ABO, Rh and MN blood groups were studied among the people of Ahwaz, Khuzistan, Iran. The people of Ahwaz are characterized by high frequencies of the blood groups 0 (41.16%), Rh-positive (90.0%) and MN (48.13%). These frequencies are significantly different from those obtained in other Iranian populations, which is caused by the co-operation of various factors. 相似文献

Black microcolonial fungi (MCF) and black yeasts are among the most stress-resistant eukaryotic organisms known on Earth. They mainly inhabit bare rock surfaces in hot and cold deserts of all regions of the Earth, but some of them have a close phylogenetic relation to human pathogenic black fungi which makes them important model organisms also with respect to clinical mycology. The environment of those fungi is especially characterized by extreme changes from humidity to long periods of desiccation and extreme temperature differences. A key to the understanding of MCF ecology is the question about metabolic activity versus dormancy in the natural environments. In this study, the time lag from the desiccated state to rehydration and full metabolic activity and growth was measured and defined in accordance with simulated environmental conditions. The ability to survive after desiccation and the speed of rehydration as well as changes of the whole cell protein pattern are demonstrated. Whereas both mesophilic strains—Exophiala jeanselmei and Knufia perforans (=Coniosporium perforans)—show a clear reaction toward desiccation by production of small proteins, Cryomyces antarcticus—the extremotolerant MCF—does not show any response to desiccation but seems just to down-regulate its metabolism. Data on intracellular sugar suggest that both trehalose and mannitol might play a cell protective role in those fungi. 相似文献

The common pistachio psylla, Agonoscena pistaciae (Hemiptera: Aphalaridae) is one of the most detrimental pests to pistachio trees. Nowadays various pesticides are used to control the common pistachio psylla, but extensive pesticide spraying against this pest over a period of several years has overpowered its natural enemies. The plant’s byproducts come as an alternative ecologically more compatible in substitution to the synthetic insecticides. This work aims to evaluate the insecticidal potential of herbal extracts of fruit peels of Citrus sinensis and Citrus reticulata, seeds of C. sinensis and Rubia tinctorum, and leaves of Lawsonia inermis against common pistachio psylla. Five concentration 40, 47, 56, 67 and 80 µl/ml, of these plant extracts were sprayed on the fifth instar nymphs of common pistachio psylla by Potter Spray Tower under laboratory conditions (26?±?2?°C, 60–70% RH and a photoperiod of 16L: 8D h). Results showed significant differences among the treatments of the plant extracts and between the concentrations. The LC50 values of C. sinensis peels, C. reticulata peels, C. sinensis seeds, R. tinctorum seeds and L. inermis leaves were 62.04, 38.84, 43.60, 59.01 and 33.99 µl/ml, respectively. Also, all extracts showed the greatest mortality effect in 80 µl/ml concentration. According to these results, these plant extracts may use as herbal pesticides chemical control programme of common pistachio psylla. 相似文献

The immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) have been considered as an appropriate candidate for treatment of autoimmune diseases. Previous studies have revealed that treatment with BM-MSCs may modulate immune responses and alleviate the symptoms in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mice, an animal model of multiple sclerosis. Therefore, the present study was designed to examine immunomodulatory effects of BM-MSCs in the treatment of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) 35-55-induced EAE in C57BL/6 mice. MSCs were obtained from the bone marrow of C57BL mice, cultured with DMEM/F12, and characterized with flow cytometry for the presence of cell surface markers for BM-MSCs. Following three passages, BM-MSCs were injected intraperitoneally into EAE mice alone or in combination with rapamycin. Immunological and histopathological effects of BM-MSCs and addition of rapamycin to BM-MSCs were evaluated. The results demonstrated that adding rapamycin to BM-MSCs transplantation in EAE mice significantly reduced inflammation infiltration and demyelination, enhanced the immunomodulatory functions, and inhibited progress of neurological impairments compared to BM-MSC transplantation and control groups. The immunological effects of rapamycin and BM-MSC treatments were associated with the inhibition of the Ag-specific lymphocyte proliferation, CD8+ cytolytic activity, and the Th1-type cytokine (gamma-interferon (IFN-γ)) and the increase of Th-2 cytokine (interleukin-4 (IL-4) and IL-10) production. Addition of rapamycin to BM-MSCs was able to ameliorate neurological deficits and provide neuroprotective effects in EAE. This suggests the potential of rapamycin and BM-MSC combined therapy to play neuroprotective roles in the treatment of neuroinflammatory disorders. 相似文献

Background and Objectives
Desmoplastic melanoma is a unique subtype of melanoma which typically affects older patients who often have comorbidities that can adversely affect survival. We sought to identify melanoma-specific factors influencing survival in patients with desmoplastic melanoma. Methods
Retrospective review from 1993 to 2011 identified 316 patients with primary desmoplastic melanoma. Clinicopathologic characteristics were correlated with nodal status and outcome. Results
Fifty-five patients (17.4%) had nodal disease: 33 had a positive sentinel lymph node biopsy and 22 developed nodal recurrences (no sentinel lymph node biopsy or false-negative sentinel lymph node biopsy). Nodal disease occurred more often in younger patients and in cases with mixed compared with pure histology (26.7% vs. 14.6%); both of these variables significantly predicted nodal status on multivariable analysis (p<0.05). After a median follow-up of 5.3 years, recurrence developed in 87 patients (27.5%), and 111 deaths occurred. The cause of death was known in 79 cases, with 47 deaths (59.5%) being melanoma-related. On multivariable analysis, Breslow thickness, mitotic rate ≥1/mm2 and nodal status significantly predicted melanoma-specific survival (p<0.05).Conclusions
Nodal status predicts melanoma-specific survival in patients with desmoplastic melanoma. However, since patients with desmoplastic melanoma represent an older population, and a considerable proportion of deaths are not melanoma-related (40.5%), comorbidities should be carefully considered in making staging and treatment decisions in this population. 相似文献10.

? Premise of the study: Intron Targeting (IT) primers were developed for potato using expressed sequence tags (EST) and NCBI database records to study genetic diversity. ? Methods and Results: Twenty-nine polymorphic intron targeting (IT) markers were generated and characterized from 30 samples of potato and 22 samples of Solanum nigrum to detect polymorphism. The number of alleles (A) per locus ranged from 2 to 7 in the analyzed populations, and the observed heterozygosity (H(O)) and expected heterozygosity (H(E)) from 0 to 0.833 and 0.750, respectively. All of the primers also amplified in the related species S. nigrum. ? Conclusions: The developed markers will provide valuable tools for genetic diversity analysis, genetic mapping, and marker-assisted breeding of potato and related Solanum species. 相似文献
