The levels of iron, zinc, and copper in the tissues of the pregnant rat, on d 12, 19, and 21 after impregnation have been determined and compared with controls. Iron levels decreased considerably in late pregnancy as a result of increased fetal requirements, thus diminishing iron stores in rat tissues, but maintaining the circulating plasma levels. Copper levels increased slightly at midpregnancy, but returned to control levels at the end of gestation. Zinc stores also increased slightly during early pregnancy, yet were decreased at the end of pregnancy, but to a lesser extent than those of iron. The data are explained on the basis of equilibrium between assimilation and fetal needs for copper, a slightly higher demand for zinc with altered equilibrium, and a much altered equilibrium for iron that provokes a dwindling of iron maternal reserves that is not compensated by dietary iron.  相似文献

The regrowth of 27 temperature-sensitive division mutants of Streptococcus faecium ATCC 9790 was examined after various periods of incubation at the nonpermissive temperature. Several of the mutants blocked at various stages of septum formation or of daughter-cell separation divided in a partially or completely synchronous way after a short incubation at the nonpermissive temperature. All four lytic mutants blocked early in the cell division cycle divided at a normal rate after a brief lag.  相似文献

The metabolic responses induced by the ingestion of a beverage containing glucose (G), fructose (F) or placebo (W) 30 min before exercise of high intensity and intermediate duration have been investigated; in these conditions the energy processes are mostly dependent on aerobic reactions. A group of 11 male recreational sportsmen ran on a treadmill, at an intensity corresponding to 82% of peak oxygen consumption, until exhaustion on three different occasions (after ingestion of a beverage containing 75 g of G, 75 g of F or W). Plasma glucose, insulin, and lactic acid concentrations were determined just prior to the ingestion of the beverages, 30 min afterwards and 10 and 30 min after completion of the exercise. The mean endurance time was 644 (SD 261) s after the ingestion of G, 611 (SD 227) s after the ingestion of F and 584 (SD 189) s after the ingestion of the W (P < 0.05 between G and W). No differences in the oxygen uptake, respiratory quotient or lactate concentrations between the three trials were observed. Both plasma glucose and insulin concentrations determined in samples obtained immediately before the onset of exercise were higher when G was ingested than when F (P < 0.05 andP < 0.05, respectively) or W (P < 0.001 and P < 0.005, respectively) were ingested. These findings would suggest that the ingestion of G prior to an effort of intermediate duration may improve physical performance.  相似文献

The gametophytic self-incompatibility (GSI) system in Rosaceae has been proposed to be controlled by two genes located in the S-locusan S-RNase and a recently described pollen expressed S-haplotype specific F-box gene (SFB). However, in apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) these genes had not been identified yet. We have sequenced 21kb in total of the S-locus region in 3 different apricot S-haplotypes. These fragments contain genes homologous to the S-RNase and F-box genes found in other Prunusspecies, preserving their basic gene structure features and defined amino acid domains. The physical distance between the F-boxand the S-RNase genes was determined exactly in the S 2-haplotype (2.9kb) and inferred approximately in the S 1-haplotype (< 49kb) confirming that these genes are linked. Sequence analysis of the 5 flanking regions indicates the presence of a conserved region upstream of the putative TATA box in the S-RNase gene. The three identified S-RNase alleles (S 1, S 2 and S 4) had a high allelic sequence diversity (75.3 amino acid identity), and the apricot F-box allelic variants (SFB1, SFB2 and SFB4) were also highly haplotype-specific (79.4 amino acid identity). Organ specific-expression was also studied, revealing that S 1- and S 2-RNases are expressed in style tissues, but not in pollen or leaves. In contrast, SFB 1 and SFB 2 are only expressed in pollen, but not in styles or leaves. Taken together, these results support these genes as candidates for the pistil and pollen S-determinants of GSI in apricot.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the bronchus is a rare neoplasm that can be recognized on histology as well as cytology by the presence of three characteristic cell types: mucus secreting, epidermoid and intermediate. We encountered two cases displaying unusual cytologic features, including clear intranuclear inclusions. CASES: Two females, aged 33 and 39, presented with an intrabronchial tumor and pulmonary parenchymatous mass, respectively. Fine needle aspiration of both tumors showed similar cytologic features, with a dominant population of cells with bland nuclei and wide cytoplasm, and frequent intranuclear inclusions. A minor component of mucus-secreting cells was also recognized. Histologically, both tumors corresponded to the clear cell variant of mucoepidermoid carcinoma. CONCLUSION: The cytologic picture in our cases has not been described previously in fine needle aspirates of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, in neither the bronchus nor salivary gland. The differential diagnosis of a monotonous population of epithelial cells with intranuclear inclusions involves bronchioloalveolar carcinoma, but the absence of the characteristic sheet pattern, as well as the clinical and image findings, excludes this possibility. The lack of atypia and intrabronchial location limits the scope to carcinoid and salivary gland-type tumors of the bronchus. Since we were aware of the possibility of unusual cytologic presentations of mucoepidermoid carcinomas, search for different cellular populations suggested the precise diagnosis.  相似文献

Genomic DNA sequences sharing homology with the NBS-LRR (nucleotide binding site-leucine-rich repeat) resistance genes were isolated and cloned from apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) using a PCR approach with degenerate primers designed from conserved regions of the NBS domain. Restriction digestion and sequence analyses of the amplified fragments led to the identification of 43 unique amino acid sequences grouped into six families of resistance gene analogs (RGAs). All of the RGAs identified belong to the Toll-Interleukin receptor (TIR) group of the plant disease resistance genes (R-genes). RGA-specific primers based on non-conserved regions of the NBS domain were developed from the consensus sequences of each RGA family. These primers were used to develop amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP)-RGA markers by means of an AFLP-modified procedure where one standard primer is substituted by an RGA-specific primer. Using this method, 27 polymorphic markers, six of which shared homology with the TIR class of the NBS-LRR R-genes, were obtained from 17 different primer combinations. Of these 27 markers, 16 mapped in an apricot genetic map previously constructed from the self-pollination of the cultivar Lito. The development of AFLP-RGA markers may prove to be useful for marker-assisted selection and map-based cloning of R-genes in apricot.  相似文献
