Germany is situated on the western border of the distribution area of moose (Alces alces) in Europe. In the past, the number of moose sightings has been very limited and irregular in the state of Bavaria (SE Germany). Nearby populations of moose are located in neighboring countries to the east of Germany, in the Czech Republic, and Poland. A monitoring system for moose was established following a considerable increase in moose observations in Bavaria in 2007. As no reproduction has yet been recorded, moose observation has so far been attributed only to migrating individuals. Cows are more often registered than bulls (27 of 35 observations between 2004 and 2008). The reasons for the increase in migratory activities of moose have not yet been identified.  相似文献

In this note the taxonomic position of the tiny eomyid genus Keramidomys (Hartenberger, 1967) from the Early/Middle Miocene boundary locality of Sandelzhausen in the Bavarian Upper Freshwater Molasse is reexamined. As the chronological dating of the Sandelzhausen fossil site has been modified in the past from formerly the Neogene mammal unit MN6 to now MN5 and thanks to new abundant material this rodent is compared with other European forms. It is shown that the Sandelzhausen eomyid must be called K. thaleri Hugueney & Mein, 1968 on the basis of several morphological dental differences from K. carpathicus Schaub & Zapfe, 1953. This rodent seems to be an immigrant from East Asia into Europe. Even if K. thaleri is known in many European localities, all correlated to MN5, it is always a rare element of European rodent faunas. Differentiation from K. carpathicus is not easy and requires a sufficiently large sample.   相似文献

The COVID‐19 pandemic has led to temporary changes in human–animal interactions due to changes in human activities. Here, we report on a surge in hedgehog observations during the first COVID‐19 lockdown in Germany in 2020, on the citizen science Web portal “Igel in Bayern” (Hedgehogs in Bavaria) in Germany. This increase in comparison with previous years was attributed to an increase in the number of people reporting hedgehog observations, rather than an increase in the number of hedgehog observations made by each observer. Additionally, in contrast to other studies on the effects of a COVID‐19 lockdown on observations recorded by citizen science projects, the share of observations made in more urbanized areas during the lockdown time was not higher than the change observed in less urbanized areas. This is possibly a result of the differences in COVID‐19 measures between Germany and other countries where preceding studies were carried out, in particular the lack of measures limiting traveling outdoor activities for citizens.  相似文献

We studied the foraging behaviour of Rhinolophus hipposideros on the island “Herrenchiemsee” in Lake Chiemsee (Upper Bavaria) during summer 2001. The island offers extensively managed woodlands, highly structured open landscapes and a broad reed belt around the shore. On average the flight activity of the 6 radio tracked females outside the roost lasted 229 min per night. The home range size varied between 6.8 and 62.7 ha (mean 25.2 ha). The size of the activity centres varied between 2.8 and 8.2 ha (mean 5.3) and all except one were located almost exclusively in woodland. Within woodlands the bats did not select for specific spatial structures (different age classes of the stands or canopy densities). Only two bats regularly foraged in additional habitats outside woodlands. One of these bats used orchards and tree rows; the other foraged over artificial ponds and gardens adjoining to its woodland foraging area. We never found the bats foraging over the lake or the reed belt. Longer linear landscape elements as tree lines were used during commuting flights but there was no indication of a continuous foraging activity along these elements. Two females left the island to forage on the mainland in August after the fledging of juveniles. To reach the mainland shore, the bats had to fly at least 1.2 km across the lake.

Assuming that most foraging flights on the island occur in woodlands, a bat density in this habitat type of 0.7 bats/ha can be calculated.  相似文献

Summary Microfacies-based provenance analysis of Roman mosaics found in Southern Bavaria near Augsburg indicates the use of Mesozoic carbonates and sandstones occurring as boulders within Pleistocene and Holocene deposits near to the mosaic sites. In addition, local allochthonous Late Jurassic ooid-peloid grainstones were used for the fabrication of white tesserae. Microfacies criteria provide a means for evaluating the original location of sculptures as demonstrated by the study of the head of a Roman Goddess made of Alpine Late Triassic limestone.  相似文献

In running waters, apart from structural degradation, nutrient input becomes increasingly important. To investigate the indicator values of as many species of submerged macrophytes as possible numerous samples of the sediment within macrophyte stands and the overlying water were taken in running waters throughout Bavaria, Germany. To develop the Trophic Index of Macrophytes (TIM), the concentrations of soluble reactive phosphorus of both the water body and the sediment pore water were used. Based on a weighted sum of the SRP‐concentrations of the water body and the sediment pore water, indicator values were determined for a total of 49 species of submerged macrophytes. A detailed method is described on how and depending on which preconditions the trophic state of running waters can be determined by the TIM. An example of the TIM in the stream Rotbach is given. It shows that the TIM is a useful means to detect differences in the phosphorus loading of running waters.  相似文献

Summary As genetic diversity is an important cause of variation in needle monoterpenes of conifers, the tree-to-tree variation was studied for Picea abies (L.) Karst. at eight different locations in three mountainous regions of southern Germany (Bavaria). The tree-to-tree variation, expressed by the coefficients of variation, is high, ranging between 50% and 70%. The maximum concentrations per tree are up to 10 times higher than the minimum ones. The trees from all locations show similar patterns of variation, which is significant when investigating the influence of external parameters like air pollution or infestation by pathogens. By means of cluster analysis five types of terpene patterns were clearly revealed. Two main groups were distinguished by their proportion of myrcene, and they are further divided into subgroups. The patterns are stable throughout different needle ages and dates of sampling. Apart from one location, there is no obvious geographical arrangement of the five patterns. The fact that no relationship exists between the genotypical classification and the total concentrations agrees well with the hypothesis that most of the variability based on the relative amounts is due to genetic variation, whereas the variation based on the absolute amounts reflects environmental factors.  相似文献

Summary During the Middle and early Late Triassic carbonate ramps and rimmed platforms developed at the northwestern margin of the Tethys ocean. In the Northern Calcareous Alps, Anisian stacked homoclinal ramps evolved through a transitional stage with distally steepened ramps to huge rimmed platforms of Late Ladinian to Early Carnian age. Middle Triassic to early Late Triassic facies and biota of basin, slope and platform depositional systems are described. Special emphasis is given to foraminifers, sponges, microproblematic organisms and algae. The Ladinian to early Carnian reef associations are characterized by the abundance of segmented sponges, microproblematica, biogenic crusts and synsedimentary cements. Among the foraminifers, recifal forms likeHydrania dulloi andCucurbita infundibuliformis (Carnian in age) are reported from the Northern Calcareous Alps for the first time. Some sphinctozoid sponges likeParavesicocaulis concentricus were known until now only from the Hungarian and Russian Triassic.  相似文献
