculated quantities include equilibrium constants, enthalpies, heat capacities, entropies, and the stoichiometry of the overall reaction. The matter of how these calculations can be made self-consistent with respect to both calculated values of the ionic strength and the molality of the free magnesium ion is discussed. The thermodynamic data involving proton and magnesium-ion binding data for the nucleotides involved in this reaction have been evaluated.  相似文献

Synopsis It is commonly accepted that more active fishes have a greater proportion of red muscle in their trunk musculature than do less active fishes. Further, the proportion of red muscle has been used to classify fish species into functional groups reflecting different activity patterns. Nevertheless, existing measures of both red muscle and mobility have several limitations, and the relationship between these parameters has never been evaluated quantitatively. Using data from the literature, we demonstrate a positive, statistical association between the proportion of red muscle in the caudal peduncle of marine fishes and a qualitative measure of mobility (categorization as sedentary vs. mobile based on natural-history accounts). Analyses of the frequency distribution of the proportion of red muscle also provide evidence for two subdistributions. However, this bimodality does not correspond with sedentary vs. mobile or sit-and-wait vs. active search dichotomies.  相似文献

Summary Surface soil materials from the 0- to 15 cm depth of 12 sites that were suspected to contain high levels of P, as a result of years of repeated applications of either inorganic or organic P fertilizers, were cropped with wheat and alfalfa in the greenhouse for about one year. The total P removed in plant materials provided an estimate of the plant available P in the soils. The probable dominant phosphate compound controlling the release of P in the soil solution during cropping was determined using the GEOCHEM program and an activity diagram. The data show that P availability is partly dependent on the stability of the phosphate compound present, although the relative positions of the points on the activity diagram show no quantitative relationship with either the total plant P uptake or the phosphate buffering capacity of the soils. The positions of the points, however, indicate that with time the formation of more stable P compounds during cropping could be attributed to reactions in the soil as well as to crop removal. The more soluble compounds could have recrystallized or were transformed into compounds of lower solubility. There is also the possibility that the more soluble P compounds were exhausted by crop removal leaving behind the less soluble compounds.  相似文献

Cytosolic functions obtained from various bovine tissues was individually subjected to column isoelectric focusing in order to resolve the glutathione S-transferase isoenzymes. The results showed a large variability in the isoenzyme pattern. All the tissues were found to have neutral-acidic forms of the enzyme, whilst liver, adrenal gland, testicle, lung and kydney contained a conspicuous amount of activity associated with the cationic forms of the enzyme. In spite of these differences, by comparison of the conjugating activity of transferases, we did not find essential inter-organ variations. Conversely, when the same tissue samples were tested for selenium independent glutathione peroxidase activity, using cumene hydroperoxide as second substrate, we observed a higher activity in the organs having the cationic form of glutathione S-transferase.  相似文献
