Sanosil-25, a disinfectant containing 48% hydrogen peroxide and silver salts as stabilising agents, inhibited the mycelial growth of the two main decays causing fungi of melons, Alternaria alternata and Fusarium solani in vitro at concentrations between 5000 and 10 000 μl litre-1. However, in in vivo experiments, Sanosil-25 markedly decreased decay at a concentration of 5000 μl litre-1 when incorporated into a wax treatment and produced no phytotoxic effect. This treatment may provide an alternative to imazalil which, although more effective, gives problems with residue levels. A concentration of 10 000 μl litre-1 proved phytotoxic. 相似文献

Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) labeled in its carboxyl group was metabolized by tobacco leaf discs (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Xanthi) into three metabolites, two of which were preliminarily characterized as a peptide and an ester-conjugated IAA. Reapplication of each of the three metabolites (at 10 M) resulted in a marked stimulation of ethylene production and decarboxylation by the leaf discs. Similarly, these three IAA metab olites could induce elongation of wheat coleoptile segments, which was accompanied by decarboxylation. Both the exogenously supplied esteric and peptidic IAA conjugates were converted by the leaf discs into the same metabolites as free IAA. (1-14C)IAA, applied to an isolated epidermis tissue, was completely metabolized to the esteric and peptidic IAA conjugates. This epidermis tissue showed much higher ethylene production rates and lower decarboxylation rates than did the whole leaf disc.The results suggest that the participation of IAA conjugates in the regulation of various physiological processes depends on the release of free IAA, which is obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of the conjugates in the tissue. The advancement of leaf senescence is accompanied by a reduction in cellular protein content together with the induction of specific proteins which are probably involved in the process. In the present study, with parsley, we followed the changes in the levels of proteins functionally and immunogenically related to pathogenesis‐related proteins during both senescence of detached leaves and natural senescence of attached leaves. Both chitinase activity and protein level were found to be induced during senescence, as was the level of two other proteins immunologically related to β‐1,3‐glucanase and P4 pathogenesis‐related proteins of citrus and tomato, respectively. A high correlation between the advancement of senescence and the induction of these proteins was demonstrated. Treatments with CO2 or gibberellic acid, which retard senescence, reduced both chitinase activity and the level of the pathogenesis‐related proteins, whereas enhancement of senescence with ethylene induced them further. The induction of pathogenesis‐related proteins during senescence suggests that these proteins may have a primary role in this process. 相似文献

The treatment of choice for early mobilization of hip fracture is surgery, which traditionally employs side plates and screws or intramedullary nails. We examined the biomechanical properties of a new proximal femoral nail system. The new expandable Fixion proximal femur nailing (PFN) system, made of stainless-steel alloy, consists of a nail, a peg and an anti-rotation pin. Upon positioning, the nail and peg are expanded to their maximal diameter. The current biomechanical study investigated: nail bending strength and stiffness, fatigue properties and hip peg strength. A cadaveric study that determined the effect of the expandable peg on the femoral head included subsidence testing, pull and torsion testing and intra-osseous pressure (IOP) measurements before and after expansion. Biomechanical properties of the new nail met ASTM F384 guideline requirements. The cadaver study yielded equivalent results for the pullout test between the peg and the hip screw, but found the peg superior in the torsion strength test. IOP during peg insertion and expansion was substantially lower than the threshold pressure that causes avascular necrosis. The biomechanical tests found the new system to be safe and able to provide good abutment of the nail to the bone. We conclude that the Fixion PFN system proved to be an effective proximal femur fracture fixation device. 相似文献

Effect of wounding on ethylene biosynthesis and senescence of detached spinach leaves 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Parameters of senescence and ethylene biosynthesis pathway were screened simultaneously in detached spinach leaves and leaf discs. Senescence was enhanced by application of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) and was retarded by amino-ethoxyvinylglycine (AVG). Evidence is presented showing that the bursts of both wound- and climacteric-like ethylene promoted senescence of detached leaves and leaf discs. This ethylene-enhanced leaf senescence was dependent on: (a) ethylene production rates in the tissue; (b) the degree of wounding. Wounding resulted in elevated levels of 1-(malonylamino)cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (MACC), which declined in advanced stages of senescence. The results suggest that wounding might be regarded as one of the primary events in the induction of the senescence syndrome in detached leaves and leaf discs, while ethylene is implicated as a regulator of the rate of the process. 相似文献

Objectives
To assess the safety and acceptance of the PrePex device for medical male circumcision (MMC) in rural Uganda.Methods
In an observational study, HIV-uninfected, uncircumcised men aged 18 and older who requested elective MMC were informed about the PrePex and dorsal slit methods and offered a free choice of their preferred procedure. 100 men received PrePex to assess preliminary safety (aim 1). An additional 329 men, 250 chose PrePex and 79 chose Dorsal slit, were enrolled following approval by the Safety Monitoring Committee (aim 2). Men were followed up at 7 days to assess adverse events (AEs) and to remove the PrePex device. Wound healing was assessed at 4 weeks, with subsequent weekly follow up until completed healing.Results
The PrePex device was contraindicated in 5.7% of men due to a tight prepuce or phimosis/adhesions. Among 429 enrolled men 350 (82.0%) got the PrePex device and 79 (18.0%) the dorsal slit procedure. 250 of 329 men (76.0%) who were invited to choose between the 2 procedures chose Prepex. There were 9 AEs (2.6%) with the PrePex, of which 5 (1.4%) were severe complications, 4 due to patient self-removal of the device leading to edema and urinary obstruction requiring emergency surgical circumcision, and one due to wound dehiscence following device removal. 71.8% of men reported an unpleasant odor prior to PrePex removal. Cumulative rates of completed wound healing with the PrePex were 56.7% at week 4, 84.8% week 5, 97.6% week 6 and 98.6% week 7, compared to 98.7% at week 4 with dorsal slit (p<0.0001).Conclusion
The PrePex device was well accepted, but healing was slower than with dorsal slit surgery. Severe complications, primarily following PrePex self-removal, required rapid access to emergency surgical facilities. The need to return for removal and delayed healing may increase Program cost and client burden. 相似文献9.

Background
The objective of the study was to compare rates of adverse events (AEs) related to male circumcision (MC) in HIV-positive and HIV-negative men in order to provide guidance for MC programs that may provide services to HIV-infected and uninfected men.Methods and Findings
A total of 2,326 HIV-negative and 420 HIV-positive men (World Health Organization [WHO] stage I or II and CD4 counts > 350 cells/mm3) were circumcised in two separate but procedurally identical trials of MC for HIV and/or sexually transmitted infection prevention in rural Rakai, Uganda. Participants were followed at 1–2 d and 5–9 d, and at 4–6 wk, to assess surgery-related AEs, wound healing, and resumption of intercourse. AE risks and wound healing were compared in HIV-positive and HIV-negative men. Adjusted odds ratios (AdjORs) were estimated by multiple logistic regression, adjusting for baseline characteristics and postoperative resumption of sex. At enrollment, HIV-positive men were older, more likely to be married, reported more sexual partners, less condom use, and higher rates of sexually transmitted disease symptoms than HIV-negative men. Risks of moderate or severe AEs were 3.1/100 and 3.5/100 in HIV-positive and HIV-negative participants, respectively (AdjOR 0.91, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.47–1.74). Infections were the most common AEs (2.6/100 in HIV-positive versus 3.0/100 in HIV-negative men). Risks of other complications were similar in the two groups. The proportion with completed healing by 6 wk postsurgery was 92.7% in HIV-positive men and 95.8% in HIV-negative men (p = 0.007). AEs were more common in men who resumed intercourse before wound healing compared to those who waited (AdjOR 1.56, 95% CI 1.05–2.33).Conclusions
Overall, the safety of MC was comparable in asymptomatic HIV-positive and HIV-negative men, although healing was somewhat slower among the HIV infected. Summary
PhoS64 is a mutation in the Phosphate Specific Transport (PST) region on the E. coli chromosome which lacks the periplasmic phosphate binding protein. In contrast to other phoS mutations (which have the same phenotype) it complements the mutations in phoT and pstB. A detailed genetic map of the PST region constructed by three point transductional crosses has revealed that phoS64 is located distally from other phoS mutations. The genetic order obtained was phoS64-phoU35-pstB401-phoT-phoS-ilvC. The data indicate that phoS64 belongs to a different complementation unit in the PST region not known hitherto.
