Hop stunt viroid as the causal agent of cachexia disease has detected from citrus trees in different areas in Iran. Although cachexia has not been reported as a decline disease for citrus trees, it can impair crop quality and reduce plant yields. This study was undertaken to molecularly detect HSVd among different commercial citrus cultivars and determine genetic diversity of this viroid in Mazandaran province of Iran. Sampling was performed from symptomatic and symptomless citrus cultivars in Mazandaran province. HSVd specific primers were used for molecular detection. SSCP and sequencing were applied to assay HSVd genetic diversity. Results showed the detection of HSVd in all symptomatic Satsuma (25 out of 25), Clementine (25 out of 25), sweet lime (20 out of 20) and sweet orange cv. Valencia (7 out of 7), as well as, 31% (14 out of 22), 100% (12 out of 12) and 33% (5 out of 15) of page mandarin, lemon and grapefruit trees, respectively. 10 different HSVd genomes were identified by sequencing the SSCP profiles among which HSVd‐IR1 had the most frequency.  相似文献

A total of 690 herring Clupea harengus L. and 88 sprat Sprattus sprattus L. caught off the west coast of Sweden, in the North Sea and off the west and south coasts of the United Kingdom, were examined for gill parasites. The monogenean Pseudanthocotyloides heterocotyle (van Beneden, 1871) Euzet & Prost, 1969 was found in 38 (5.5%) herring and one (1.1%) sprat. The parasite was significantly (P>0.05) more common off the west coast of Sweden than elsewhere and most specimens (62.5%) were found on the pseudobranchs. Only the smaller herring were infected. P. heterocotyle is redescribed and its taxonomy discussed, together with the possibility of host and parasite misidentification in previous reports.  相似文献

Alpha(1)-aderenoceptor-mediated constriction of rabbit inferior vena cava (IVC) is signaled by asynchronous wavelike Ca(2+) oscillations in the in situ smooth muscle. We have shown previously that a putative nonselective cationic channel (NSCC) is required for these oscillations. In this report, we show that the application of 2-aminoethoxyphenyl borate (2-APB) to antagonize inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (InsP(3))-sensitive Ca(2+) release channels (IP(3)R channels) can prevent the initiation and abolish ongoing alpha(1)-aderenoceptor-mediated tonic constriction of the venous smooth muscle by inhibiting the generation of these intracellular Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)](i)) oscillations. The observed effects of 2-APB can only be attributed to its selective inhibition on the IP(3)R channels, not to its slight inhibition of the L-type voltage-gated Ca(2+) channel and the sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca(2+) ATPase. Furthermore, 2-APB had no effect on the ryanodine-sensitive Ca(2+) release channel and the store-operated channel (SOC) in the IVC. These results indicate that the putative NSCC involved in refilling the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) and maintaining the tonic contraction is most likely an SOC-type channel because it appears to be activated by IP(3)R-channel-mediated SR Ca(2+) release or store depletion. This is in accordance with its sensitivity to Ni(2+) and La(3+) (SOC blockers). More interestingly, RT-PCR analysis indicates that transient receptor potential (Trp1) mRNA is strongly expressed in the rabbit IVC. The Trp1 gene is known to encode a component of the store-operated NSCC. These new data suggest that the activation of both the IP(3)R channels and the SOC are required for PE-mediated [Ca(2+)](i) oscillations and constriction of the rabbit IVC.  相似文献

Background

Radiotherapy is one of the most important treatments of primary and metastatic brain tumors. Unfortunately, it can involve moderate to severe complications among which leukoencephalopathy is very frequent and implies cognitive deficits such as memory, attention and executive dysfunctions. However, the incidence of this complication is not well established and the risk factors and process are poorly understood. The main objective of the study is to improve knowledge on radio-induced leukoencephalopathy based on pluridisciplinar approaches combining cognitive, biologic, imagery and dosimetric investigations.

Method/Design

The EpiBrainRad study is a prospective cohort study including newly diagnosed high grade gliomas patients treated by radiotherapy and concomitant-adjuvant temozolomide chemotherapy. Patients are included between their surgery and first day of radio-chemotherapy, and the follow-up lasts for 3 years after treatment. Cognitive functioning assessments, specific blood biomarkers measures and magnetic resonance imagery are performed at different moment during the follow-up, and a specific dosimetric assessment of organs involved in the beam fields is performed. Firstly, leukoencephalopathy incidence rate will be estimated in this population. Secondly, correlations between cognitive impairments and dosimetry, biomarkers ranges and anomalies on imagery will be analyzed in order to better understand the onset and evolution of cognitive decrement associated with radiotherapy. Furthermore, a new cognitive test, quickly and easily performed, will be studied to determine its sensibility to detect leukoencephalopathy decrement.

Discussion

With an original multidisciplinary approach, the EpiBrainRad study aims to improve knowledge on radio-induced leukoencephalopathy in order to improve its early diagnosis and prevention. The main challenge is to preserve quality-of-life after cancer treatments which imply to study the incidence of radiation-induced complications and their associated risk factors.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) can enhance plant growth by alleviating soil stresses. Although previously investigated, some new interesting details are presented regarding the alleviating affects of Azospirillum sp. on wheat growth under drought stress in this research work. We hypothesized that the isolated strains of Azospirillum sp. may alleviate the adverse effects of drought stress on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) growth. Three different strains of Azospirillum lipoferum (B1, B2 and B3) were used to inoculate wheat seedlings under drought. During the flowering stage the seedlings were subjected to three drought levels with five different time longevity, including control. Pots were water stressed at 80% (S0), 50% (S1) and 25% (S2) of field capacity moisture in a 25 day-period. Soil and plant water properties including water potential and water content, along with their effects on bacterial inoculum and wheat growth, were completely monitored during the experiment. While stress intensity significantly affected bacterial population and wheat growth, stress longevity only affected wheat water potential and water content. Compared to uninoculated treatments strain B3 (fixing and producing the highest amounts of N and auxin, respectively, with P solubilizing and ACC-deaminase activities) increased wheat yield at S1 and S2 by 43 and 109%, respectively. However, strain B2 (producing siderophore) was the most resistant strain under drought stress. The results of this experiment may elucidate the more efficient strains of Azospirillum sp. for wheat inoculation under drought stress and the mechanisms by which they alleviate the stress.  相似文献

Fumonisin B1 (FB1) is the most abundant of the fumonisin mycotoxins, mainly produced in maize by F. verticillioides and F. proliferatum. A previous study on the FB1 contamination of maize harvested in Mazandaran and Isfahan Provinces of Iran in 1998 and 1999 demonstrated contamination in both provinces. This present study was undertaken to further investigate the variation in levels of contamination and to estimate possible levels of human exposure to fumonisins in Iran. The mean level of FB1 in 49 visually healthy maize samples collected from Mazandaran Province during 2000 was 6.14 mg/kg, which is higher than that found during 1998 and 1999 (2.27 and 3.18 mg/kg, respectively). Although these levels are higher than the Iranian legislative limits for fumonisins in maize intended for humans, the relatively low estimated consumption of maize in Iran (3.3 g/person/day) implies that average exposures (0.011 and 0.215 μg/kg body weight/day in Isfahan and Mazandaran, respectively) are within the provisional maximum tolerable daily intake of 2 μg/kg body weight/day set by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives. Nevertheless, certain sections of the population who may consume higher amounts of maize or who may replace all or some of their consumption of other cereals with maize, could well exceed this limit.  相似文献

The retina is the neural portion and light-sensitive layer of the eye, which has been observed in most of the vertebrates. The retina is composed of light-sensitive cells that absorb light and convert it into neural signals. These signals are sent to the brain for visual recognition. It has been shown that many pathogenesis conditions, including inflammation, angiogenesis, oxidative stress, and imbalanced histone modifications in the retina are associated with initiation and progression of retinal diseases (ie, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration). Currently available treatments include laser surgery, freezing, stem-cell therapy, shrinking abnormal blood vessels. It has some limitations, such as invasive methods, high costs, and many side effects. Hence, finding a new therapeutic platform for stopping or slowing of the disease progression is required. Curcumin is a natural product, which is associated with a wide range of properties, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiangiogenic, and antitumor activates. It exerts therapeutic effects via activation/inhibition cellular and molecular targets involved in various diseases, such as retinal diseases. Increasing evidence revealed that curcumin can be used as a therapeutic option in the treatment of different retinal diseases. Here, we summarized various clinical and preclinical studies that used curcumin as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of retinal disorders.  相似文献

Phyllody disease is a threat to sesame production in Kerman province, southeastern Iran. RFLP analysis of PCR products of phytoplasma-specific 16S rRNA gene (1.8 kb) and phylogenetic analyses of 16S-23S rDNA spacer region (SR) sequence indicated that the predominant agent associated with sesame phyllody in Kerman province is a phytoplasma with 100% similarity with eggplant big bud, and peanut witches’-broom phytoplasmas, members of “Candidatus Phytoplasma aurantifolia” from Iran and China, respectively. Among the samples tested, only one strain (SPhSr1), had a unique RFLP profile and its SR was 100% similar in nucleotide sequence with the phytoplasma carried by Orosius albicinctus and Helianthus annus witches’-broom phytoplasma from Iran, members of “Ca. Phytoplasma trifolii”. Virtual RFLP patterns of SPhJ2 (representative of the predominant PCR-RFLP profiles) SR sequence were identical to those of peanut witches’-broom phytoplasma (16SrII-A, JX871467). However, SPhSr1 SR sequence patterns resemble (99.7%) those of vinca virescence phytoplasma (16SrVI-A, AY500817).  相似文献
