Relict or ancient microbial communities in extreme environment might be analogous to the centers of origin of bacterial diversity. A bacterial community of an alkaline lake was investigated, and the diversity of bacteria found there indicates that both conditions of autonomy and phylogenetic variety are fulfilled for anaerobic bacteria developing at pH 10±0.2. Major functional groups in the trophic network were present. Representatives of proteolytic, bacteriolytic, cellulolytic, saccharolytic, dissipotrophic, acetogenic, sulfate-reducing, methanogenic bacteria were isolated.  相似文献

In a culture of filamentous cyanobacteriumMicrocoleus chthonoplastes under high phosphorus content and the presence of NaF, formation of aggregated microtubes of 0.8–1.0 m in diameter was obtained. Microtubes contain calcium and phosphorus. These filamentous structures do not represent fossilized bacteria.  相似文献

The process of biological N2O elimination under oxidative conditions has been discribed. It was performed by samples of soil, litter, water, ooze, sewage and compost. The process differs from denitrification, is not accompanied with dinitrogen formation and its rate is maximal at 15% of oxygen in the gaseous phase. Acetylene, an inhibitor of denitrification has no effect on elimination of nitrous oxide under oxidative conditions.  相似文献

The quantity and the qualitative composition (for some species) of phenolic compounds (PC) washed out of the intact thalli of lichens of the orders Peltigerales (the genera Peltigera, Solorina, and Nephroma) and Lecanorales (the genera Cladonia, Alectoria, and Cetraria) were studied. It was shown that the quantity of leachable PCs in Peltigerales was on average 2–3 times higher than in Lecanorales. At the same time, the extractability of PC from intact thalli by water was higher in Lecanorales than in Peltigerales: 48–88% and 34–70%, respectively, of the PC content in ethanol extracts from crushed thalli (i.e., of the total content of soluble PC). Water-soluble PC in the lichens Peltigera aphthosa, Solorina crocea, Cetraria islandica, Flavocetraria nivalis, Cladonia uncialis, and Cladonia arbuscula were represented by 7–12 phenolic compounds with similar qualitative composition in the species of the same order. The most part of water soluble PC were phenylpropanoids. All of the studied species showed the presence of p-hydroxybenzoic acid derivatives; vanillic and protocatechuic acid derivatives were found in Cetraria and Cladonia species, respectively.  相似文献

The activity of carbonic anhydrase (CA) was studied in different cell fractions of the alkaliphilic cyanobacterium Microcoleus chthonoplastes. The activity of this enzyme was found in the soluble and membrane protein fractions, as well as in intact cells and in a thick glycocalyx layer enclosing the cyanobacterium cells. The localization of CA in glycocalyx of M. chthonoplastes was shown by western blot analysis and by immunoelectron microscopy studies with antibodies to the thylakoid CA from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (Cah3). At least one of the CA forms occurring in M. chthonoplastes CA was shown to be an -type enzyme. A possible mechanism of the involvement of the glycocalyx CA in calcification of cyanobacteria is discussed.  相似文献

Due to a chain of circumstances, some of them caused by unfavorable events, the Institute of Microbiology (INMI), Russian Academy of Sciences, continued the tradition of the "golden age" of microbiology of Winogradsky's time. The interest was focused on functional diversity of microorganisms as catalysts of natural chemical processes. The concept of a morphophysiological genus continues to play the key role in general microbiology, serving as an operational entity of the science. Researchers affiliated with INMI pioneered in describing 60 genera, constituting more than 4.9% of the 1228 validated genus designations as of January 1, 2004, and more than 6% of the nonpathogenic cultivable genera deposited at DSMZ. In addition to the formal biodiversity, other aspects of physiological and ecological diversity described by different classification schemes are considered. More recent findings were mostly in the field of alkaliphiles, acidophiles, thermophiles, and halophilic anaerobes, proliferating in extreme environments. Attempts to work out classifications of microorganisms with prognostic potential are presented.  相似文献

The effect of carbonate concentration, pH of the medium, and illumination intensity on the major physiological characteristics (growth rate and the intensities of CO2 assimilation and oxygen photoproduction) of the natronophilic cyanobacterium Euhalothece sp. Z-M001 have been studied. It was established that the investigated microorganism has at least two transport systems (TS) for CO2, which differ in both the pH optimum and substrate affinity: TS I has a pHopt 9.4–9.5 and a K S 0.5 of 13–17 mM, whereas TS II has a pHopt 9.9–10.2 and a K S 0.5 of 600–800 mM. The substrate affinity of these transport systems is several orders of magnitude lower than the substrate affinity of the transport systems of freshwater cyanobacteria. It is suggested that they are unique for extremely alkaliphilic cyanobacteria and reflect their adaptation to the seasonal cycles of the lake hydrochemistry.  相似文献
