Professor Ko Shimamoto （1949-2013）

Sadly, Prof. Ko Shimamoto died on September 28, 2013, aged 63. He was born in Wakayama, Japan, on October 19, 1949, received his bachelor＇s degree in Agriculture from Kyoto University in 1974 and his PhD in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1980. After his postdoctoral training at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel, Switzerland,

Most of the materials studied by Dr Schenkel were deposited in Paris, only a small part deposited in Natural History Museum of Basel （NMB）, including 7 linyphiid species collected from China. These comprise two parts： one part was collected by muscovite tourist/researcher G. N. Potanin between 1885-1886; another part was collected by Dr D. Hummel in an expedition to Northwest China under the leadership of Dr S. Hedin and Prof.
