Calicotyle urolophi n. sp. is proposed for calicotylines found in the cloaca of three stingaree species, Urolophus cruciatus, U. bucculentus and U. paucimaculatus, collected off the southeastern coast of Tasmania. Variations in the soft body parts were observed between specimens taken from U. cruciatus and U. bucculentus but were not considered sufficient for separation into two species. C. urolophi is differentiated from other Calicotyle spp. found in the South Pacific by the configuration of the tubular male copulatory organ, the structure of the intestinal caeca and the arrangement of the vaginae. Amended diagnoses for the subfamily Calicotylinae and the genus Calicotyle are provided.  相似文献

Increases in the terrestrial levels of ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation (280 to 320 nm) due to diminished stratospheric ozone have prompted an investigation of the protective mechanisms that contribute to UV-B tolerance in plants. In response to UV-B stress, flowering plants produce a variety of UV-absorptive secondary products derived from phenylalanine. Arabidopsis mutants with defects in the synthesis of these compounds were tested for UV-B sensitivity. The transparent testa-4 (tt4) mutant, which has reduced flavonoids and normal levels of sinapate esters, is more sensitive to UV-B than the wild type when grown under high UV-B irradiance. The tt5 and tt6 mutants, which have reduced levels of UV-absorptive leaf flavonoids and the monocyclic sinapic acid ester phenolic compounds, are highly sensitive to the damaging effects of UV-B radiation. These results demonstrate that both flavonoids and other phenolic compounds play important roles in vivo in plant UV-B protection.  相似文献

During the early stages of germination and vegetative development,cotyledons of intact bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seedlingsshowed active ABA catabolism causing a low endogenous ABA content.At the end of the substrate mobilizing phase, when the cotyledonsbecame senescent, a drastic increase of the endogenous ABA contentlinked with a decrease of the ABA catabolic activity was observed.This indicates that a close connection exists between senescenceand endogenous ABA content and metabolism in bean cotyledons. Removal of the apical growth region induced in the cotyledonsactivation of the ABA catabolism and the endogenous ABA concentrationdecreased below the detection limit (0.1 ng/g fr wt) at theonset of the outgrowth of the axillary buds. This paper explores several data mining and time series analysis methods for predicting the magnitude of the largest seismic event in the next year based on the previously recorded seismic events in the same region. The methods are evaluated on a catalog of 9,042 earthquake events, which took place between 01/01/1983 and 31/12/2010 in the area of Israel and its neighboring countries. The data was obtained from the Geophysical Institute of Israel. Each earthquake record in the catalog is associated with one of 33 seismic regions. The data was cleaned by removing foreshocks and aftershocks. In our study, we have focused on ten most active regions, which account for more than 80% of the total number of earthquakes in the area. The goal is to predict whether the maximum earthquake magnitude in the following year will exceed the median of maximum yearly magnitudes in the same region. Since the analyzed catalog includes only 28 years of complete data, the last five annual records of each region (referring to the years 2006–2010) are kept for testing while using the previous annual records for training. The predictive features are based on the Gutenberg-Richter Ratio as well as on some new seismic indicators based on the moving averages of the number of earthquakes in each area. The new predictive features prove to be much more useful than the indicators traditionally used in the earthquake prediction literature. The most accurate result (AUC = 0.698) is reached by the Multi-Objective Info-Fuzzy Network (M-IFN) algorithm, which takes into account the association between two target variables: the number of earthquakes and the maximum earthquake magnitude during the same year.  相似文献
