It has been previously reported that Nigella sativa oil (NSO) and thymoquinone (TQ), active constituent of N. sativa seeds oil, may prevent oxidative injury in various models. Therefore, we considered the possible effect of TQ and NSO on lipid peroxidation level following cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in rat hippocampus. Male NMRI rats were divided into nine groups, namely, sham, control, ischemia and ischemia treated with NSO or TQ. TQ (2.5, 5 and 10 mg/kg), NSO (0.048, 0.192 and 0.384 mg/kg), phenytoin (50 mg/kg, as positive control) and saline (10 ml/kg, as negative control) were injected intraperitoneally immediately after reperfusion and the administration was continued every 24h for 72 h after induction of ischemia. The transient global cerebral ischemia was induced using four-vessel-occlusion method for 20 min. Lipid peroxidation level in hippocampus portion was measured as malondialdehyde (MDA) based on its reaction with thiobarbituric acid (TBA) following ischemic insult. The transient global cerebral ischemia induced a significant increase in TBA reactive substances (TBARS) level (p<0.001), in comparison with sham-operated animal. Pretreatment with TQ and NSO were resulted a significant decrease in MDA level as compared with ischemic group (66.9+/-1.5 vs. 297+/-2.5 nmol/g tissue for TQ, 10 mg/kg; p<0.001 and 153.5+/-1.3 nmol/g tissue for NSO, 0.384 mg/kg; p<0.001). Using a reversed-phase HPLC system, the amount of TQ in NSO was also quantified and was 0.58% w/w. These results suggest that TQ and NSO may have protective effects on lipid peroxidation process during IRI in rat hippocampus.  相似文献

Almond and its related wild species, which are widely distributed in Central and West Asia, have high genetic variation. This is an important source of genetic diversity for crop improvement. In this study a set of 32 SSR and 12 EST-SSR primer pairs were used to determine genetic diversity in 89 accessions of almond and other Prunus species. Most of the accessions (68) were collected from natural habitats of Iran. SSR primers amplified higher numbers of alleles than EST-SSR markers and discriminated genotypes more effectively. Results indicated high diversity among accessions. Observed heterozygosity (Ho) was 0.581. Nei’s index of diversity (He) and average number of alleles per locus (na) were 0.885 and 34, respectively. The mean value of polymorphism information content (PIC) was 0.874. The average Fst (F-statistics index) was 0.271 and the fixation index (Fis) was 0.151. Estimated variance among putative populations (AP) and individuals (AI) and within individuals (WI) were 5, 35, and 60%, respectively, which revealed that most of the variation was distributed among individuals rather than groups. Cultivated almonds were highly similar to P. fenzeliana, which is native to West Asia, supporting the importance of these regions in almond domestication. In the dendrogram of groups, minimum genetic distance was observed between Amygdalus and Orientalis groups from the Euamygdalus section. The Leptopus and Chameamygdalus sections were more distant from almonds than plums. The results also showed Dodecandra (Lycioides) series should be taxonomically classified closer to the section Euamygdalus.  相似文献

Zinc polycarboxylate cement is one of the few dental materials that demonstrate true adhesion to tooth structure. It is suitable for use in living organisms without causing harm. Its strong adhesion to teeth and low level of irritancy are two important parameters for the dental applications. In this study, the dosimetry properties of zinc polycarboxylate cement using thermoluminescence (TL) method were investigated and determined the effectiveness of its use as a good dosimeter. According to the results of this study, the sample shows a good TL properties with three main peaks found around 140°C, 220°C and 330°C. It has a wide linear dose response between 72 Gy and 2.3 kGy and good reusability of the TL peak found at 330°C. Unfortunately, the TL peak intensity values are rapidly faded within a short waiting time interval. Zinc polycarboxylate cement, which is frequently used in dental crowns, can be used as a retrospective dosimeter for measuring the amount of radiation in space studies and nuclear accidents due to its wide linear dose–response curve in the high dose region.  相似文献

Aim

The aim of this study is to evaluate the dose distribution of the Flexisource 192Ir source.

Background

Dosimetric evaluation of brachytherapy sources is recommended by task group number 43 (TG. 43) of American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).

Materials and methods

MCNPX code was used to simulate Flexisource 192Ir source. Dose rate constant and radial dose function were obtained for water and soft tissue phantoms and compared with previous data on this source. Furthermore, dose rate along the transverse axis was obtained by simulation of the Flexisource and a point source and the obtained data were compared with those from Flexiplan treatment planning system (TPS).

Results

The values of dose rate constant obtained for water and soft tissue phantoms were equal to 1.108 and 1.106, respectively. The values of the radial dose function are listed in the form of tabulated data. The values of dose rate (cGy/s) obtained are shown in the form of tabulated data and figures. The maximum difference between TPS and Monte Carlo (MC) dose rate values was 11% in a water phantom at 6.0 cm from the source.

Conclusion

Based on dosimetric parameter comparisons with values previously published, the accuracy of our simulation of Flexisource 192Ir was verified. The results of dose rate constant and radial dose function in water and soft tissue phantoms were the same for Flexisource and point sources. For Flexisource 192Ir source, the results of TPS calculations in a water phantom were in agreement with the simulations within the calculation uncertainties. Furthermore, the results from the TPS calculation for Flexisource and MC calculation for a point source were practically equal within the calculation uncertainties.  相似文献

Pumice is a low-density, light-coloured volcanic rock (igneous rock) formed when the magma from a volcanic eruption is suddenly cooled. It has a porous structure and can be different colours and have different densities. Pumice stone, unlike other rock, does not sink in water because it has a low density. In the present study, the thermoluminescent (TL) dosimetric characteristics, such as the dose–response, TL signal fading as a function of storage time, heating rate, and reusability of pumice collected on the Mediterranean coast were investigated. From this study, it was concluded that the pumice stone showed TL properties with a TL glow curve including an obviously wide peak at ∼200°C. A wide linear dose–response region up to 144 Gy, low fading of the TL signal when it was kept in a dark room for a long time, and poor reusability properties were observed for dosimetry use.  相似文献
