The taxonomic characteristics of weeds such as morphology of shoot, leaves, flowers, stem, fruits and seeds were recorded as Gynandropsis pentaphylla, DC, Amarantus spinosus Linn, Cyperus rotundus, Amarantus viridis Linn, Cassia occidentalis, Linn and Echinochilora orygicola. Totally 20 actinobacteria isolates were screened for herbicidal activity against the weed. Among the 20 isolates, only four actinobacterial isolates KA1-3, KA1-4, KA1-7 and KA23A showed significant herbicidal activity against C. rotundus. The herbicidal effect of actinobacterial culture filtrates on germination and seedling growth of C. rotundus was tested. The shoot and root growth of C. rotundus was severely affected when compared to control. The potent actinobacterial isolates KA1-4 and KA1-7 were characterised based on their morphological and molecular phylogenetic property and were identified as Streptomyces sp. The present study concludes that actinobacterial isolates will be used as bioherbicide against C. rotundus. Further studies are required to confirm the activity of actinobacterial isolates against C. rotundus under field conditions.  相似文献

The present study was carried out to analyze chemical constituents and antibacterial activity of ethanolic leaf extract of Cardiospermum halicacabum (ECH). The FT-IR spectrum confirmed the presence of alcohols, phenols, alkanes, alkynes, aliphatic ester and flavonoids in ECH. The GC–MS analysis revealed that ECH contained about twenty four compounds. The major chemical compounds identified were cyclohexane-1, 4, 5-triol-3-one-1-carboxylic acid, benzene acetic acid, caryophyllene, phytol and neophytadiene. The ECH was screened for its antibacterial activity against different bacterial strains and anti fungal activity against Candida albicans by agar well diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay. ECH exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activity. All the tested bacterial strains showed MIC values ranging from 80 to 125 μg of extract/ml and C. albicans showed 190 μg of extract/ml as a MIC. The maximum activity ECH was observed against human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus followed by Escherichia coli and the fish pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila. ECH exhibited moderate activity against some of the tested multidrug resistant strains.  相似文献

The challenging task of bringing high efficiency transformed plants attracts lot of attention in recent times. In search for this, there have been many attempts made using, different techniques like tissue culture and plant breeding methods. Here we report a suitable alternative facile route, where cyanobacterial extracellular products are utilized as growth regulators and its performance validated on Gossypium hirsutum L. MS medium is tested with cyanobacterial extracellular products of Nostoc ellipsosporum, Dolichospermum flos-aquae and Oscillatoria acuminata .Our best results show that the addition of O. acuminata extracellular product with plant growth hormones gives the excellent induction and elongation in cotton. In addition to this, the multiple shoot was obtained on MS medium fortified with 1.0 mg L?1 BA with 8% O. acuminata and 1.5 mg L?1 TDZ with 12% O. acuminata. High frequency of shoot elongation supplemented with MS medium, iP 2.5 mg L?1 and 16% O. acuminata and root production MS medium fortified with 12% O. acuminata best responsible for regeneration in cotton plants. The rooted plants were hardened and transferred to soil with 90% survival rate.  相似文献

Cr(VI) at 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 mg/l was removed over 1–5 days by a freshwater cyanobacterium, Chroococcus sp. 2.5 mg Cr(VI)/l gave the optimum rate. With 5 mg Cr(VI)/l, activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase were increased. Amounts of palmitic (16:0), stearic (18:0) and oleic acid (18:1) in the cell also increased after exposure to Cr(VI).  相似文献

Totally 25 marine soil samples were collected from the region of Palk Strait of Bay of Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and were subjected to the isolation of actinomycetes. Sixty-eight morphologically distinct isolates were obtained and 37% (25) of them had antimicrobial activity. The potential producer was named as Streptomyces sp. VPTS3-1 and the phylogenetic evaluation on the basis of 16S rDNA sequence further categorized the organism as Streptomyces afghaniensis VPTS3-1. Further, the antimicrobial compound was extracted from the isolate using various solvents and the antimicrobial efficacies were tested against bacterial and fungal pathogens. In addition, in vitro optimization of parameters for the antimicrobial compound production revealed that the suitable pH as 7–8, the period of incubation as 9 days, temperature (30°C), salinity (2%), and starch and KNO3 as the suitable carbon and nitrogen sources respectively in starch–casein medium.  相似文献

Studies evaluated the effect of rhizobacterial interactions on a virus under natural conditions of high levels of vector–virus pressure on tomato plants. The rhizobacterium Bacillus subtilis was isolated from the rhizosphere soil of healthy tomato plant and the strain is referred to as BS3A25. The BS3A25 treatment of seeds significantly enhanced tomato seed germination rates to 99% compared to the control seeds at 78%. Combination of both seed and foliar spray treatments significantly protected the plants from cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and also significantly enhanced plant growth. Strain BS3A25 possesses many positive traits such as phosphate solubilization ability, ACC utilization as the sole source of nitrogen and production of significantly higher concentrations of indoles, IAA and the cytokinin, IPA. The growth parameters of the aphid Aphis gossypii Glover such as development time, time from birth to adult (tD) and prereproduction time (td) were longer, whereas the relative growth rate (RGR) and intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm), were found to be lower in the BS3A25 supernatant treatment compared to commercial insecticide imidacloprid treatment. Noticeably, the present study recorded higher activity of phenylalanine ammonia lyase, Peroxidase, total phenols, and polyphenol oxidase in plants treated with BS3A25 generating the speculation of induced defence responses in plants. The results obtained in the field study showed that treatment by BS3A25 formulation as seed and foliar treatment proved highly effective in reducing the aphid population and CMV incidence compared to a commercially available insecticide. The highest cost:benefit ratio (1:2.5) was obtained in BS3A25 formulation treatment followed by imidacloprid (1:2.0) and control plants (1:1.4). These constitute an important step towards the production of BS3A25 as a commercially-available induced resistance agent.  相似文献

Hypersaline Phormidium strains were grown in media amended with naphthalene and anthracene. Phormidium tenue was identified as tolerating and effectively degrading polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that may be toxic in the environment. GC/MS analysis explained the degradation of these compounds by P. tenue. A dioxygenase enzyme system was evident by the formation of anthracene dione as the first degradation compound. This strain could be used for bioremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydorcarbon pollution on seashores.  相似文献

Candida albicans, an opportunistic pathogen, has been known to form hypoxic biofilms on medical devices which in turn confers resistance towards antifungals, resulting in subsequent therapeutic failures. Inclusion of anti-biofilm agents in the control of infections is a topic of current interest in developing potential anti-infectives. The in vitro anti-fungal and anti-biofilm efficacy of 2,4-di-tert-butyl phenol [DTBP] was evaluated in this study, which revealed the potential fungicidal action of DTBP at higher concentrations where fluconazole failed to act completely. DTBP also inhibited the production of hemolysins, phospholipases and secreted aspartyl proteinase which are the crucial virulence factors required for the invasion of C. albicans. Various anti-biofilm assays and morphological observations revealed the efficacy of DTBP in both inhibiting and disrupting biofilms of C. albicans. Inhibition of hyphal development, a key process that aids in initial adhesion of C. albicans, was observed, and this could be a mechanism for the anti-biofilm activity of DTBP.  相似文献

PCR amplification techniques viz., repetitive DNA element PCR (REP-PCR), short tandemly repeated repetitive PCR (STRR-PCR) and arbitrarily primed PCR (RAPD-PCR) were used for the taxonomic discrimination among the strains of the unicellular cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus collected across the coastal regions of the Indian subcontinent. These strains showed similar phenotypic and genotypic characteristics. Data obtained from genomic fingerprinting were used to perform cluster analysis and demonstrated ability to differentiate strains at intra-specific level. Polymorphisms of different PCR amplification products can serve as strain-specific molecular fingerprints. In comparison with the STRR and RAPD, the REP primer set generates fingerprints of lower complexity, but still the phenogram clearly differentiated the strains. In conclusion, described PCR fingerprinting methods can be considered as promising tools for the differentiation at the strain level of cyanobacteria from the same species.  相似文献

The functional interpretation of high throughput metabolomics by mass spectrometry is hindered by the identification of metabolites, a tedious and challenging task. We present a set of computational algorithms which, by leveraging the collective power of metabolic pathways and networks, predict functional activity directly from spectral feature tables without a priori identification of metabolites.
