The acidified lakes Lake Gårdsjön and Lake Stora Hästevatten the reference lake have been monitored since 1979 and 1980 respectively. The lakes are situated in SW Sweden; in an area severly affected by acid deposition. Lake Gårdsjön was limed in spring 1982. This paper analyses changes in nutrient concentrations upon liming of Lake Gårdsjön. The liming of Lake Gårdsjön was followed by a slight increase in ammonium, nitrate, and dissolved organic nitrogen concentrations. A drastic decrease occurred in particulate nitrogen and particulate carbon, whereas dissolved organic carbon increased. Total phosphorus and particulate phosphorus concentrations were similar to pre-limed conditions. The long-term decrease in phosphorus concentration, exhibited by the reference lake, was not identified in Lake Gårdsjön after liming, but total phosphorus concentration was still less than half compared to Lake Gårdsjön in the early 1970's. Additional measures such as phosphorus fertilization, should in certain cases be considered in addition to liming if the goal is to restore lakes to their pre-acidic conditions. 相似文献

Metabolites of corticosteroids that contain the 21-oic acid moiety are found in human urine. The acids from neutral steroids and urinary pigments have been separated by passing the mixture through a column of polyethyleneimine cellulose. The acids adhering to the column are quantitatively eluted with dilute formic acid. The purified preparation is suitable for derivatization and chromatographic analysis. 相似文献

We have developed a new mini-procedure for isolation of total cellular DNA from date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.). The procedure, which does not use liquid nitrogen, has proved useful due to temporary disruptions in supplies of liquid nitrogen that occur in countries where date palm trees are cultivated. BackgroundBlood product supply and utilization are understudied in Saudi Arabia. This study evaluates the trends in Saudi blood banks readiness, donors’ demography, and blood product utilization and wastage.Study design and methodsA retrospective, cross-sectional study of records obtained from the Ministry of Health (MOH) was initiated to report trends and statistics on annual whole blood donors and blood product utility from 2010 to 2020. Data collected in 2020 was further characterized for donors’ demographics, laboratory readiness, and staffing.ResultsThe average number of annual blood donors over the last decade (2010–2020) was 325,847.3 ± 43,160. The forecasted blood donation and dispatch trends suggest a significant increase in blood demand (R2 = 0.7582) over annual donation rates (R2 = 0.2356). In 2020, 342,460 nationwide blood donations were registered in governmental donation centers and females constituted a mere 2.5 %. Approximately 60 % of whole blood donation was voluntary, 36% was compensatory, and 4% was part of driving license renewal. The highest blood donation rate per 1,000 inhabitants was observed in Taif (69.8) and Alqonfoda (45.0). Eastern directory and Madinah had the most successful donation campaigns attracting 53% and 50% of total annual donations, respectively. Notably, Tabouk, Hai’l, and Albaha had the highest blood product wastage medians.ConclusionBlood donation rates and impetus, staffing ratios, and laboratory readiness and wastage varied among the various directories. Laboratory managers and medical directors need to increase efforts to refine current guidelines in order to comply with the transformation plan of the health sector. 相似文献

以半矮秆育种为代表的“绿色革命”极大地提高了作物产量,但也带来氮营养利用效率降低的严重问题。“绿色革命”主要基于调控赤霉素的代谢和信号转导而实现。前期的研究发现,赤霉素信号转导关键因子DELLA蛋白通过调控GRF4而负调控氮素的吸收利用,为半矮秆品系氮利用效率低的问题提供了解决方案。最近的一项研究进一步揭示了GA信号途径与氮响应交叉互作的新机制。该研究发现水稻(Oryza sativa)NGR5是氮素调控分蘖数目的一个关键基因,其表达受氮诱导。通过招募PRC2,NGR5对D14和OsSPL14等分蘖抑制基因所在位点进行H3K27me3甲基化修饰,从而抑制其表达。而在半矮秆背景下超表达NGR5可以提高低氮水平下的水稻产量。NGR5同时也被发现为赤霉素受体GID1的一个新靶标,受到其负调控。该研究发现了调控赤霉素信号通路的新机制,并对高产高效的新一代“绿色革命”育种实践具有重要启示。 相似文献

Summary Between 3 Nov. 1983 and 9 Apr. 1984, six applications of fertiliser N (ammonium, nitrate or urea) were given to four autumn
sown (26 Oct. 1983)Vicia faba L cultivars, Banner Winter (BW) and Maris Beagle (MBg), cold tolerant cultivars normally sown in the autumn, and Herz Freya
(HF) and Maris Bead (MBd), cold sensitive cultivars more commonly sown in the spring. The effects of additional N were determined
by comparison with plants given zero-N (controls).
Application of N, regardless of form, had no effect on % emergence at the first sampling (15 Dec. 1983); >90% for BW, MBg
and HF, but only 40–60% for MBd. At this time the dry weight, carbon content and nitrogen content of all cultivars was approximately
20% less than that of the seed on planting. No more plants emerged after 15 Dec. 1983. Between 15 Dec. 1983 and 20 Feb. 1984,
all cultivars, regardless of N treatment, showed little change in dry weight, carbon content and nitrogen content but the
proportion of total plant dry weight, carbon content and nitrogen content in the cotyledons decreased while the proportions
in root, stem and leaf tissue increased. On 20 Feb. 1984 there were no N effects. All cultivars but especially BW and MBg,
showed progressive increases in dry weight, carbon content and nitrogen content during the period 20 Feb. 1984 to 8 May 1984.
Pooled results for all four cultivars indicated that on 8 May 1984, plants given ammonium and urea had a greater dry weight,
carbon content and nitrogen content than controls.
At harvest (1–3 Sep. 1984), BW and MBg outyielded (g dw seed m−2) HF and MBd. Pooled results for all cultivars indicated that application of N regardless of form gave increased yield and

The decapod cardiovascular system consists of a single ventricle that pumps blood into seven arteries; previous work has
shown that the outflow distribution patterns of intact animals are variable. In the present study, flow recordings were made
from pairs of arteries in semi-isolated hearts whilst different cardioactive hormones were infused into the heart. Each hormone
(5-hydroxytryptamine, octopamine, dopamine, proctolin and F1) changed the outflow pattern, heart rate and ventricular pressure
in a unique way. The probable sites of hormone action are the cardioarterial valves located at the origin of each artery except
one, the dorsal abdominal. Outflow from the dorsal abdominal is controlled downstream by valves located at the origin of the
segmental lateral arteries. The responses to a particular hormone were sometimes different between the hearts of American
and Japanese lobsters.

A selective procedure using synthetic substrates for determination of exo-1,4,-beta-glucanases in a mixture of exoglucanases , endoglucanases , and beta-glucosidases is formulated. The heterobiosides , p- nithrophenyl -beta-D- cellobioside ( pNPC ) or p-nitrophenyl-beta-D-lactoside ( pNPL ), were used as selective substrates for the measurement of exoglucanase activity. The exoglucanases (especially cellobiohydrolases , which split off cellobiose units from the nonreducing end of the cellulose chain) specifically act on the agluconic bond (between p-nitrophenyl and the disaccharide moiety) and not on the holosidic bond (between the two glucose units of cellobiose). The interfering effect of beta-glucosidase, which acts on both agluconic and holosidic bonds, is overcome by the addition of D-glucono-1,5-delta-lactone, a specific inhibitor of beta-glucosidases. The interference of endoglucanases , which also act on both agluconic and holosidic bonds, can be compensated for by prior standardization of the assay procedure with a purified endoglucanase from the studied mixture of cellulases. 相似文献
