The flowering of Lemna paucicostata 6746 grown on 14-h photoperiodwas enhanced by the addition of high concentrations of ironto the medium, which also increased the endogenous iron concentration.The addition of asparagine, aspartate, glutamate, -alanine,glycine or serine to the medium also increased the endogenousiron level, resulting in the promotion of flowering. In contrast,the addition of cysteine, cystine, glutamine, arginine, threonineor phenylalanine lowered the endogenous iron level, resultingin the inhibition of flowering. Glycine and asparagine added to the medium during an inductive96-h dark period did not promote iron uptake and had no effecton flowering, but when added during the subsequent 120-h lightperiod, they promoted both iron uptake and flowering response.The increase in the endogenous iron level seems to favor floraldevelopment rather than induction of photoperiodic floweringof Lemna paucicostata 6746. The plasma membranes of archaea are abundant in macrocyclic tetraether lipids that contain a single or double long transmembrane hydrocarbon chains connecting the two glycerol backbones at both ends. In this study, a novel amacrocyclic bisphosphatidylcholine lipid bearing a single membrane-spanning octacosamethylene chain, 1,1’-O-octacosamethylene-2,2′-di-O-tetradecyl-bis-(sn-glycero)-3,3′-diphosphocholine (AC-(di-O-C14PC)2), was synthesized to elucidate effects of the interlayer cross-linkage on membrane properties based on comparison with its corresponding diether phosphatidylcholine, 1,2-di-O-tetradecyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DTPC), that forms bilayer membrane. Several physicochemical techniques demonstrated that while AC-(di-O-C14PC)2 monolayer, which adopts a particularly high-ordered structure in the gel phase, shows remarkably high thermotropic transition temperature compared to DTPC bilayer, the fluidity of both phospholipids above the transition temperature is comparable. Nonetheless, the fluorescent dye leakage from inside the AC-(di-O-C14PC)2 vesicles in the fluid phase is highly suppressed. The origin of the membrane properties characteristic of AC-(di-O-C14PC)2 monolayer is discussed in terms of the single long transmembrane hydrophobic linkage and the diffusional motion of the lipid molecules.  相似文献

The effects of mushroom fibers on serum cholesterol and hepatic low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor mRNA in rats were investigated. Rats were fed a cholesterol-free diet with 50 g/kg cellulose powder (CP), 50 g/kg maitake (Grifola frondosa) fiber (MAF), 50 g/kg shiitake (Lentinus edodes) fiber (SF), or 50 g/kg enokitake (Flammulina velutipes) fiber (EF) for 4 weeks. There were no significant differences in the body weight, food intake, liver weight, cecum weight, and cecum pH among the groups. Cecal acetic acid, butyric acid, and total short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations in the SF and EF groups were significantly higher than those in the other groups. The serum total cholesterol concentration in the CP group was significantly higher than that in the MAF and EF groups. The very LDL (VLDL) + intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL) + LDL-cholesterol concentration in the CP group was significantly higher than that in the MAF, SF, and EF groups, whereas the high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol concentration in the EF group was significantly lower than that in the other groups at the end of the 4-week feeding period. The hepatic LDL receptor mRNA level in the EF group was significantly higher than that in the CP group. The fecal cholesterol excretion in the MAF, SF, and EF groups was significantly higher than that in the CP group. The results of this study demonstrate that MAF and EF lowered the serum total cholesterol level by enhancement of fecal cholesterol excretion, and in particular, by enhancement of hepatic LDL receptor mRNA in EF group.  相似文献

The cooperative binding of monomeric ligands to a long lattice of a linear polymer with complete or partial steric hindrance is treated using a matrix method. Results and typical calculations of the model are represented. Non-saturated cooperative binding as well as two-step (biphasic) binding isotherms can be interpreted by the steric hindrance model. This is applicable to the analysis of the binding of surfactants to polymer. The usefulness and the limitation also are discussed.  相似文献

The origin of multi-exponential fluorescence decay property of tryptophan (Trp) in protein has been in controversy, and dielectric relaxation is thought to be one of the most plausible candidates of that origin. In this study, we studied melittin-calmodulin interaction on the concept of dielectric relaxation by spectrally and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. Trp residue in melittin demonstrated drastic change in its dielectric relaxation rate and scale by binding with calmodulin. Expected change of relaxation rate suggested that dielectric relaxation accounts for multi-exponential property of fluorescence decay. We also examined the time variation of radiative and non-radiative decay rates. That result demonstrated the distinct difference profiles of non-radiative decay rate of Trp in melittin and the complex.  相似文献

We performed in-situ ultraviolet resonance Raman (UVRR) spectroscopy of the larval cocoon silk of the hornet, Vespa simillima xanthoptera Cameron, and compared the result with that of the silkworm, Bombix mori. The UVRR spectrum of the hornet cocoon differed markedly from that of the B. mori cocoon: peaks attributable to tyrosine (Tyr) were observed strongly, and tryptophan (Trp) peaks weakly, in the spectrum of the B. mori cocoon, whereas peaks attributable to Trp exclusively appeared in the spectrum of the hornet cocoon.  相似文献

An increase in plasma ovalbumin concentrations after intragastric administration of ovalbumin was suppressed by concomitant freeze-dried kefir in BALB/c mice. Serum levels of ovalbumin-specific immunoglobulin G and proliferation of splenic mononuclear cells in mice immunized orally with ovalbumin were suppressed by feeding freeze-dried kefir. We propose that kefir reduces intestinal permeation of food antigen, which contributes to suppression of oral sensitization.  相似文献
